oh yeah, I'll ship anywhere, although i'll need to check up on any changes wrt UK ship rules etc, to figure out what the best deal of the minute is. just to get this out of the way right now, I can't dodge the customs declaration, way too risky now that I am in the process of building a real deal online store (well reverb store linked to my website unless i get a better idea).

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 15:51 (nine years ago) link

Aye, no worries, most online retailers don't do 'gift' declarations these days in any case. A couple of months to think about what else I might fancy then.

Can anyone recommend me a good wah for around $100? My Cry Baby that I've had for a decade or so is starting to get noisy.

yeah andy is a great guy, this whole thing is super sad and weird. hoping for the best.

Judging by a fb post from zack, looks like the worst scenario had happened.

Anyone? Or is the CryBaby the standard here? The only other models I can find are represented by guitarist I hate.

Heez, Thursday, 4 September 2014 21:09 (nine years ago) link

Honestly, there are some great wahs out there, but they're going to be way more than $100. In that range, the crybaby is going to be the way to go, unless you can find a ibanez wd7 and can get over the fact that it looks awful but sounds great.

can you still find vox 848s for 100ish used? that used to be my go-to but I've been wah-less for like 6 years now...

when I plug in my Boss RC-20XL the 'loop quantize', 'loop phrase', 'write' and 'manual' lights light up, and it doesn't do anything else. No amount of pressing buttons makes a difference, and there's no sound passing through it. Tried different power supplies and batteries, all the same. What's wrong with it? Is it knackered? Will I have to pay for repairs?

Merdeyeux, Wednesday, 17 September 2014 18:52 (nine years ago) link

I skipped straight to the waveform portion and was "like, damn"

two weeks pass...

I have the worst ebay habit ever. I'll be getting drunk at some point over the weekend and looking at pedals on ebay. I'll see some pedal that is scheduled to end that night and is currently going for a low price. So I put in a higher bid, telling myself that I'm just doing it to bid the price up for the seller and someone will probably come along at the last minute and snipe me. And then I wake up in the morning the proud purchaser of a Boss DD-7!

I've bought three pedals this way in 2014.

next time the urge arises, channel that energy into buying a fine pedal from your good friend jjjusten

just got the dr. scientist Bitquest in. like everything that dude does, it's one of the coolest pedals in the shop. take all the effects that you just maybe might not want to devote pedal borad space to, throw them in a single tall mxr sized enclosure, and tadah.

Got it, pondering possibilities. Out of curiosity, and since I won't be back in the shop until tomorrow, have you ever looked at the Dr. Scientist BitQuest, or the Devi Ever Bit Mangler?

Ass Tchotchke! (jjjusten), Thursday, 23 October 2014 16:30 (nine years ago) link

Not really in the market for anything fuzz-distortion-y at the moment, already running with a WMD Geiger Counter which gives me more choices than I could wish for in that area.

I'm thinking of something that maybe does a bit octaving and modulation, maybe like the Arpanoid or the Rainbow Machine? Maybe the Ravish Sitar could fit the bill? You see where I'm coming from?

the bowels are not what they seem (aldo), Thursday, 23 October 2014 18:09 (nine years ago) link

Maybe something also semi-random in the control, like an optic sensor (like Devi used to fit in a couple of pedals)? Ability to tweak settings during play also v desirable.

I guess this is a good enough place to ask as any, but my Boss DS distortion pedal has as far as I can remember made the overall sound of my guitar quieter when I switch it on. Always thought it was a weird inherent compression thing and it was supposed to do this, but a sound engineer took a look and said this was definitely not supposed to happen. Anyone know what could be causing this?? Should I look into getting it repaired? I do run it after a compressor pedal, but this shouldn't be happening all the same, right?

Shepard Toney Album (dog latin), Friday, 24 October 2014 14:59 (nine years ago) link

It appears to be a common issue. Is it the case for a variety of guitar pick-ups?

$0.00 Butter sauce only. No marinara. (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 24 October 2014 15:25 (nine years ago) link

How is the volume (and master volume?) of your amp set? If there's little/no headroom, turning on the distortion might result in a volume drop; that is, the inherent compression thing might be in your amp rather than the pedal.

The same thing happened to me using a Yardbox fuzz with my Boogie MkIV; I don't remember exactly how the amp was configured (and it has like 4000 knobs and switches), but adjusting it for more headroom fixed the problem.

Was checking out H9 demo videos when I ran across this beast: The Hoxton OWL http://hoxtonowl.com

I'm digging this current wave of open-source sound-wibbling. The patch library (and demo videos) are damn impressive. I can't fund $400 on another sound-masher and I certainly can't take on another new programming language when I'm already dealing with three. I hope someone in these parts gets some face time with one.

Why do pedal manufacturers think it's a good idea to attach big rubber feet to the bottoms of them? trying to attach these to a pedal board is a ballache. Should be an easier way to remove them than having to peel them off then use white spirit to get the tape on.
