There was some additional work done to that shot after it was taken, but I appreciated the ingenuity of getting the handshake to work by hitting the j/o action.

these are cool:

Cash rewards are no longer reduced by 50% on replay of a Contact Mission. Players will now receive the full reward for completing a Mission every time.
Players now receive more Cash for playing Contact Missions in groups:

Two players - +10% Cash
Three players - +20% Cash
Four players - +30% Cash

Cash and RP for Contact Missions have been rebalanced. This is to ensure that all Contact Missions pay out a fair reward in relation to the mission difficulty and amount of time taken. The potential cash payouts have increased significantly overall, although some specific missions have been reduced as a result of the rebalance.

goole, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 19:45 (nine years ago) link

this is lol

Both the Driver and Passenger are now able to see direction arrows in Rally Races.

goole, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 19:47 (nine years ago) link

Wait so what is the point of them then.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 20:07 (nine years ago) link

That's just racing with a passenger then.

Unless the passenger wants to be all "decrease speed at this rock, hit the brake by the bush, TURN!"

• Players who downgrade to smaller garages will now be able to request vehicles stored in previous garages from the Mechanic.

So basically I can live where I want now. That's kinda cool. I miss the smelly ol' two-car apartment and wouldn't mind a place in Sandy Shores.

• Players in Tanks will now show as such with a specific Tank icon on the Minimap.

Looking forward to seeing the map look like a game of Combat.

• Fixed an issue where it was possible to destroy a vehicle containing 4 players, and only kill the driver.

I wish I could've seen this. Did the other three jump out of the fire and run away?

• Fixed an issue where spectating players would sometimes appear in free mode at the North-East corner of the map far away from everyone else, after a job.

Lighthouse glitch?

I haven't been on in a few weeks. Just got bored and then started reading about mods raping players onscreen and spawning factory equipment in player garages. Might check out the flight outfit this weekend, but otherwise,

man i really don't care about this

Flight School is one of my favorite things in the game for some reason, so I'm looking forward to this.

I still have bad flashbacks of James Woods admonishing my liftoff technique from GTA:SA.

I think I only tried to get into the flight school once? And got fucking housed by the cops for attempting to infiltrate the airport? I am an idiot.

enjoyed several attempts at the air force zero mission, which seems lots of fun whether you're the target, the attacker or the defender. i'm not good at dogfighting, but felt i was getting better by the end of it.

come to think tho you might have to send along a youtube of the real thing so they know what the fuck it is

I was originally thinking, "Wonder if you still spawn standing up inside a car out by the lighthouse after a RR mission? That way I can get a close-up of the radio to switch stations – aw hell with it, I know what I can get by with..."

Also did Season 2 Gary Sandy and Gordon Jump shots ("Jump shots", har), but also wanted to the closing credits to be a surprise.

How did you approach that? Did you have a shot list?

polyphonic, Wednesday, 10 September 2014 18:44 (nine years ago) link

Only a dozen or so edits in the intro. I just wrote it out like

:00 - :01 radio knobs
:01 - :04 looking west toward overpass

etc. I just made up the cast parts at the end.

Was kinda cool to figure out how they edited those closing credits back in the day - just tack on the guest stars to the usual cast roll. They just had that static shot of the skyline to always run underneath it, so they never had to worry about coming out of the cast shots into an awkward cut. The video canvas of 70s end credits.

Thanks everyone!

It was weird, turned it on, downloaded the new update, joined an event to get the free mask and as soon as the LTS started, everything went herky-jerky and it turned itself off. I turned it back on, got as far as scrolling back to the CD icon when it went beep-beep-beep and turned itself off again. At this point, the little red light started blinking.

So I'm not quite at the Yellow Light of Death, but I'm close. Everything points to a $150 repair bill if I want to keep going with this.

Truth be told, besides that WKRP thing up there, I haven't really even been playing much lately, since August or so. I don't know how I lost interest so fast. It is weird.

Glad I didn't buy those cheap GTA:IV packs. I was very tempted since I don't have any of those on PS3.

pplains, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 15:24 (nine years ago) link

You can probably cop a used PS3 for under $150 by now?

, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 15:28 (nine years ago) link

I mean, that's what I was thinking.

Did figure out how to take the hard drive out. That felt pretty powerful. Not sure if there's any use in that though.

pplains, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 15:35 (nine years ago) link

Can you just swap it into a new (used) unit? Same hardware so I don't see why not

calstars, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 15:37 (nine years ago) link

The LTS update looked fun - for some reason I love the idea of a Team Deathmatch where you don't respawn, as it increases the tension and jeopardy, and indeed think it would be great if there were a racing option where, if you wrecked your car, that was it and you'd be fucked for the rest of the race (I love the idea of absolute wrecks struggling to complete the final lap). But I tried to take part in the Event over the weekend but kept getting shut-out. They always get madd oversubscribed for these events, the servers don't seem to be able to take it.

You've been yelped (stevie), Tuesday, 7 October 2014 15:39 (nine years ago) link

I played the Capture The Flag match over July 4 where everyone fought with fireworks bazookas at the Coliseum. I hated it.

I think I've discovered that I'm the biggest pansy with the online experience since I really have enjoyed the "working together" concept and the challenges that arise with that rather than the "kill everyone you see" methods of game playing (though I have enjoyed those too, at times.)

pplains, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 15:54 (nine years ago) link

i much prefer working with people than pwning them too, mostly because i lack the skills to pwn.

the one LTS I managed to get running involved airplanes, and was hell fun, but then it devolved to one guy who'd never got in a plane hiding out in a hanger, and the opposition flying around outside, trying to figure out where he was. Cool tactic, bro, but not much fun to watch after I'd been killed, and it lasted for aaaaaages, and we still ended up losing that round (and then the game hung after that, thanks to the servers getting borked).

You've been yelped (stevie), Tuesday, 7 October 2014 16:02 (nine years ago) link

ah, GTAO

goole, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 16:07 (nine years ago) link

I think it went downhill for me after I stopped playing Survivals.

Used to love Survivals. Even thought it was cool watching other players shoot the bad guys quite literally over my dead body. Before I got ranked, it was the only time I'd get to play with something like the howtizer thing (The mini gun?) And the payouts of $20K were more than the others.

But then I became rich. And then I got all the weapons. And then spending ten minutes or more shooting everything I see for $20K didn't seem all that worth it. Why should I waste my time hiding in a dumpster in a junkyard somewhere when I could be doing wheelies off of hilltops?

And somewhere after that, it was "why should I waste my time doing wheelies off of hilltops when my family is downstairs and more importantly, I really need to finish this season of The Wire?"

Swear to God I'm suspicious about this downloading the new update and the PS3 blitzing out.

pplains, Tuesday, 7 October 2014 16:12 (nine years ago) link

really enjoyed that, thanks

pplains, Tuesday, 4 November 2014 20:14 (nine years ago) link

I wouldn't want to spend the majority of the game in first person (obviously, since so much of the pleasure in the game is in observing your character in the environment), I can see where it'd come in real handy here and there. I always find the shooting isn't quite precise enough when you're driving, for example (to shoot drivers, shoot out tires, hit just the right spot with the sticky bomb so you can detonate it next to the guy pursuing you).

antexit, Tuesday, 4 November 2014 20:23 (nine years ago) link

I think it would be great driving, as I believe gta always needed a proper dashboard camera. Considering it's basis lies in being a driving game, it's pretty criminal it doesn't have one already. I guess with all the different vehicles it's perhaps a lot to ask on smaller systems.

first person view on foot, could be useful in combat situations I guess.

It's just not gta though is it. Slowly this game is gradually becoming all other modern games. bah.
