Figures that they would reach out to a junk newspaper considering how many others won't even use the team's name in print anymore.

"You know, it’s sort of fun to talk about the name of our football team, because it gets some attention for some of the people that write it, that need clicks, or what have you. But reality is, no one ever talks about what’s going on on reservations, the fact that they have such high unemployment rates, health care issues, education issues, environmental issues, lack of water, lack of electricity."No one wants to talk about that stuff, because it’s not cocktail, chit-chat-talk, it’s a real-life need, real-life issues. And I think they don’t want to focus on that, and I dedicated an effort to do that."

Manziel Gestures To R*dskins
As the R*dskins made things difficult for Browns QBs, Johnny Manziel let his frustration show with an obscene gesture to the opposing sideline. Story »ManzielVideo Big deal? »Skins hold on »
i just love how the fuckers at ESPN are playing up the controversy over one dude flipping the bird and still r-skinning it all over their site.

good job mike. i sympathize with why he didn't feel he could be more public about this at the time but i am glad he has decided to talk about it now.

After watching the A Football Life about Ditka it became clear to me that he wasn't even a good football coach.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 21 August 2014 22:21 (nine years ago) link
Like, the main thing he provided the Bears was attitude. The players seemed to openly hate him.
― polyphonic, Thursday, 21 August 2014 22:23 (nine years ago) link
Yeah, the Cult of Ditka is a Chicago homer thing that's only spread around the rest of the country because the NFL plays favorites.
― Everyone's a closet ned. (Johnny Fever), Thursday, 21 August 2014 22:39 (nine years ago) link
in terms of putting out a shorthand image of chicago for the rest of the country to judge us on, ditka was the worst thing that happened to the city since the democratic national convention of '68.

at least most of the music in 'the blues brothers' was dece, despite it leading to a million crappy cover bands and hearing its songs piped through multiple times at every sporting event in the city for the next 30+ years (still ongoing afaik.)

when snyder inevitably goes looking for a brand new stadium, whoever offers to pay for the building should require a name change to go along w/ it

If Snyder somehow cons a municipality into funding a stadium for him even though his current one (admittedly, by all reports, a piece of shit)is only like 15 years old, then we will know that this world is totally fucked.
― Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 5 September 2014 14:41 (nine years ago) link
As much as I hate the Patriots, i give them credit for building their own stadium with no public money. The Vikings, on the other hand, just absolutely fleeced the state.

The fleecing of the public to pay for stadiums that the vast majority of taxpayers cant afford to go to is just mind-blowing. I cant believe every time a team tries to hijack a city to get taxpayer money to build a stadium it works. If anybody has the time, read the Atlanta Journal Constitution's ongoing series about the new Braves stadium. It's nauseating (the deal for the new stadium, not the AJC whose reporting on this issue is fantastic).
― Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 5 September 2014 18:31 (nine years ago) link
yeah. and nfl stadiums are in use 10 days (one or two more, for the fortunate) a year, two of which are pre-season games designed mainly to fleece season ticket holders
― mookieproof, Friday, 5 September 2014 18:54 (nine years ago) link
I can really only speak for the georgia dome (which is also being replaced) but it gets used quite a bit: college games, concerts, truck shows, etc. Im actually going to be one of the 5000 people (out of 70k capacity) there tomorrow for the Georgia State-New Mexico State game cuz a buddy of mine is an assistant for NMS.
― Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Friday, 5 September 2014 20:34 (nine years ago) link
And the new falcons stadium will be used for the new MLS team. That being said, its a fucking obscene waste of money. The Dome is perfectly fine.
Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) announced Tuesday that she will introduce legislation to eliminate the NFL's tax-exempt status because of its refusal to address the name of the Washington Hatcats.
