i'm cool with colin farrell starring in this television show

colin's done some fine work, just been in a lot of bad movies
― da croupier, Friday, 11 July 2014 23:08 (nine years ago) link
i mean there are reports that there are 4 leads and maybe there's still a heavy that hasn't been announced, but if the biggest star in the show goes from MM to CF that's kind of a downgrade just in starpower, never mind that i wouldn't put In Bruges or whatever CF's best performance is up against any of MM's best roles.

my heart is def not a-flutter imagining colin farrell doing rust cohle monologues but a) wasn't exactly jonesing for Mateo to speak them either before he did and b) no reason to assume Colin would be asked to play a knock-off rust cohle anyway
― da croupier, Friday, 11 July 2014 23:12 (nine years ago) link
I'd be down with Farrell as long as it's a McConaghey-like performance where everyone's going, "Wow, this is amazing, completely unlike any acting I've ever seen before from Colin Farrell!"
― pplains, Friday, 11 July 2014 23:14 (nine years ago) link
i will say if Farrell was being asked to replace Mateo as Rust Cohle in True Detective: Legacy I'd be unenthusiastic. And that's basically the situation William Friedkin would be in, respective to Fukunaga.
― da croupier, Friday, 11 July 2014 23:19 (nine years ago) link
I don't think McConaghey's performance as Rust was unlike anything he'd done before, it was pretty close to his more recent roles in Mud, Killer Joe, etc.

Farrell would be fine, I'm sure. Much more worried about Riggins tbh.

"You know, humans are things that labor under the illusion of having a self; an accretion of sensory, experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody is nobody."
"Well if there's anybody who should be an expert on being a nobody, it's you, Cliff."

See, the preacher, he encourages your capacity for illusion. Then he tells you it's a fucking virtue. Always a buck to be had doing that, and it's such a desperate sense of entitlement, isn't it?

I mean, touché.
Would watch if Farrell's sidekick was Rhea Perlman (as Carla Tortelli)

yeah, that article could have used a few sentences of context. I think Nikki Pizza was responding to criticism about his female characters or something. Good to know he has a woman friend tho.
― Now you're messing with a (President Keyes), Friday, 8 August 2014 20:18 (nine years ago) link
well it's set in California and presumably the subject is conspiracies so I'll assume Pynchon is the starting place right

it would be cool if the show got some older actors in the mix. i feel like Damages is a high water mark for modern cable drama casting, so many vets got to go on that show and do something unlike their previous roles and usually kill it.
