Had it with hype over this so-called golden generation of Belgian fans.

I thought we had a moratorium in place on "tiki-taka" as a symptom of poor journalism, esp now ppl speak of its demise. Awful lot of quick one-touch passing fron germamy last night, particularly good game from lahm running things in his guardiola role

Khedira was the man last night

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 13:30 (nine years ago) link

Isn't he another one of Arsenal's imaginary signing targets?

Dutch will be making subs at the hour mark tonight to stay fresh for final

cpt navajo (darraghmac), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 13:57 (nine years ago) link

eh, especially when you get to the tail end of the tournament, i find it hard to imagine a european team beating a south american team in south america

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:04 (nine years ago) link

Kinda of think Argentina will win tonight based on the illogical reasoning that Brazil having to play them on Saturday is too much.

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:07 (nine years ago) link

brazil beating argentina for 3rd would be a good redemption story

iatee, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:10 (nine years ago) link

I mean I don't want it to happen, but from a narrative pov

iatee, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:10 (nine years ago) link

It's not like the Olympics, nobody gives a fuck about 3rd in the WC. If Brazil win they'll be shrugs at best, if they get humiliated again....

pandemic, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:11 (nine years ago) link

I know nobody gives a fuck about the actual title, that's why it matters that it would be against argentina

iatee, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:12 (nine years ago) link

it's about as important as the confederations cup

caek, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:17 (nine years ago) link

100% behind Germany now whatever.

ewar woowar (or something), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:44 (nine years ago) link

Nah, wouldn't mind seeing Robben diving his way to a World Cup winners medal. But, seriously, what a bummer for the Germans if they don't win it now.

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 14:51 (nine years ago) link

I'll root for anybody against Germany

“Because he doesn’t like physical contact, you have to make him feel it,” Demichelis declared. “You have to get under his skin.

“We have to be aggressive, to make the Dutch feel the passion of the Argentine player, especially to Robben.”

Probably a fake tbh, though after reading that article about football betting and all the sidebets that go on, I wouldn't be surprised if it were real

there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people making bets on these things, so it's not absurd that in the subset of 'people deciding to make a wacky bet' someone would hit. esp w/ soccer, where there's only so many ways to combine numbers under 10.

iatee, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:14 (nine years ago) link

imagine all tens of people out there who had germany-brazil and had their dreams crushed by germany getting lazy at 90'

iatee, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:15 (nine years ago) link

er 'had germany brazil 7-0'

iatee, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:16 (nine years ago) link

In the wake of Brazil's 7-1 loss to Germany, there has been plenty of blame to go around, but most of it has fallen on manager Luiz Felipe Scolari. The 65-year-old apologized for the loss in his post-match press conference and described it as the worst day of his professional life. And to make sure the next day wasn't much better, Neymar's agent, Wagner Ribeiro (not to be confused with Fresh Prince of Bell Air star Alfonso Ribeiro), decided to add his unfavorable view of Scolari to the mix.

Though his client was unable to play against Germany due to a back injury suffered during Brazil's quarterfinal win over Colombia, Ribeiro mocked Scolari by tweeting a list of the "six prerequisites to become manager of the Brazilian national team.

Here's a translation of the list, which is essentially a rundown of Scolari's career lowlights in recent years:

1. Go manage Portugal and not win anything.
2. Go to Chelsea and get fired.
3. Go manage in Uzbekistan.
4. Come back to Brazil, take control of a big team, and demote it back to the second division
5. Ask to quit 56 days before the end of the league to escape demotion.
6. Be an old jerk, arrogant, repulsive, conceited, and ridiculous.

Number None, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:22 (nine years ago) link

Cillessen; Kuyt, De Vrij, Vlaar, Martins Indi, Blind; De Jong, Sneijder, Wijnaldum; Robben, van Persie

Romero, Zabaleta, Demichelis, Garay, Rojo, Enzo Pérez, Biglia, Mascherano, Lavezzi, Messi, Higuaín

Number None, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:50 (nine years ago) link

I haven't even noticed Demichelis in this tournament so far and I have a feeling that may change tonight.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:55 (nine years ago) link

maybe cillessen will have a crisis of confidence after the krul incident and messi will score 7

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:59 (nine years ago) link

only way this tops last night is if it goes 4-4 or more

which was retweeted by (imago), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:02 (nine years ago) link
