I know you can't judge by youtube clips, but I really dislike the sweep sound on both the Fig Fumb and Trashy Blonde. I like the idea though.

However, by that same poor metric the PDF-1 is a really nice recreation of that Moog MPF-1 sound.

strymon

feeling this

niamh 1073 (electricsound), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 22:46 (nine years ago) link

I can't help but hear the name Strymon in a cod-Jamaican accent. Earthquaker Afterneath Otherworldly Reverberator sounds completely nuts. A little heavyhanded on the naming side of things though.

I'm at John's store and I'm trying not to drool.

*droooooollllll*

haha it's pretty great huh

He undersells it's awesomeness.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 21:07 (nine years ago) link

honestly John's store is one of the things I miss most about MN and a) I wasn't a guitar player when I was a kid, and b) I didn't spend that much time there growing up

Star Gentle Uterus (DJP), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 21:09 (nine years ago) link

Advice please. If you were looking to increase sustain, what pedal would you pick? Something like the Doctor Green's Life Support seems to look like a good effort, but I'm not sure about the autocompression. If heading down the compressor/sustainer route, is there anything to be gained beyond adjusting distortion pedals elsewhere in the chain?

Has anyone ever tried a Sustainiac?

Alex In Complete Agreement (aldo), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 15:33 (nine years ago) link

i dig opto compressors, do you have a mooer dealer in your area? the yellow comp is pretty awesome

I have a nice MXR compressor pedal that I've never understood how to use properly.

xp to NA - is it the dynacomp? those things are pretty brick hammer effecty compressors, they do the sustain thing but are very audibly compressed.

It's the '76 vintage Dyna Comp, don't know if that's any better.

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:30 (nine years ago) link

Do compression pedals go at the beginning or end of the chain, generally?

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:33 (nine years ago) link

placement is to taste and depends on your chain and what you're going for. I know of players who keep a comp on both ends (not nec both on at the same time)

resulting post (rogermexico.), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:39 (nine years ago) link

Guess I need to play around with it more.

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:42 (nine years ago) link

Mooer Blue is a CS-1, yellow is a Diamond, right? Feels like it might work. The Warden looks great but I think $200 is probably more than I want to spend on a compressor.

Dyna Comp is noisy (in a bad way) and not what I'm looking for.

So, I just need to find a Mooer dealer. I think eBay has showed me in the past that China and (bizarrely) Australia tend to be the cheapest.

I got a loan of an AdrenaLinn (original model) from a friend and it seems... interesting. Though I have no idea how to use it. Maybe a month of playing around with it will allow me to do something other than accidentally trigger drums and occasionally produce wacky sounds.

I have this fuzz. Pretty happy with it and it can get surprisingly "musical".

yeah that thing is a dead on Mosrite Fuzzrite silicon V3 clone (the one with the 2 orange encapsulated circuits. sprague?), but unlike the fuzzrite there is actually a range between off and total fuzz annihilation. We did a head to head comparison and i swear, blindfolded you would not be able to tell the difference at the max gain setting. i love that pedal.

still dunno what I'm doing with this. The same friend also loaned be a Tonebone Trimode distortion. It sounds very very nice. A little too nice. I have no space for such well-rounded hi-fi tones in my music.

jjj is the Chase Bliss Warped Vinyl as great as it appears?

(If yes then we might talk about you shipping some stuff to the UK since I will have to go to a US dealer for it whichever way I try and buy it.)

Whoa. Just checked out a demo for that. So many knobs and switches!

how's life, Tuesday, 19 August 2014 12:11 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I think it would work really well in some of the radio-based stuff that I do. (The plan would be to artifically 'age' live radio broadcasts.) Also you should be able to get really controlled glitching from it.

and she's crying in a stairwell in Devon (aldo), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 12:15 (nine years ago) link

the warped bliss is absolutely as amazing as it seems, yes. whats even better is that it was designed by someone who understands UI on a pedal I guess? meaning that all of the insane tweaks and features are incredibly accessible without the whole press this button and hold it for 4 seconds then turn this knob stuff that most pedal makers get caught up in with digital control. why no one else ever thought of external dipswitches is beyond me, because it just straight up makes sense.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 15:41 (nine years ago) link

Do you ship to the UK? If so, then I'll hit you up in mid-October (when I get back from holiday) with an order - I may well add in the yellow Mooer compressor and maybe something else depending on how reckless I feel.

and she's crying in a stairwell in Devon (aldo), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 15:47 (nine years ago) link

oh yeah, I'll ship anywhere, although i'll need to check up on any changes wrt UK ship rules etc, to figure out what the best deal of the minute is. just to get this out of the way right now, I can't dodge the customs declaration, way too risky now that I am in the process of building a real deal online store (well reverb store linked to my website unless i get a better idea).

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 19 August 2014 15:51 (nine years ago) link

Aye, no worries, most online retailers don't do 'gift' declarations these days in any case. A couple of months to think about what else I might fancy then.

Can anyone recommend me a good wah for around $100? My Cry Baby that I've had for a decade or so is starting to get noisy.

Anyone? Or is the CryBaby the standard here? The only other models I can find are represented by guitarist I hate.
