Hazard is sucky today
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:36 (nine years ago) link
Shame, I like his enthusiasm xp
― StanM, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:37 (nine years ago) link
yeah it was right after a really sweet sequence where he had a one on one opp that was unfortunately blocked.
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:37 (nine years ago) link
lol way to play into Messi's trap Belgium
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:38 (nine years ago) link
ow that almost grazed the sac a bit
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:39 (nine years ago) link
I think I'd better stop watching, Belgium only scores when I don't watch
― StanM, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:40 (nine years ago) link
beautiful cross
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:41 (nine years ago) link
Despite not being 'a natural left back' Vertonghen's crossing is excellent.
― Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:45 (nine years ago) link
arg have bossed belg out of the game as the half has gone on. i am glad that belgium are playing football because it is their best chance to win this game but arg are playing pretty well front to back. one belg goal tho and it could all fall to pieces.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:45 (nine years ago) link
Belgium could have used a lil more patience on some of their possessions
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:48 (nine years ago) link
Oh great, local channels on Directv crap out just in time for one of the matches to be on a local channel. I suspect a soccer-hater somewhere.

"too much respect/fear for the Argentinians" is what Belgian TV analysts are saying. They're reminded of the first three matches but this is a little more attacking. They're expecting Lukaku in the second half.
― StanM, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:54 (nine years ago) link
Messi's long pass to Di Maria was the best moment so far.
― Plasmon, Saturday, 5 July 2014 16:56 (nine years ago) link
Hazard hasn't been on his best form for months (xposts)

de bruyne most frustrating player of the tournament?

not sure about those subs, 2/3 used and not taken opportunity to change anything

The tournament always becomes kinda crap in the final stretch.
Four of the last seven world cups have had higher average goals per game in the last eight than in the group stages

Well, yeah, if you include penalty-comps...
(no, but seriously, is that true? That sounds amazing, I always remember boring 0-0 games towards the end, but I'm not old enough to remember seven world cups.)

fellaini is getting the proper big man treatment off the ref
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:30 (nine years ago) link
oof bye bye hazard
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:33 (nine years ago) link
xp 1990, 2002 & 2006 had fewer average goals in the last eight. partially skewed by the third place play off which is nearly always a wild goalfest
― ogmor, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:34 (nine years ago) link
i don't think 0-0 matches are inherently boring, if there are lots of scoring opps and tight defense negates each opportunity.
I find a match like this one far more boring because Belgium are playing extremely sloppy purposeless ball
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:34 (nine years ago) link
Poor WC for Hazard. He's a bit over-rated anyway imo
― everyday sheeple (Michael B), Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:36 (nine years ago) link
1990 had the lowest goals/match overall right?
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:38 (nine years ago) link
one good corner cmon!
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:42 (nine years ago) link
5 offsides in the match
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:43 (nine years ago) link
sorry, 6!
Maybe next time, Belgium. This was this generation's first attempt at something big, I'm happy they got this far already.

Impatient and one-dimensional play from Belgium

Favourites take early lead, underdogs never quite mount a challenge is such a disappointing narrative

― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:53 (nine years ago) link
i agree Ismael. Argentina played a fine match and did what they were supposed to do but at least if that early goal was to stand, it might have been more entertaining had Belgium ever launched a solitary effective attack.
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:54 (nine years ago) link
aww. well, i hope this group of players does improve together. there is a danger they never move beyond being a slightly better, more fun england.
― Roberto Spiralli, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:54 (nine years ago) link
go Costa Rica!
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:55 (nine years ago) link
wau at that bird's eye view of that swarm of people
We'll probably get another tonight xps, but if so at least there won't be any favourites in the rest of the tourney
― Ismael Klata, Saturday, 5 July 2014 17:55 (nine years ago) link
Chiles just wrote them off in exactly those terms, RS: 'and so Belgium's golden generation go the same way as England's'

Otm. Haven't really enjoyed any matches this weekend, here hoping hoping Los Ticos come up with a spanner to throw in the works of the Clockwork Orange *fingers crossed*(xp)
