ref was way too lenient -- he needed to hand a couple of yellow cards and things would've been pegged back a bit.

Nostromo, agreed: Luiz seemed to enjoy that a tad too much.

@tejucole
Side-eye all the ladies and gentlemen offering to console, really console, James Rodríguez.

A couple of cards in the 1st half, towards the end.

Watching replay after replay, still don't think that second was a free kick.

Number None, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:10 (nine years ago) link

top stuff from sam allardyce's brazil.

Merdeyeux, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:10 (nine years ago) link

Brazil are hateful.

Raccoon Tanuki, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:10 (nine years ago) link

yeah it was a free kick, yellow was harsh in circs but consistent with ref being a homer, sorry for impugning Neymar's bottle and fingers crossed he's ok

Daphnis Celesta, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:11 (nine years ago) link

What's even thr point of Brazil going through without Neymar and Thiago tbf? Colombia better team in every aspect to me.

Raccoon Tanuki, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:12 (nine years ago) link

there's nothing wrong with Brazil really, Germany will probly do them given anything like an even playing field, but Rodriguez has had an exceptional tournament and it's hard to see it finish

Daphnis Celesta, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:13 (nine years ago) link

Not today they weren't
xp

pandemic, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:13 (nine years ago) link

if one or two of James' team mates had stepped up they'd probly have won, thought Cuadrado was especially poor tonight

Daphnis Celesta, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:14 (nine years ago) link

yeah, he was a disaster

Number None, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:15 (nine years ago) link

Neymar's cd be a ruptured kidney

Germany had better waste them

which was retweeted by (imago), Friday, 4 July 2014 22:17 (nine years ago) link

whilst there have been better teams who i wd've prefered to win, eg Chile and Colombia, i'm still not really gettin the full-on Kill Brazil hysteria

Daphnis Celesta, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:18 (nine years ago) link

they're shite m8

Number None, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:20 (nine years ago) link

Daphnis Celesta, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:20 (nine years ago) link

did anyone even spot fred on the pitch tonight?

john wahey (NickB), Friday, 4 July 2014 22:21 (nine years ago) link

he's shaved his moustache, i was sad

Daphnis Celesta, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:22 (nine years ago) link

brazil are big floppy turds

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 4 July 2014 22:23 (nine years ago) link

Nothing against brazil, I just preffer the underdog.

nostormo, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:26 (nine years ago) link

Also, it would be nice to see the world cup given to someone new

nostormo, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:28 (nine years ago) link

Yeah they should give it to Germany

, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:28 (nine years ago) link

Which is new in a way..

nostormo, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:29 (nine years ago) link

Brazil got through because Chile and Colombia lack big game experience. The defending for the first Colombian goal was atrocious. Ditto Chile. Incredibly ugly goals.

They did control the game, then as soon as they got the 2nd Brazil (great free kick, and the tournament has lacked those) chose to sit back and give possession. All their performances are schizophrenic, to say the least.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:29 (nine years ago) link

I'm rooting for Brazil and Argentina tbh

Pray 4 Neymar

, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:31 (nine years ago) link

Germany should be heavy faves - lots of experience, lots of big tourney hurt.

No outstanding centre back though - be interesting to see what their 15 mins is like compared to Chile and Colombia. Should be more assured but that crowd can unnerve..

How serious was that foul on Neymar? He's probably not 100% fit by this point but he has to be there. Maybe he can borrow Suarez's wheelchair.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:33 (nine years ago) link

Knee to the lower back...doesn't sound good..

nostormo, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:39 (nine years ago) link

Unlovable clogging Brazil team but they were still better than Colombia tonight.

Genuinely no Idea who is going to win dis ting, no one looks super convincing.

Matt DC, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:50 (nine years ago) link

Holland the most convincing team I've seen, though I did miss most of the Mexico game

Ismael Klata, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:52 (nine years ago) link

...where they were far from convincing

nostormo, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:54 (nine years ago) link

I figured. They do have van Gaal though, he's a different order from all the other managers.

Ismael Klata, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:56 (nine years ago) link

if Neymar will be ok, i think Brazil are faves to win, if only because they play at home

nostormo, Friday, 4 July 2014 22:57 (nine years ago) link

there it is

caek, Friday, 4 July 2014 23:09 (nine years ago) link

idk tbh I was watching it in a big drinking crowd at a party and we were so viciously partisan for Colombia and hhhccchhhhhhaaaaammmmmmmeezszzzszszszzz that the ref couldnt have satisfied us anyway. Colombia that picked and pulled at Uruguay never showed up, Brazil scored their set plays, there's it.

Brazil an affront to Brazil tho obv.
