Feel so amazing now that we've won the World Cup

Amazing tournament and every team played well but in the end true skill prevailed

USA! USA! USA!

i do think it's great that we can take the whole thing w/out winning once, just like every war we've lost after 1945

Inaccuracy just might be on purpose ;)

pandemic, Thursday, 26 June 2014 19:46 (nine years ago) link

its a fair argument if anyone on that panel were fit to the ease it out with a decent opposite position, like dunphy on rte

Kerzhakov starts with Kokorin, which is positive. Dzagoev still on the bench though.

Allez les Fennecs!

I'm not confused by the mechanics and math, i'm just not a fan of anything other than Wins and Losses determining who WINS AND LOSES. Points for a tie is the dumbest thing ever. Just seed the teams properly, have a best of 3 and the winners move on. Or do Sudden Death every match.

Surprised he hasn't done it already

This is the Russia I like though. No big superstars, but a flowing machine pre-1989 like.

playin some Fantasia - Lose to Win up in here

finding out you've won after you lost is like waking up for school to learn it's cancelled due to snow

lol that doesn't even make sense. How would you 'seed the teams properly'? arbitrarily rank them at the onset of the tournament? sudden death every match? what, like March Madness? boring. Round robins do a better job of ensuring the better squads make it to the knockout round.

also wtf is wrong with points for a tie, hockey did that for years (and now currently awards points to overtime losses now that they eliminated ties). you're acting like teams who went 0-1-2 are advancing to the knockout round.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:32 (nine years ago) link

the only reason they use points (or should I say, point, as a tie is only 1 point) is because determining champions by win percentage becomes very difficult when ties are involved and doesn't really paint an accurate picture

Neanderthal, Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:34 (nine years ago) link

You know you've had it with a football thread if people barge in questioning the most basic game rules that have been around for ages. Jesus Christ.

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:36 (nine years ago) link

Russia giving the ball away too much. There's real chances to break here but they keep wasting them. Algeria have 2 or 3 v good dribblers.

pandemic, Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:37 (nine years ago) link

Brb, off to the baseball thread to nag about why there's nine innings and not three or seventeen. Nine is just a ridiculous number. Also, why not use a tennis racket instead of a bat?

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:38 (nine years ago) link

Why can't they just pick up and throw the damn ball like gentlemen?

Sufjan Grafton, Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:39 (nine years ago) link

Or just roll it to home base. Why throw? It's so aggressive, someone could get hurt.

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 26 June 2014 20:40 (nine years ago) link

Algeria trying their best, just not dangerous enough yet.

yeah, the team with the richest owners should win

not at all, the team with the most efficient use of their available resources will always triumph in the long run

catchy is what it is.

mizzell, Thursday, 26 June 2014 21:07 (nine years ago) link

Isn't that part of the official FIFA ad campaign? I think everyone has to use that. ESPN's own intros show lava devouring Rio, which is then relocated to the middle of Russia, then back to Brazil.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 June 2014 21:12 (nine years ago) link
