Greece played the better football in that game though

avicii usque ad arse (imago), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:13 (nine years ago) link

Somehow whatever happens in world football, Greece remain the same. Really feeling for CIV but they should have had Bony on from the start. And not been so suicidally attacking near the end.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:15 (nine years ago) link

tbf they knew they had to win in open play

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:15 (nine years ago) link

xp

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:15 (nine years ago) link

Ivory Coast defend like crap for the 1st goal so no sympathy.

Greece are thrash - showed less than nothing for most of that group. Hope Costa Rica go through.

For Football's sake.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:16 (nine years ago) link

or IC were appalling for that 1st

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:16 (nine years ago) link

Poor Costa Rica, expecting all that glamour and having to play England and Greece back to back.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:17 (nine years ago) link

Suarez on Uruguayan telly:

"(The bite) are things that just happen in the box. Chielini touched me with his shoulder, which also isn't very nice."

Literally? Yes, literally.

Luis is correct in many ways about the double standards re: violence in football, and yet surely by now he's worked out what happens when he bites somebody

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:23 (nine years ago) link

comfort eating he probably doesn't even remember going to the fridge

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:24 (nine years ago) link

I'd be happy for him to redeem himself in the usual way, please

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:24 (nine years ago) link

I agree, but Suarez isn't the spokesman for Double Standards Inc. Not after tonight. That is one debate he should make a pass on.

Xxp

what, you want him to score a hatful for Real once he's unbanned in November?

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:26 (nine years ago) link

big aul chomp out've yerman, probably thinking about his plans for Sunday if its nice, or maybe reading TV times, realises its a fuckin human being ah tits not again, coffee cup falls to ground in slo mo to reveal DONT BITE ANYONE YOU FUCKING LOOPER just another day out around the penalty spot for luis

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:27 (nine years ago) link

Perhaps the continued biting campaign is a noble crusade to expose these double standards?

Number None, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:30 (nine years ago) link

xp then pick up the kids on the way home

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:31 (nine years ago) link

Nasty, but I would love to get to the Freudian bottom of his behavior. Three strikes/bites = out. Shit is pathological. Did he not get to suck the teet enough? Is it Oedipus complex? The possible psychological deranged reasons for Suarez' behavior are endless.

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:31 (nine years ago) link

nobody's defending the boy's dining habits but the outrage this shit invokes compared to dudes who've made careers out of casually elbowing faces/trying to snap legs is out of all proportion to the relative damage done. yeah but biting is really really bad i know! but y'know weird acceptable/unacceptable aggressions

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:33 (nine years ago) link

he does other stuff too

Number None, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:34 (nine years ago) link

there's constructive ways of bringing attn to inappropriate contact in yr place of work, and biting may well be a suitable response in some cases, I just ain't sure that for Luis Suarez in 2014 its the option to go for

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:34 (nine years ago) link

fair and measured

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:36 (nine years ago) link

bear in mind I spent today off work after inappropriate contact at five a side last night

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:37 (nine years ago) link

was that a work-related game of five a side because yr conduct policy probably covers social engagements too y'know

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:39 (nine years ago) link

can see i spent the hour i managed to be at work for today usefully

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:40 (nine years ago) link

sadly not

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:40 (nine years ago) link

NV otm, not much worse than elbows etc., the punishment should be similar...

However given that behaviour was entirely within the cynicism taking place during the match -- Chiellini kept play acting -- I wouldn't ban him and allow him to play in what would be a terrific match against Colombia.

For Football's sake.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:41 (nine years ago) link

xyzzz's trolling otm this time

avicii usque ad arse (imago), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:44 (nine years ago) link

+z, can't sell you short

avicii usque ad arse (imago), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:44 (nine years ago) link

btw its not trolling. I didn't like Chiellini's behaviour. The match was always going to be bad tempered and cynical. Its all good and part of the game.

Amazing there was no brawl in the end although I think the Italian assistant was sent off.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:45 (nine years ago) link

six match ban for the bite would def leave a nasty taste in yr mouth, it all hinges on how chiellinis elbow is treated but that's a matter of a pinion

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:48 (nine years ago) link

:D

avicii usque ad arse (imago), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:50 (nine years ago) link

are you suggesting when it comes to a decision that FIFA will just wing it? cause that wd be a choker

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 22:54 (nine years ago) link

idk but too see him out of the next round would leave a lump in the throat, something to chew on and tough to swallow

TBH have rarely seen a footballer who was feeling himself as much as Suarez was in these three games, he's such a chronic masticator

, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 23:08 (nine years ago) link

don't think he should be punished for having a dental misorder

^ 諷刺 (ken c), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 23:08 (nine years ago) link

awes

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 23:09 (nine years ago) link

not punishing him now surely introduces the possibility of eh the Belgians trying something similar

t would be a molar hazard

all UK tabloid subs super pissed off tonight on realising they could have used it wrt Ivanovic bite had they thought of it

Kiss Screaming Seagull Her Seagull Her (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 23:21 (nine years ago) link

the swiftness of its dropping tonite makes me wonder if the author had thought it up some time after Ivanovic and then their eyes lit up when he went in on Chiellini

clockpuncher (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 23:24 (nine years ago) link

bullshit man, bullshit. Suarez was in on it maaaan, this goes all the way to the top

leave the web boys alone (darraghmac), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 23:27 (nine years ago) link

lol I forgot that he also sucker punched that Chilean defender last year

anonanon, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 23:29 (nine years ago) link

tbh any kind of justice system where biting somebody gets punished more than this, I don't want to be part of it
