hulk wants the gif of that miss embedded in his gravestone. fucking donkey

Try as I might to feel otherwise, a heavy sense of doom has fallen over me now that Chile is sure to play Brazil. The record against the selecao is dismal (8-50-12 since 1916, if my source is correct), and the sheer weight of this precedent overshadows any other considerations for me. Nonetheless, I'm glad some of you are feeling a bit more bullish about their chances.

Hulk will do his best as well

Number None, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 07:21 (nine years ago) link

I fear for Chile too, if they had a top class striker the Netherlands wouldn't have seen which way they went yesterday.

ewar woowar (or something), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 07:51 (nine years ago) link

Tim Vickery yesterday (who is one of the few people I quite like listening to from the BBC) cites that record plus Chile's weaknesses in set pieces and the counter. Otoh Brazil's non-defense will leak more goals if Chile pass and move around like they can.

I am probably and sadly wrong.

It will be a high scoring match.

‏@ThomAlexWatt
Rickie Lambert’s fastest recorded speed (16.9 km/h) at the World Cup is slower than that of Pletikosa, Neuer, Courtois, Reina or Akinfeev.

‏@ThomAlexWatt
In fact, there are only five players with slower figures. All of them goalkeepers.

, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 16:33 (nine years ago) link

caceras shot from 15 yards in his own half. he missed.

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 16:38 (nine years ago) link

Ludo, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 16:56 (nine years ago) link

panettone for the painfully alone (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:01 (nine years ago) link

that half of football was almost completely dire. italy happy enough i guess, uruguay have barely mustered an attack.

mario hooked. lodeiro hooked.

Poor old Cavani, worlds most expensive striker spent the last game man marking Gerrard and at the start of this half has been detailed to mark Pirlo. Continues to be a terrible game.

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:15 (nine years ago) link

This used to be such a great world cup, what happened the last couple of days?

StanM, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:16 (nine years ago) link

it's over, man

maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:16 (nine years ago) link

is the england game any good

gbx, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:17 (nine years ago) link

I liked Mexico-Croatia, and found Netherlands approach interesting. Teams have decided to defend properly I guess.

Chance for Uruguay. Missed.

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:17 (nine years ago) link

Ian Darke just said "Ho-el Campbell". That's a change in style.

England-CR game not great, not bad.

dan m, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:17 (nine years ago) link

marchisio red card

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:18 (nine years ago) link

Drop soap, not bombs (Ste), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:19 (nine years ago) link

over the ball, not much force but one of those where you overrun the ball

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:19 (nine years ago) link

dunno if that was a red really

gbx, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:20 (nine years ago) link

not too sure uruguay have the skill to utilize the extra man. Not exactly a possession team.

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:21 (nine years ago) link

he barely touched him tbh

pandemic, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:21 (nine years ago) link

That's just gonna suck even more of the life out of this game :(

ewar woowar (or something), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:22 (nine years ago) link

wee bit harsh but there was really no need whatsoever to put his studs up there

Number None, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:22 (nine years ago) link

tho tbh i'm quite happy to see italy go out

gbx, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:22 (nine years ago) link

Nasty deliberate tackle, potential severe injury, red is too mild

abcfsk, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:23 (nine years ago) link

Cosat Rica haven't really turned up; England couldn't score in a knocking shop with a ten bob note tied around their collective pecker.

painfully alive in a drugged and dying culture (DavidM), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 17:23 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, intentional violence that was not contesting the ball. Cya.
