OCHOA!

pandemic, Monday, 23 June 2014 21:49 (nine years ago) link

Chile don't have a great record against either side but wld probably prefer Mexico

ogmor, Monday, 23 June 2014 21:52 (nine years ago) link

Brazil are off the pace, not quite sharp enough and Chile are just the team to hand out punishment.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 23 June 2014 21:57 (nine years ago) link

Be a great match - can't wait except there are a few more good games this week first *pleasure overload*

Will be v interesting what tactic Holland will use against Mexico. Impressed by what Herrera has done with that team.

Just put that Ian Wright thing on the English football thread on ILF. What a complete fucking tool.

ailsa, Monday, 23 June 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

so if gerrard and lampard retire does wright want them to call soldiers families?

pandemic, Monday, 23 June 2014 22:02 (nine years ago) link

Don't think they qualify as young, tbf.

ailsa, Monday, 23 June 2014 22:03 (nine years ago) link

Brazil looked so much better with Fernandinho on the pitch. Before that, the move that led up to the Hulk miss was incredible, shame about the finish. David Luiz did way too much pissing about dressed as Erykah Badu tonight.

Try as I might to feel otherwise, a heavy sense of doom has fallen over me now that Chile is sure to play Brazil. The record against the selecao is dismal (8-50-12 since 1916, if my source is correct), and the sheer weight of this precedent overshadows any other considerations for me. Nonetheless, I'm glad some of you are feeling a bit more bullish about their chances.

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 02:44 (nine years ago) link

pray for paulinho to start imo

anonanon, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 04:13 (nine years ago) link

Hulk will do his best as well

Number None, Tuesday, 24 June 2014 07:21 (nine years ago) link

I fear for Chile too, if they had a top class striker the Netherlands wouldn't have seen which way they went yesterday.

ewar woowar (or something), Tuesday, 24 June 2014 07:51 (nine years ago) link

Tim Vickery yesterday (who is one of the few people I quite like listening to from the BBC) cites that record plus Chile's weaknesses in set pieces and the counter. Otoh Brazil's non-defense will leak more goals if Chile pass and move around like they can.

I am probably and sadly wrong.

It will be a high scoring match.

‏@ThomAlexWatt
Rickie Lambert’s fastest recorded speed (16.9 km/h) at the World Cup is slower than that of Pletikosa, Neuer, Courtois, Reina or Akinfeev.

‏@ThomAlexWatt
In fact, there are only five players with slower figures. All of them goalkeepers.
