After watching the A Football Life about Ditka it became clear to me that he wasn't even a good football coach.

Like, the main thing he provided the Bears was attitude. The players seemed to openly hate him.

Yeah, the Cult of Ditka is a Chicago homer thing that's only spread around the rest of the country because the NFL plays favorites.

in terms of putting out a shorthand image of chicago for the rest of the country to judge us on, ditka was the worst thing that happened to the city since the democratic national convention of '68.

at least most of the music in 'the blues brothers' was dece, despite it leading to a million crappy cover bands and hearing its songs piped through multiple times at every sporting event in the city for the next 30+ years (still ongoing afaik.)
