what a season gerrard is having. he's directly involved in liverpool losing in the title race, now this. truly a good time for the gerrard haters :)

At least Rooney got his World Cup goal. That's all England were after really.
― cajunsunday, Thursday, 19 June 2014 20:56 (nine years ago) link
i have watched most of the world cup and england might be the worst team i have seen
― een, Thursday, 19 June 2014 20:57 (nine years ago) link
England finally as good as Spain.
― EZ Snappin, Thursday, 19 June 2014 20:57 (nine years ago) link
XP to lbi ur kidding
Italy meowed every time they passed it the last half hour, can't catch us, meow, too slow, meow, look how red you get, English! meow, meow, licks whiskers
tonight was a woeful lack of cohesion on the ball (was there ever a sight as sad as Rooney back-to-goal?) and utter gormlessness off it. Uruguay frankly poor.
― houllier than thou (darraghmac), Thursday, 19 June 2014 20:58 (nine years ago) link
Should've said England had the intention to play attacking football. Didn't succeed though. Rooney is your curse, sorry, but it's true.
― In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 19 June 2014 20:59 (nine years ago) link
the score wasn't necessarily what they were hoping for but england have to be pleased with themselves looking at the cunt chart from that game:
1) gerrard2) uruguay3) ref4) england
that is a result however you slice it. and i know stats aren't everything but this does really highlight that something has to be done about gerrard.
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 19 June 2014 20:59 (nine years ago) link
"tonight was for the last 15 years there has been a woeful lack of cohesion on the ball (was there ever a sight as sad as Rooney back-to-goal?) and utter gormlessness off it."

― houllier than thou (darraghmac), Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:01 (nine years ago) link
there was a stat flashed up round 80 mins where England had 300 and something completed passes to Uruguay's 180 or so... but the majority were the same pussyole ten-yard placeholder passes in the middle third they've been eating up time with for almost as long as I can remember. Sturridge, Sterling for a minute and Baines when he woke up were nice to watch but kind of a curate's egg imo

― houllier than thou (darraghmac), Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:02 (nine years ago) link
Attractive play, something I've not seen from England in my lifetime possible.
Against Italy, yeah, but tonight was boring.
i have watched most of the world cup and england might be the worst team i have seen.
And that's going too far the other way. Cameroon?
― Turtleneck Work Solutions (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:02 (nine years ago) link
Honduras for the worst team
― Jibe, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:03 (nine years ago) link
and yeah everyone is gonna pile on Gerrard but honestly I can't think of one incisive moment from him in the game
― Kiss Screaming Seagull Her Seagull Her (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:03 (nine years ago) link
conceding from a goal kick it's just like 2010, lucky it's a happy camp eh
can't play gerrard he's used to assisting luis, just as well suarez wasn't fit really
england go home, i'll still enjoy the WC
england play just like liverpool really, boom bang bosh

― houllier than thou (darraghmac), Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:04 (nine years ago) link
Hart, Baines, Johnson, Jagielka, Gerrard, Welbeck, Rooney not good enough to play international football
― Blandford Forum, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:04 (nine years ago) link
NB I'd been drinking almost nonstop for about 30 hours when I watched the Italy game so I can't really weigh it up against this

Ivory coast's crying Serey Die was thinking about his father who died in 2004 btw.
― StanM, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:25 (nine years ago) link
Everyone is to blame for lionising Gerrard to the extent he became the bullshit undroppable boy for club and country, forcing him into this bullshit defensive midfield role that HE isn't good enough to play for country and especially club.
The midfield and back four were so far from the calibre required of even a competent international team tonight.
Don't deserve to go through.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:25 (nine years ago) link
yes the scoring system actually calculated the better team correctly in both of england's games
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:27 (nine years ago) link
for both URU goals suarez was the only blue shirt within like 20 yards of the net
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:34 (nine years ago) link
gerrard is a fantastic player, he's just not a DM. The goal was more about the CB's than him, the problem was his general performance NOT the goal.
― pandemic, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:35 (nine years ago) link
wtf tracer what's the point? that someone should have followed him? its not that simple, man.

no doubt pandemic, doesn't change the fact that the baying mob (myself included) demands their pound of flesh and Stevie G is as good a scapegoat as any. Bring out the sheets, have the cunt put out of his misery, he's a walking punchline these days anyhow
― Windsor Davies, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:38 (nine years ago) link
idgaf about how gerrard played for l'pool but he was a disaster in that game. i agree that he shouldn't be a DM because he needs to be as far away from england's goal as possible. he was horrible in possession, horrible out. at fault for the break for the first goal even if you want to give him a pass for the second
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:40 (nine years ago) link
him getting brutalized on that 50/50 with suarez was the defining gerrard moment ad much as him punting away every attack in the last 10 mins
― Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:41 (nine years ago) link
Everyone is to blame for lionising Gerrard
I'm not

― Number None, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:46 (nine years ago) link
lampard and gerrard will be gone after this WC anyway and Eng will have no central midfielders so that will be interesting at least.
― pandemic, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:47 (nine years ago) link
DOES THIS MEAN THE END OF "HOOF IT UP TO THE BIG MAN"??
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link
Thought Henderson was England's best player by some distance so was surprised when he came off.
Gerrard got the benefit of the argument for years in the Fat Frank debate that they just couldn't play together. Now it turns out he can't play in an England shirt with a guy from the same club side as him. One common factor in him not being able to play well there.
