same seller as the $20k caustic window lp. wonder if the same deal will be struck?

koogs, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 16:06 (nine years ago) link

My first impression was that this is actually a brand new record released in the most obtuse way he could think of. I mean it's probably not true but it's amusing to think about.

would also be great if someone just read the interview with the mu-ziq guy, deliberately created music similar to what paradinas described, and that's what everyone is currently freaking out over. super improbable but RDJ gets my conspiracy theory pseudo logic going.

A couple of those Caustic Window tracks have been released before, no? I have "Cunt" on a comp I bought in 1994, and the version on that Youtube playlist is the same one (and it still sounds as awful as it did 20 years ago). I guess the rest of the tracks could still be fake, though...

Tuomas, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 17:06 (nine years ago) link

There's a number of drum parts, synth settings and melodic styles that are absolute classic RDJ trademarks circa 1990-1994 on this. Also the two comp tracks. If these are fake, then this whole board is fake; each thread produced by some form of music nerd AI. Nothing to see here.

octobeard, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 17:38 (nine years ago) link

yeah, i believe two of them came out in the 90s on compilations.

nope

Yeah, I have no doubts about this being genuine either.

MikoMcha, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 19:44 (nine years ago) link

does it make any difference if fake or real?

This isn't the first time he's been accused of being in on a hoax. It reminds me of the Black Devil Disco Club reissue from a few years ago. This writer seems convinced it actually was a hoax and seems kind of angry about it on this review for the follow up album. http://www.allmusic.com/album/28-after-mw0000573787

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 19 June 2014 14:26 (nine years ago) link

I'm thinking it was actually wise not to release this in 1994 because it really does sound super similar to a lot of stuff he was doing at the time. Though releasing under Caustic Window probably would have alleviated a lot of that

aaliyah papi (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 19 June 2014 15:00 (nine years ago) link

how have I never heard of Black Devil Disco Club before???

macklin' rosie (crüt), Thursday, 19 June 2014 15:15 (nine years ago) link

Ugh that Black Devil review is so obnoxious. What a wanker. It's a great album!

everything, Thursday, 19 June 2014 16:43 (nine years ago) link

Some of us were listening to Black Devil Disco Club well before Rephlex reissued it.

dan selzer, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:19 (nine years ago) link

But we also thought there was no way it was from the 70s either.

dan selzer, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:20 (nine years ago) link

It was.

dan selzer, Thursday, 19 June 2014 21:20 (nine years ago) link

Oh yeah the Black Devil Disco Club album is fantastic as is 28 After. I always wondered how many people had actually heard it before the 2004 reissue. I certainly hadn't heard it before then.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 19 June 2014 22:01 (nine years ago) link

Too much of a good thing? The change of moniker wouldn't really combat that anyway, but isn't it also possible that it's just really original great music? Despite being massive influential, I can't think of many artists who entirely replicate this kind of early 90s RDJ sound...

MikoMcha, Thursday, 19 June 2014 23:09 (nine years ago) link
