Looks like the guy sells his pedals through Guitarleys.com (At least youtube indicates that)

Wow. That...wow.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 18 June 2014 14:42 (nine years ago) link

the harmonic decoder is a real obnoxious/uncontrolled beast when used on guitar and i think it probably needs a cv input for best use but i haven't figured that out yet

ledriver, Thursday, 19 June 2014 03:19 (nine years ago) link

not for public release right at the moment, but since i deindexed this, we just confirmed with Caroline.

nice!

EZ Snappin, Saturday, 21 June 2014 19:34 (nine years ago) link

ok, Old School FX stuff looks waaaaaaaay better in person. still clearly a "one dude in a garage slip decal" sort of vibe, but very clean work, lacquer over the decal etc. first impressions, everything is good to very good, standouts are the rootless tree, fat penguin and black lung, invisible robot is way weirder than expected, i think i kinda love it, but not the muff variant i was expecting, full of off harmonic whistles and a general impression of being just short of the breaking point. Miss Turpentine is not an earthshaking 2399 based delay, but sounds really pleasing on short settings (better than many) and noises up a bit on long settings, which i tend to like, but not everyone does.

added bonus: i hear absolutely zero tubescreamer in any of his overdrive stuff. the fat penguin is a snarly little 2 knobber, the rootless tree is a really surprisingly good sounding low gain od with a really nice tone circuit, and the black lung is chunky and mean-spirited, could def hit the non fuzz doom/stoner stuff sweet spot, which is something i dont hear as often as i should.

ok. another question. who wants to tell me about empress stuff?

i had their vintage superdelay, great sound, well made, seemed well thought out. i sold it because i found it increasingly less useful for synthesizers with all the racks i've been accumulating but i'd totes recommend it for guitars

bill nye mouth (electricsound), Wednesday, 25 June 2014 23:30 (nine years ago) link

yes, I'd like those pedals as well.

how's life, Monday, 30 June 2014 09:48 (nine years ago) link

as my pedal collection grows the battery + power supply situation is getting a bit messy, what's the best (cheapest) way to power multiple pedals?

Merdeyeux, Thursday, 3 July 2014 17:50 (nine years ago) link

one spot imo until you're ready for a brick

resulting post (rogermexico.), Thursday, 3 July 2014 17:51 (nine years ago) link

One spot works fine for me.

looks perfect, thanks!

Just became a dealer for Chase Bliss Audio, maker of the Warped Vinyl and wow you all need to track one of these down and try it.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Thursday, 3 July 2014 21:27 (nine years ago) link

Aw man, the Warped Vinyl is on the top of my "to check out" list.

I do have a conundrum to fix though before I introduce another element into this... Right now my effects line looks like this:

http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2912/14544992476_1f4f0fd463_z.jpg

The hangup I have is with the Whammy. I basically only use one setting on it - the harmonic and even then I only really use it in the octave up or down setting. Great warbly sound to it, especially when going through the reverbs, but doesn't have that cliched "shimmer" that everyone seems to be showing off right now. The downside is that it's a HUGE pedal. I like that one octave sound a lot, but have been dissatisfied with the few octave pedals I've tried. Any recommendations out there? Would love to sell the Whammy and recover some space.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 3 July 2014 22:13 (nine years ago) link

should mention that the octavers I tried are the MicroPOG and the Boss super octave (yuck). Curious about Foxrox Octron

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 3 July 2014 22:24 (nine years ago) link

ET is that an ampeg next to the vox? good taste in amps imo.

resulting post (rogermexico.), Friday, 4 July 2014 04:21 (nine years ago) link

Yah, it's an '62 Ampeg Reverb-O-Rocket 2. I fucking love that amp and have owned it for years. I've always maintained that Ampeg's blue diamond guitar amps are very underrated. The various Jets and Rockets are all dynamite and a steal in price compared to whatever the equivalent Deluxe Reverb is. I'll even vouch for the mid-90s reissues up to when Crate/Mackie or whoever the hell they are now bought the brand.

I had an early freakout about now being the sole guitarist in a band (plus hangup on not taking vintage gear to gigs) so I tracked down a Super Rocket 2x12. Even more underrated though I understand they're getting scarce now because one of the clods in Kings Of Leon plays through one.

The AC30 is the greatest guitar amp in the world.

Elvis Telecom, Friday, 4 July 2014 05:17 (nine years ago) link

I have a 66 jet that's not going anywhere unless the right 65 reverberocket shows up.

for years it sat next to an AC30 that I finally gave up a couple months back due to: i live in an apartment and band days aren't coming back and my gf moved in and damn that thing is big and heavy.

Guy just traded in a strymon flint and a loud button balls deep so I guess I finally get to hear what all the fuss is about myself

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Saturday, 5 July 2014 22:26 (nine years ago) link

Would love to hear input on Elvis Telecoms question. Thinking my next pedal purchase will be along those lines.

how's life, Saturday, 5 July 2014 22:43 (nine years ago) link

I'm still pretty sold on the micro pog/pog 2 side of things for clean octave gen. If you want warble, hard to beat the earthquaker organizer/pitch bay.

And in further uh oh maybe can't resist, this dude just contacted me:

Anybody ever touched one of these in real life?

The Frankensteins! I just want a pedal with that switch on it

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 00:35 (nine years ago) link

I want one of those Freakenstein's Dwarf pedals so you better get them.

Wonder if I could play the Igor pedal by clamping it in my mouth...

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 18:52 (nine years ago) link

oh by the way, guess who got brought in to do a pedal symposium at a guitar festival in saint paul

symposium is such a fancy way of saying "nerding out in front of a crowd re: pedals"

Aaron?

Just kidding. Hope you tape that shit!

just ordered all of the Hayden/Dr. Green pedals

― Wendy Carlos Williams (jjjusten), Friday, January 31, 2014 5:30 PM (5 months ago)

so not going to happen. pulled the order because those dudes can not get their distro together at fucking all. plus honestly i got less interested the more i listened to them

and in todays moment of blasphemy spent a bunch of time with the strymon flint we got in and uh. idgi. something in there hits my ear very very much in the wrong way. similar feel to the dispatch master like i mentioned upthread - cool to have both in a single box, neither side measures up to alternate stuff i have in stock (ok, the verbs are decent, but the trems are subpar. maybe im just spoiled, idk.) no offense to dudes that dig it, just does nothing for me.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 21:30 (nine years ago) link

and hey while we are on the subject, any vibes on the rockbox boiling point etc pedals?

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 21:31 (nine years ago) link

oh duh and also stone deaf:fx out of england, zero chance of hearing them w/o buying them in this part of the world, but that fig fumb has my curious

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 21:32 (nine years ago) link

I know you can't judge by youtube clips, but I really dislike the sweep sound on both the Fig Fumb and Trashy Blonde. I like the idea though.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 22:27 (nine years ago) link

However, by that same poor metric the PDF-1 is a really nice recreation of that Moog MPF-1 sound.

EZ Snappin, Tuesday, 8 July 2014 22:38 (nine years ago) link

strymon
idgi

feeling this

niamh 1073 (electricsound), Tuesday, 8 July 2014 22:46 (nine years ago) link

I can't help but hear the name Strymon in a cod-Jamaican accent. Earthquaker Afterneath Otherworldly Reverberator sounds completely nuts. A little heavyhanded on the naming side of things though.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 16 July 2014 21:07 (nine years ago) link

honestly John's store is one of the things I miss most about MN and a) I wasn't a guitar player when I was a kid, and b) I didn't spend that much time there growing up

Star Gentle Uterus (DJP), Wednesday, 16 July 2014 21:09 (nine years ago) link

Advice please. If you were looking to increase sustain, what pedal would you pick? Something like the Doctor Green's Life Support seems to look like a good effort, but I'm not sure about the autocompression. If heading down the compressor/sustainer route, is there anything to be gained beyond adjusting distortion pedals elsewhere in the chain?

Has anyone ever tried a Sustainiac?

Alex In Complete Agreement (aldo), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 15:33 (nine years ago) link

i dig opto compressors, do you have a mooer dealer in your area? the yellow comp is pretty awesome

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:19 (nine years ago) link

I have a nice MXR compressor pedal that I've never understood how to use properly.

also liking the tweakiness of the earthquaker warden

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:28 (nine years ago) link

xp to NA - is it the dynacomp? those things are pretty brick hammer effecty compressors, they do the sustain thing but are very audibly compressed.

Everyone is awful except you. Wait, no, you are also awful. (jjjusten), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:29 (nine years ago) link

It's the '76 vintage Dyna Comp, don't know if that's any better.

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:30 (nine years ago) link

Do compression pedals go at the beginning or end of the chain, generally?

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 23 July 2014 19:33 (nine years ago) link

placement is to taste and depends on your chain and what you're going for. I know of players who keep a comp on both ends (not nec both on at the same time)
