recently had a race on the route 68 track. after getting knocked around a few times i worked my way back into 2nd. after the last checkpoint i was neck and neck with the leader, who of course turned into me to bump me away from the finish. i innocently countersteered, which sent him spinning. i won, i think the guy came in 4th.

a couple minutes later i get a message: "scumbag". i was a little hurt.

also here's the most annoying thing on earth:

you're in a race lobby. the host flips it to rally. you grumble, but figure eh ok.

you realize that the lobby has an odd number of people, or someone quit during loading.

you're on the start line, in your car, alone. you wonder, how will this work?

after the start countdown, pop, you get a fail screen: "you must have two players to rally" or something. you're kicked out to a random lobby.

Last night I was doing one of the newer, wacky Trials-inspired races. I was the only person who finished the race. :)

The other night, after an hour or so of playing races, I spent a little while in Freemode and got trapped by some guy with a tank, who took glee in killing me, and then immediately rekilling me seconds after every respawn. It was late, and this seemed like a perfect signal to go to bed, so I signed off. Moments later, the guy with the tank messaged me, like, "Hahahaha RAGEQUIT!!!!!", and I felt like replying, you know, I didn't rage quit, but if you want people to play with you you probably shouldn't just bully them and make playing frustrating and not fun, a lesson I learned while in short trousers. But then I realised I would be arguing with a teenager - or, worse, someone as old as myself - and that this would be a self-defeating exchange.

I had a bounty on my head and was hiding out in one of the airport stairwells. This other guy came at me from all angles, and I was doing annoying stuff like shooting my gun in the hallway, getting a wanted level which in turn bring out the police to where the other guy was out waving his gun around.

He finally pauses for a bit and then leaves. I get this message from him that says "I have reported you for exploits." I reply with something like, "Exploits? Go up the stairs and through the door to find my exploit. Go back and commend me now."

That's about how heated it's gotten for me.

I do wonder if there's a different vibe between the two formats, XBL and PSN. Plenty of assholes playing this game on both sides, but in the whole scheme of things, are there any differences in age, income, etc.? Should be interesting to see what happens when it comes out on PS4 later this year.

See, I respect dudes who can multikill me armed with just a gun, or by sniping, or in a way that remains a mystery to me several kills in. Just mashing everyone because you've bought/stolen a tank - and repeatedly killing one dude who never at any point has any chance to defend themselves because you're in a tank - is just assholish.

I'm with you, and I'm so glad that the Hipster update makes 'em at least pay for insurance on everything.

pplains, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 12:33 (nine years ago) link

to this day i am most proud of multi-killing dudes from insane distance sniping (mostly by luck).

gbx, Wednesday, 18 June 2014 15:22 (nine years ago) link

I forgot to mention this! I sniped a guy on the runway of the LSIA from the roof of the docks over the BugBusters!

Not as bad-ass as your skyscraper scoping, but it was definitely one of those "I never thought this would happen to me, but..." moments.

yep. jobs was borked for a bit just now as well - 12 people joined for a 1-4 mission i was hosting, and it crashed, and after that you couldn't access jobs via the phone or the pause page for a while.

SPOILERS Ahoy

Was disappointed with the Chilliad story, after all that its just a ufo in the sky. What's with the fancy poster in the cable car station then?

So I checked it out on the web, seems nobody knows. Possible future dlc or just rockstar tease. I checked out the other ufo's and that one above the military base makes a horrific noise when it appears.

And lost the fucking ufo car already, I'm guessing it doesn't come back?

yeah in my completed save, franklin had it in his garage; i flipped to him last night to check out his personal car (the 1.14 update renamed it "Buffalo S") and it was gone :(

goole, Thursday, 19 June 2014 19:32 (nine years ago) link

Have you got the three man army achievement yet? get three star wanted level with all three characters together (not on a mission)

I flipped to Trevor recently to something I hadn't seen before, he was riding a moped on the highway with some other guy. For ages Trevor just kept repeating jives at the guy "Scooter Brother, hey Scooter Brother where are we going today?" haha

Are any of these new cars top of class?

That 6-wheel Dubsta is a mean, mean machine. Hit cars and they just go flying. An NPC got all mad at me and turned into a red O on the map. I turned around and flipped his car over where he promptly vanished into thin air.

Some pick-up truck full of red player s started shooting me as I went back to my apartment. I gunned the acceleration and just knocked them into the next block. With the armor on 100% and bulletproof tires, I circled around just to hit them again.

I drove that thing over a boulder. It is sick.

I wish there was a Super car that I actually liked.

polyphonic, Sunday, 22 June 2014 00:24 (nine years ago) link

So Rockstar put an option into everyone's garage to allow you to rearrange your cars. Welcome news for anyone that's ever had a Sandking right in front of their elevator or wanted to file everything by color.

It didn't take long though for a new glitch to be discovered to accompany this feature. It involves almost buying a new car and knocking over the tool box while your cellphone is open. I learned how to do it with a souped up motorcycle, but when I tried it with an Adder, I somehow flipped the damn thing over and killed myself, respawning over by the park where the pot guy is in the original game. Who knew a tool box could be so strong?

I had no idea Bati's could be so fun. All you have to do is pop a wheelie and you can pretty much drive over anything. I drove straight over the map from the Humane Labs to Chumash on one of those. Guardrail in your way? Pop a wheelie and whoosh, you're 20 feet in the air. Sports car coming toward you? Pop a wheelie and whoosh, you're 40 feet in the air. Sometimes while I'm hanging in the air, I'll hear this rattle sound. At first, I kept thinking someone was after me or my air-conditioning was acting weird, but I finally figured out that the sound was coming from my rims spinning around. This game.

Still play some missions, trying to gather up RP for my second character. The mission where you follow a helicopter with a dune buggy to a police encampment seems to be pretty popular now. I skip the dune buggies, get on the Bati, and fly through the air like a winged pegasus to a hillside overlooking the encampment where I snipe the devils before they even know I'm there. Nice break from the Rumble.

I was on one mission the other night where you have to steal vans from near the mining site and take them back to Lester's. I was on the Bati, one of my crewmembers hopped on as a passenger and I promptly drove us into a hail of 1.5 difficulty gunfire. The Canadian fella who hosts the missions (guessing by his accent) somehow ducked all that, grabbed a van and hightailed it back to the city while we were all spectating. Turned out, this was one of those missions where, no sir, you have to bring back all the vans to finish. Poor guy goes alway the way back to Blaine Co., goes through all the gunfire again and finally brings it to a close - earning all of us freeloaders some sweet RP as well.

("Sorry it took me so long," he said. -- another clue that he's Canadian.)

I haven't been playing so much lately. The other night, I was on and looked out the window. There were my kids in the backyard, catching fireflies, running around in the grass. Oh for god's sake, I shut the console off and joined them. Plenty of RP IRL too.

like, how? where?

goole, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 22:12 (nine years ago) link

speaking of batis, i once landed in an obstacle style race using motorcycles that was seriously insane. all over the city, using bounces off of steep curbs and retaining walls to launch up onto rooftops. all 68 checkpoints were used. no joke, i gave it 45 mins before throwing in the towel and i only got halfway thru.

goole, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 22:15 (nine years ago) link

speaking of Batis, it's a testament to the writing of these games that I didn't notice the joek in the name of that bike for 8 months. (Bati 801 = Bati BOI)

Skip to about :45. And buying the Rebel is only for being able to sell it over and over instead of once every hour. If you use a car off the street, you can still do the dupe.

Go online. Have some real fun

pplains, Friday, 27 June 2014 13:50 (nine years ago) link

I kid.

It's a little complicated to explain (I started the SP under one account, but created a new acct for MP, not realizing how PSN/PS3/Rockstar accounts work, so I've been having to sign in and out of accounts to go back and forth between SP/MP) - but just to keep from having to see Michael go Jimmy! every time I logged in, I started replaying the SP.

I've learned that I like to explore and ride around by myself, but play missions with other people. Invite Only sessions are my favorites.

(Unless I'm playing with my Ranked 127 guy with the tank and minigun. I can take a session of dozens with that guy.)

pplains, Friday, 27 June 2014 13:56 (nine years ago) link

Yeah I guess I should just reread the thread

Mainly worried about missing out on side missions and story forking and stuff like that

But from past experience GTA games are too on rails to let you miss out on anything the first time through

The only decision that really matters, other than the stock market stuff, is the last mission.

pplains, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:19 (nine years ago) link

Also, is that your ride?

pplains, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:20 (nine years ago) link

I don't think so!

Maybe somebody at Rockstar still loves you, Pleasant Plains

That's not my ride, I still don't know how the new garages work in GTA5, little flummoxed by the fact that driving a car into a garage doesn't auto-repair it

Still in single player mode, no PSN account

, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:22 (nine years ago) link

Have noticed that most cars seem decently fast now

Annoyed that when you're driving fast, spawned cars still seem to mirror the one you're driving, even if not the exact model

, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:23 (nine years ago) link

They don't get auto-repaired? I mean, they're fixed if you go off and be another character or start a saved game, right?

I don't know, I just drive Michael's tailgater since he's always sitting in it.

The spawning is maddening, especially if you find a "rare" car and then all of a sudden, everyone's driving one. It was helpful when I was looking for a four-door Felon. Found the two-door and then drove around for a minute before finding the four-door.

Not on PSN because of internet or what? I'm on PSN. Roberto Spirelli is like the only other PSN ILXor, and I've never seen him on there.

pplains, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:31 (nine years ago) link

Out of laziness, I guess

Hm, okay - I drove a car into that one garage to the east of Michael's house and it took me into a weird mechanic's garage that's supposed to be mine but idk why! It was scary in there so I left

Usually just take whatever car is parked in front of Michael/Franklin/Trevor's home

, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:34 (nine years ago) link

I mean, there really is no reason to store a car in Michael's garage - everybody around his hood drives a 6 liter V8

, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:34 (nine years ago) link

not to gtasplain but yeah each char has a 'character vehicle' that's always available where you are and doesn't need to be saved (franklin gets two, his car and motorcycle) if you mod those those mods stay on them. if you destroy it, i think it spawns again in its vanilla form

any other car you want to save and/or mod you need to store in that garage (4 spots) or it'll disappear if you leave it somewhere, flip to another. each character has a garage attached to his house for 1 more slot too

i never figured out how the 'impound' mechanic worked. if you drive a vehicle (not your personal) for a while and then leave it somewhere the cops sometimes pick it up.

goole, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:44 (nine years ago) link

also michael's wife's and daughter's cars can be modded up and those mods will 'stick' w/o storing too, interestingly enough. so it seems like the game keeps track of a few unique vehicles.

goole, Monday, 7 July 2014 15:45 (nine years ago) link

Okay, so if you mod Trevor's off road car and take it out, switch to another car & turn off the game, it'll spawn back at Trevors place w/ mods the next time you turn the game on?
