Yeh were being to hard on the yanks I mean it only took me 10 minutes to get the hang of it when i was 4 so we should give the average adult 22.72 years.

lolol well trust me on this, it isn't all that difficult, the trick is to chill out and let things reveal themselves, rather than demand to know everything at once, it's better to learn about it thru demonstration than thru theory imo

also cheers (ty) for that NFL thing!

ya i am a trial-and-error learner, ie. it's easier to learn playing than watching - are there cricket videogames?

Brian Lara on EA is considered the gold standard for cricket games, if I remember right.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

hahaha yes there are actually, Brian Lara Cricket has been a profitable series and EA Cricket has also had its moments (especially in '07)...I've only ever played BLC and it's probably about right for a beginner, good fun, doesn't require too much thought, very lucid about its gameplay.

there's also a cricket management sim, International Cricket Captain, but that's only really for ultras

lol @ Neil confusing EA and BLC

EA's heyday was '05 btw, I got that wrong

lol i have gotten into Football Manager, but cricket simming is too next level for me rn

boner state university (cankles), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:30 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe even '04, Metacritic is giving me conflicting signals here

lol xp true say, i wdnt expect anyone to cricket sim apart from total nuts like myself, and even i don't cricket sim no more

basically, give BLC a go, it's the clearest, funnest and most arcadey of all the respectable ones

Yeah you got me! I assumed EA's franchise was Brian Lara, like Madden for American Football.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

is Madden available over there? i'll use that as my barometer of whether or not there's a NA vers of cricket games

boner state university (cankles), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:40 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah Madden's available here, I know a few ppl who play it

this Coach Stilo thing is pretty entertaining fwiw

240 to win from 66 overs. In other words, Windies will be playing for a draw.

So much for tempting them with the prospect of a win.

Free the Northampton 1 (Tom D.), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

xp I was playing Madden '94 on the SNES, back in the day.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:46 (fifteen years ago) link

Tom it doesnt make a difference, the WI will not be bowled out no matter how much the WI are set.

there was no sense in handing them an easy win, thats all it would have done.

So play long enough for KP to improve his batting average then?

Free the Northampton 1 (Tom D.), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:49 (fifteen years ago) link

10 wickets wont have fallen even in 200 overs

why did you want england to hand the WI an easy win? the series hasnt been lost in this game

Yes, well done, England, excellent loss of a series there, you can hold your heads up high and no mistake

Free the Northampton 1 (Tom D.), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Englands collapse came in this series when defending btw. so the whole dangle a carrot thing is the only way to win is bullshit. It's to bowl well and create pressure. There cant be any pressure if the batsmen are given an easy target as a "carrot". its fucking stupid talk.

Losers

Get one of Sarwan or Chanderpaul and we have a real chance.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Chanderpaul is like a wall though, he'll make 26 not out of 134 balls :(

jel --, Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Needs a bit of the old chin music IMO.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:33 (fifteen years ago) link

ohh i think sarwan is out
