Hart is fucking insane

ogmor, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:42 (nine years ago) link

There are a number of players who are always referred to by their full name, some are explainable, like 'Joe Cole' is a lack of vowels. I also have friends who are always referred to by their full name, it's weird.

ewar woowar (or something), Monday, 16 June 2014 14:57 (nine years ago) link

Some names just sound better when you say both names

, Monday, 16 June 2014 14:57 (nine years ago) link

why does hart kick the boards? he full on kicks the shit out of them. what's that gonna do?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 16 June 2014 15:01 (nine years ago) link

I didn't mean vowels I meant syllables. Xxp

excellent post ogmor

pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:09 (nine years ago) link

I'd add Valbuena to Dos Santos and Candreva as players who have drifted laterally to good effect (admittedly vs the worst team of the tournament so far)

pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:14 (nine years ago) link

that post should have read - "In 2010 there were also some narrow teams..." - in case it's not clear, and "quite some fairly shit goalkeeping" doesn't make much sense either but idk, I can barely form thoughts, no shame

ogmor, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:17 (nine years ago) link

on subject of names. was looking for the name of the brazilian who they were calling one name in the commentary but who had an entirely different name on the back of his shirt, something english and old fashioned iirc

but the i found this:

xxp france seem quite fluid in general, but I haven't seen them play for a while so I'm not sure how much of that was the honduras effect. interested to see how mikel does against iran today or what the nigerian midfield does in general

ogmor, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:22 (nine years ago) link

xp you might be thinking of wilfried bony for cote d'ivoire who had b. wilfried. altho that does happen fairly often so just as likely someone else i don't recall.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:24 (nine years ago) link

bernard and fred both have those names on their shirt iirc

ogmor, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:29 (nine years ago) link

Germany v Portugal

Germany starting XI: Neuer, Boateng, Hummels, Mertesacker, Howedes, Lahm (c), Khedira, Ozil, Muller, Kroos, Gotze.

Portugal starting XI: Patricio, Alves, Pepe, Veloso, Coentrao, Ronaldo (c), Moutinho, Almeida, Meireles, Nani, Pereira.

Germany 4 CB's and a false 9. Oh brother.

gonna be dancing round a non existent beanpole seeking bounty

dn/ac (darraghmac), Monday, 16 June 2014 15:31 (nine years ago) link

I Schweinsteiger unfit or was Lahm always gonna play MF regardless I wonder? Might be an idea when up against the best left sided forward in the world to play the best right back in the world in position to combat him.

pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:32 (nine years ago) link

No Postiga? Not sure I've ever seen Portugal without Postiga and that including news footage from '66.

pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:33 (nine years ago) link

You are suffering from Postalgia, that's what they call it

maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Monday, 16 June 2014 15:34 (nine years ago) link

OK guys, I am watching Adrian Chiles thanks to VPN and this shit is still way better than ESPN. Adrian Chiles! Seriously, you don't realize how good you have it. There's actually a few nuggets of half-intelligent football talk here, every 5 mins or so.

ogmor, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:52 (nine years ago) link

pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:56 (nine years ago) link

> columbian player james rodriguez?

i think it was, yes. they were calling him rodriguez when he had plain old 'james' on the back.

koogs, Monday, 16 June 2014 15:57 (nine years ago) link

maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Monday, 16 June 2014 15:58 (nine years ago) link

dn/ac (darraghmac), Monday, 16 June 2014 16:12 (nine years ago) link

just one game goalless at the half so far and that was the mexico game where they scored twice but had both incorrectly ruled out. Nuts game, nuts tournament.

pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 16:13 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, it's unlikely this game stays at 1 - 0

Popture, Monday, 16 June 2014 16:14 (nine years ago) link

if the remaining 75 mins is played like this it'll be 10-8 with only Mani left on the field

dn/ac (darraghmac), Monday, 16 June 2014 16:15 (nine years ago) link

Has anyone ever won back to back Golden Boot's?

pandemic, Monday, 16 June 2014 16:19 (nine years ago) link

This ref seems to be getting the calls right.
