The thing with Aurier was that being fed a diet of Glen Johnson cut-in-and-thwack-it-off-first-defender/over-the-bar it was nice to see a right back with some end product.

*mostly for Liverpool, doesn't even get that far for England.

ewar woowar (or something), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:21 (nine years ago) link

tragically bad marking

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:22 (nine years ago) link

Entirely deserved

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:22 (nine years ago) link

Piss poor marking there.

Daniwa, guys! Daniwa! (aldo), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:22 (nine years ago) link

Dawning on me that every team in the world can't defend set-pieces.

ewar woowar (or something), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:22 (nine years ago) link

maybe want to pick him up there lads

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:22 (nine years ago) link

really? haven't been impressed with either team so far

xp

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:23 (nine years ago) link

lol at that ridiculous corner kick

Jibe, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:25 (nine years ago) link

almost as bad as the rooney corner there

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:25 (nine years ago) link

god i hate it when teams do that two man shit at the corner flag

Jibe, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:26 (nine years ago) link

like it never leads to anything good right?

Jibe, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:26 (nine years ago) link

unless it's a fake corner then it's v v cool

Just found out the shaving cream stuff is known as "vanishing spray"- brand name "915 Fair Play"- and was invented in Argentina.

That's How Strong My Dub Is (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:27 (nine years ago) link

that spray thing is great, i saw it being used in games in mexico and wondered why the same thing wasn't done in europe? though lol at the ecuadorian free kick taker who purposefully placed his ball outside themark the ref had made, lol too at the swiss guy in the wall who was trying to get the ref's attention to show him the bll wasn't in the right spot.

Jibe, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:30 (nine years ago) link

I hadn't known about the tactic of the wall inching forward inch by inch

Really love the visual image of a bunch of footballers in practice standing in a wall and practicing the Inch Forward Shuffle

, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:37 (nine years ago) link

lol too at the swiss guy in the wall who was trying to get the ref's attention to show him the bll wasn't in the right spot.
yeah, exactly

That's How Strong My Dub Is (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:38 (nine years ago) link

That's why they take them short then.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:38 (nine years ago) link

are you allowed to move a free kick ball outside of the ref's spot, or was that legit?

Sufjan Grafton, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:40 (nine years ago) link

what a horribly phrased question

Sufjan Grafton, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:41 (nine years ago) link

FFS put rodriguez on set plays already

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:41 (nine years ago) link

Clark Carlisle is complaining that Jackson Martinez can't make it into the Ecuador team haha.

cajunsunday, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:42 (nine years ago) link

Mainly cos he's columbian i guess

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:42 (nine years ago) link

but clarke makes a valid point nonetheless

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:43 (nine years ago) link

SG - usually you get a little leeway in where you place the ball from a free kick yes

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:44 (nine years ago) link

ty

Sufjan Grafton, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:44 (nine years ago) link

as long as it's within a yard or so

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:44 (nine years ago) link

so in that case the shaving cream serves to indicate the center of the 1-yard radius circle.

That's How Strong My Dub Is (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:48 (nine years ago) link

They don't use the spray in Europe so most players used to taking most free kicks from roughly the correct position and the refs are used to this. I'd guess the Swiss player was just being pissy when protesting before the kick was taken rather than actually being affronted.

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:51 (nine years ago) link

yeah, lichtsteiner has frequently been pissy in this match

Sufjan Grafton, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:53 (nine years ago) link

I think whether or not someone is taking the piss w/ their ball placement is referee's discretion. lichtsteiner has done more than his share of work, fair enough if he's irked

ogmor, Sunday, 15 June 2014 16:57 (nine years ago) link

mehmedi is a useful dribbler if not finisher iirc

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:03 (nine years ago) link

Finished that OK.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:04 (nine years ago) link

well then again

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:04 (nine years ago) link

told you they should put rodriguez on set plays

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:04 (nine years ago) link

might wanna pick him up there lads

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:04 (nine years ago) link

it looked like he was complaining during the Ecuador throw in, got caught off guard, and then gave them a free kick that ultimately result in a goal as the result of being caught off guard.

Sufjan Grafton, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:08 (nine years ago) link

lol at them doing their bullshit with the ref's marks again

Jibe, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:08 (nine years ago) link

ecu have woken up again after that goal

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:11 (nine years ago) link

Not 100 per cent sure but I think Zokora had his wife's face tattooed on his chest and the weird eyeball thing is what he turned it in to when he got divorced.

Wristy Hurlington (ShariVari), Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:14 (nine years ago) link

Hey I joined the McDonald's fantasy league but it seems I was kicked out (or it was dissolved?). Can I rejoin?

Frobisher, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:15 (nine years ago) link

strobe glasses?? i've heard it all now.

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:18 (nine years ago) link

disco glasses !!!

Jibe, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:19 (nine years ago) link

do they dangle a mirrorball from the crossbar as well in training?

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:21 (nine years ago) link

gotta love the idea of giving yourself seizures during practice so you'll be more focused in game (that may not be how those glasses work but that's def how i picture them to work)

Jibe, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:21 (nine years ago) link

Montero has been so dangerous

pandemic, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:22 (nine years ago) link

nm it appears I'm still in the league, mcdonalds links just be fucked up.

Frobisher, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:22 (nine years ago) link

SV that might be the greatest possible explanation, I hope it's true. he has a new wife now!

lichtsteiner getting fwd was one of v few semi-promising bits of build up from switzerland. shaqiri has been below par but still hold out hope he's warming up. drmic & stocker offered v little

ogmor, Sunday, 15 June 2014 17:25 (nine years ago) link

did it defo come off a swiss player?
