Worse the pitch better for England.

I just heard otherwise, but maybe they lied

I know I overuse this word but this World Cup is an absolute humdinger so far.

Uruguay lame, played like a Premiership team underestimating the opposition completely.

Suspicious lack of goalkeepers moaning about the ball this year. Thought Joe Hart would at least have got his disclaimers in early.

Matt DC, Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:12 (nine years ago) link

Giles given it a bit of scorn at the idea that this was a young/daring selection but
sterling
Sturbridge
welbeck
Henderson

like they're the type of calls you'd like to see after what seems like a lifetime of squads unchanged regardless of utter failure to perform

dn/ac (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:13 (nine years ago) link

Joe hart hasn't been on dis claimer

dn/ac (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:13 (nine years ago) link

i'd prefer Welbeck replaced with a footballer maybe

Yea me too tbh

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:16 (nine years ago) link

Welbeck aside this is more or less what i'd start from that squad but i still think centre mid looks tissue-y and agree with Michael B that Milner's probably getting a raw deal

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:17 (nine years ago) link

Don't know why you people fixate on Welbeck. Rooney is the problem

Number None, Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:18 (nine years ago) link

Gerrard and Milner woulda made a nice defensive mid pairing

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:18 (nine years ago) link

There's Pirlo, obv. Always Pirlo. But I am rooting for youse Britishers tonight too (must be drunk tbh)

i'm rooting for Pirlo tbh

Naamloze vennootschap (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:19 (nine years ago) link

Be fine if Italy and Costa Rica go through w/Pirlo fucking 'our boys' one last time.

Probably get the boring 0-0 instead.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:21 (nine years ago) link

Which is exactly why I am rooting for England! To see your deep cynicism being torn apart by success, to see rays of sunlight, rainbows and unicorns shooting from the cavity that is your English chest!

Xp

Hope I'm wrong, loving the wc so far.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:23 (nine years ago) link

I'm rooting for England cos it's a young team, maaaybe get some nice football and the Liverpool lads. Also no Terry or Ashley Cole

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:23 (nine years ago) link

And ditto wot LBI said

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:24 (nine years ago) link

Sometimes I wonder if some of those Uruguay players are too good lookimg. Like, looking like Cavani must breed some type of complacency, no?

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:24 (nine years ago) link

Too much golden gen dead wood about, sorry.

Number None, Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:26 (nine years ago) link

I wouldn't usually mind about this one but, well, if Rickie comes on... my lips may wobble a wee bit.

William Bloody Swygart, Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:27 (nine years ago) link

Fuck, I wasted a tenner on betting Spain would thrash us 4-0, everyone here thought we'd get hammered. And then suddenly: 1-5. Still can't believe it. Best tenner I every pissed away. So stupidly satisfying. All you scared bastards thinking a 0-0 would be a 'result': fuck that. This is the WC and it can happen yo.

yeah OK welbeck is far from a daring nor even good choice but I mean capello there's a danger he'd still have Beckham there or w/e

dn/ac (darraghmac), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:28 (nine years ago) link

His whole look is out of a romance novel cover

never have i been a blue calm sea (collardio gelatinous), Saturday, 14 June 2014 21:28 (nine years ago) link

Ooh, that red stripe down the back of the training top was not designed to appear over the shorts... eep. Shades of Stevenage's wedgie-kit from two or three seasons ago.

Robben's rush yesterday, outpacing Ramos, makes him the fastest football player ever recorded on the pitch, with 37 km/h. Previous record was held by Walcott (35.7 km/h). Though I'm not sure if Bale was taken into account in these stats.

Unsure if the Italy cagoules are some elaborate psyching-out tactic or just a legit bad idea.
