Watched this with my total novice housemate, think she's sold on watching the rest of the tournament with me. Like, I'm drunk and I have no critical distance yet, but I have little doubt that was the best international game I've seen in my lifetime, from a purely dramatic revenge-fantasy perspective if nothing else. Spain just lost 5-1 to Holland fuuuucking whaaaaaaaat

Van Persie first and both Robben goals were sick

Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:00 (nine years ago) link

torres made that an officially official classic

r|t|c, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:01 (nine years ago) link

at first I was bummed that spain were tanking but then it became hilarious and crazy

I wish I was drunk :(

Spain winning wc now.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:10 (nine years ago) link

Can't wait for spa-chile on wed.

And if Spain get through they'll play Brazil.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:11 (nine years ago) link

I am glad I am drunk.

Maurice Malpas Holiday Jotter Blues (onimo), Friday, 13 June 2014 21:12 (nine years ago) link

3rd goal a bit of a bummer, but damn, the rest. Crazy. Who insures Robben's left foot/leg? Quite a policy. Absolutely magical.

andrew m., Friday, 13 June 2014 21:14 (nine years ago) link

Dream scenario now is Australia lose to Chile then somehow draw with Holland (it is absolutely within Holland's capabilities to do this), with Spain beating Chile so the final set of games hinges on MILE JEDINAK: KINGMAKER OF KINGMAKERS.

(super-dream scenario: Jedinak takes to the field against Spain on An Actual Horse)

William Bloody Swygart, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:19 (nine years ago) link

I'm drunk and dr morbius is here so I'm basically living the dream

caek, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:29 (nine years ago) link

dr morbius is watching football, this day is truly bizarre. i put a fiver on spain to win the world cup at 6 to 1 earlier today (and another fiver on uruguay at 33 to 1), im sure the odds have flown up now

everyday sheeple (Michael B), Friday, 13 June 2014 21:31 (nine years ago) link

Spain currently still around 10/1 to win the tournament.

That game really pulled me in - stoked now for Chile vs Aus. Hoping I'm not too drunk I miss the end - still working on pacing myself here.

Maurice Malpas Holiday Jotter Blues (onimo), Friday, 13 June 2014 21:47 (nine years ago) link

haha was just having exactly the same thoughts Onimo, I'm teetering, if i'm not careful this next game is just gonna be a 20 minute blur followed by a long kip. hyped though. apologies to any ilx socceroos but I hope that Chile smash this

Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:50 (nine years ago) link

tho having said that, today is friday 13th and clearly backwards day in football, would not be surprised to see a Tim Cahill hattrick

Windsor Davies, Friday, 13 June 2014 21:50 (nine years ago) link

Cahill invoking the spirit of Chumbawumba.

Maurice Malpas Holiday Jotter Blues (onimo), Friday, 13 June 2014 21:52 (nine years ago) link

Lol

Vidal to be glorious I hope.
