caek, Friday, 13 June 2014 17:49 (nine years ago) link

i'm going to get coffee and check black forest. if it's crazy busy then i'll watch spain netherlands at the great georgiana, which was v civilized yesterday. will post back.

but yes, i'll be watching at least the 3pm game somewhere in ft g, maybe also australia/chile, although that has the ring of an appalling game to me.

caek, Friday, 13 June 2014 17:50 (nine years ago) link

adam post here or drop me a line on fb when you're here!

caek, Friday, 13 June 2014 17:56 (nine years ago) link

(maybe) (admrl), Friday, 13 June 2014 17:59 (nine years ago) link

Ugggghhh I wanted to get out for the 3pm but I'm not done with this project yet and I feel like crap, think I'm in. Cheer for Mexico for me.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 13 June 2014 17:59 (nine years ago) link

so you guys all had rough nights last night huh?

chinavision!, Friday, 13 June 2014 18:02 (nine years ago) link

In the sense that I didn't start my newsletter until like 8pm and then someone came over to be interviewed which took another hour, and I stayed up until 4 transcribing that and writing copy.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 13 June 2014 18:15 (nine years ago) link

Mexico finished a while ago! Spain Netherlands at 3. Still getting going so not sure about venue for that yet. I think the owners at great g are Australian so if I watch the 6p game it will be there.

caek, Friday, 13 June 2014 18:17 (nine years ago) link

Sounds good tbh.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 13 June 2014 18:26 (nine years ago) link

xxpost ah whoops I was sort of hoping that everyone's rough nights were more drinky.

chinavision!, Friday, 13 June 2014 18:28 (nine years ago) link

Black Forest fine and not too busy but kinda $$$ for someone not drinking so am going to great g. All welcome. #liveblog

I'm staying in Chelsea Tuesday-Thursday and I literally have not been to that neighborhood in close to 15 years. But I chose it as it's close to Penn Station and I found a cheap airbnb. Is there anywhere that isn't exorbitantly expensive to eat around there? I wanna eat some interesting food when I get in, probably on the late side, and nowhere where I will feel weird eating alone.

Also looking for recommendations for art spaces to check out, not museums or commercial galleries, I know about those.

Oh and I suppose somewhere to watch the fucking world cup

izakaya ten at 10th and 23rd is set up for solo diners and happy hour is v cheap, but it finishes early so no good for your arrival

caek, Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:06 (nine years ago) link

maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:07 (nine years ago) link

USA game on thursday noon?

caek, Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:07 (nine years ago) link

yeah izakaya is good i recommend it, they put like an entire stick of butter on the cod

caek, Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:08 (nine years ago) link

Can anyone show me a Southern Thai restaurant?

xp-yeah I could maybe do USA game, or some of it. I'm leaving late that day and trying to cram in all the food/culture I can before I wander back into the deep woods.

maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:09 (nine years ago) link

maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:09 (nine years ago) link

caek, Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:42 (nine years ago) link

OK let's just talk about transcendent food experiences we've had in any of the five boroughs. I'm prepared to travel

maybe/whatever/so what/boring (admrl), Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:44 (nine years ago) link

Mission chinese would be fun and punchy and you wouldn't need any special guidance

, Sunday, 22 June 2014 20:45 (nine years ago) link

I guess another transcendent food experience would be sushi - Sushi Yasuda, for example, and obviously very conducive to dining alone

There's one in the UES that I haven't been to but my friend says is good, catch is you have to travel there and write your name down for the res, they don't take phone ones

Expensive though, probably minimum of $50

, Sunday, 22 June 2014 21:23 (nine years ago) link

Not remotely transcendent, but if you're getting in really late, and depending where exactly near Penn Station you are, Skylight Diner on 34th @ 9th is a totally passable all-night place. Nothing special but it's not gross and it's not exorbitant. French onion soup's aight.

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 22 June 2014 23:31 (nine years ago) link

koreatown is up around 33rd and directly east of penn station. there are lots and lots of great places to eat there if that's yr thing.

everybody loves lana del raymond (s.clover), Monday, 23 June 2014 00:00 (nine years ago) link

The most transcendent food experiences (that also won't be too expensive) are in Flushing tbh

But nobody will ever go there
