so the usga essentially admits that they put the three fattest golfers in a group together for lols.

I think the course looks really cool.

one month passes...

Should be an exciting days Golf. The Open can be really boring in good weather but the conditions mean this might be fun today.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 19 July 2014 09:43 (nine years ago) link

wtf fowler only w orange piping on his slacks, youve forsaken me u bland sellout, bettr come back 2morrow w some blindingly electric shit

johnny crunch, Saturday, 19 July 2014 13:37 (nine years ago) link

do they always tee off so "early" on the weekends? they didn't end until 1pm EST yesterday.

you can't put your arms around a lamprey (brownie), Saturday, 19 July 2014 14:13 (nine years ago) link

they had split tees today because of the expected bad weather, which hasn't really materialised

Number None, Saturday, 19 July 2014 14:41 (nine years ago) link

ah, thanks

Not a single four on Rory's back nine.

a curious shade of pale (onimo), Saturday, 19 July 2014 14:52 (nine years ago) link

I was looking at Fowler's cap.

Both he and Johnson disintegrated at key periods. Rory hung on and got stronger. Pleasure to see.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 19 July 2014 17:50 (nine years ago) link

This was over by the time I got up today. Disappointing.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Saturday, 19 July 2014 19:57 (nine years ago) link

There were storms just 30 mins after the players came off...fairways flooded, so sports admins have NOT fucked up for a change.

The BBC commentary (awful as usual) should've been more clear with the forecast and the decision. They were talking as if the forecast was for rain during play, but it appears to have been for localised flooding later on.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 20 July 2014 10:19 (nine years ago) link

Rory starting to choke now

groovemaaan, Sunday, 20 July 2014 15:02 (nine years ago) link

Couple of bogeys were followed by solid pars and that birdie at the 9th. Always in control. Very, very impressive. Easily beat all the European records now.

I think Fowler made four consecutive 60s and didn't win?

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 20 July 2014 19:19 (nine years ago) link

fowler got reeeeeeeal funny looking huh

blap setter (darraghmac), Sunday, 20 July 2014 19:23 (nine years ago) link

Can't get over how 'wide' Fowler's cap is?

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 20 July 2014 19:38 (nine years ago) link

Sorry I should stop putting question marks at the end of my posts.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 20 July 2014 19:38 (nine years ago) link

Fowler with two consecutive major runner ups. Should break through at some point, as long as he doesn't get Duval-itis

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Monday, 21 July 2014 04:08 (nine years ago) link

Think so too - way too consistent. Enjoyed watching him.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 21 July 2014 09:06 (nine years ago) link

They were talking about this on the call-in station yesterday:

http://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/dustin-johnson-suspended-pga-tour-after-positive-test-cocaine (story)

http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/golf/pga-tour-insists-that-dustin-johnson-is-not-suspended-1.1886215 (denial--same old drill)

I don't know much about him, except that he's tall, hits the ball long, and has often been on the leader boards the past few years.

clemenza, Sunday, 3 August 2014 01:40 (nine years ago) link

i turned this on to hear feherty say "he has a superb and rhythmic long stroke.."

johnny crunch, Friday, 8 August 2014 22:38 (nine years ago) link

lol

Johnny Fever, Friday, 8 August 2014 22:41 (nine years ago) link

he was literally talking abt john daly btw

johnny crunch, Friday, 8 August 2014 22:47 (nine years ago) link

I think this is the same guy who's been writing similar articles about Tiger the past few years, whenever he'd have a good Friday or Saturday round at a major:

http://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/rory-mcilroy-surges-pga-championship-lead-second-round-67

McIlroy's got a one-stroke lead! Favourite, yes, but that's ridiculous. Does his short-term memory only extend as far back as whatever the last major was? (I know writers aren't responsible for their headlines, but his very first paragraph makes the same point.)

clemenza, Saturday, 9 August 2014 13:53 (nine years ago) link

For a one hour stretch this afternoon this was one of the most exciting things I've ever seen. Anybody can win tomorrow, it could be fireworks

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Sunday, 10 August 2014 04:09 (nine years ago) link

Mc Ilroy hasn't missed a putt since the Masters. The guy literally doesn't miss putts.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Sunday, 10 August 2014 04:10 (nine years ago) link

Rory scrapped away and still ended up in the lead. His bad round, not sure he'll repeat that today.

Should be a cracker.

Can people stop writing about Woods?! He is shit now. k tx bye.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 10 August 2014 08:16 (nine years ago) link

amazing final round going on here. Rory's 280 yard line drive 3-wood was :-0

shower cretin (brownie), Sunday, 10 August 2014 23:01 (nine years ago) link

i really hope they can finish today.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 10 August 2014 23:16 (nine years ago) link

Bizarre finish. I think Mickelson probably has a right to be upset, but he'll have to grin and bear it or look bad.

clemenza, Monday, 11 August 2014 00:45 (nine years ago) link

Some great golf though: Rory off the tee, Mickelson's chipping, Fowler's shot at 16 from the other fairway.

clemenza, Monday, 11 August 2014 00:47 (nine years ago) link

Unbelievable tournament. Best I've seen in ages.

Prince Kajuku (Bill Magill), Monday, 11 August 2014 02:30 (nine years ago) link

over here we're still just tryin to nail him to a tadhg/prod or Brit/paddy mast, which seems a pity but not untypical

Come and Heave a Ho (darraghmac), Monday, 11 August 2014 07:35 (nine years ago) link

Listening to the radio till the end at round 1:30am, really exciting finish. Again Rory stayed strong while others faded.

Sentence is awful but I just want to check: I don't think the British Isles have ever come up with a 'world beater' quite like this in almost any sport with a global-like reach? Both in individual sports or national teams.

xyzzzz__, Monday, 11 August 2014 09:05 (nine years ago) link

I'd offer Roy keane, idk bout global reach of their categories but Sonia o Sullivan, Michelle smith lol and Katie Taylor dominated their fields globally, Brian o Driscoll is an all-timer certainly.

brits'll have their own ideas, but rly idk its hard to define the criteria there.

I think i heard he's a Catholic, and had an uncle who got murdered when he tried to move into a Protestant neighborhood. He seems to stay away from discussions of that sort of thing

rather the point is that he said NI first then hinted GB for Olympics but golf is administered on an all island basis also he seems to have a can't I just play golf and be from NI pls approach which IMO is otm

Come and Heave a Ho (darraghmac), Monday, 11 August 2014 16:43 (nine years ago) link

The best part of breaking up is getting your golf game together.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2159303-rory-mcilroy-says-breakup-with-caroline-wozniacki-has-helped-his-golf-game?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial&hpt=hp_c3

Seinfeld had an episode about this. George learned to speak Portuguese and understand absolute zero. (Regardless of how true it is, I don't think this claim is necessarily going to go over well.)
