9-57 and I didn't have to look that up.

I remember the day like it was yesterday, and ran and told my dad that Devon was destroying them. It was awesome, probably my favourite sporting moment. (knew it was 9-57, was just setting the bench higher!)

I'm trying to think of an equivalent! Obvs the Gary Pratt run-out is the single greatest moment in post-millennial English cricket.

Probably Trescothick's utterly insane 87 off about 50 in an ODI against Pakistan. I let a lot of people know about that one.

Hmm.

That ball that Ashley Giles bowled Brian Lara with was special.

(Must get Sky this summer, another cricketless summer is too depressing to contemplate)

jel --, Monday, 9 March 2009 22:14 (fifteen years ago) link

Mainly coz it was Ashley Giles, and kinda WTF?

jel --, Monday, 9 March 2009 22:15 (fifteen years ago) link

He did the same to Damien Martyn AND Chris Cairns

I wish we had fred. we'd be 2-1 up

I'm pretty sure he's never going to be fit enough to play a whole series again.

If the WI get KP out watch their celebrations, they will celebrate like they have won.

...and then Prior will marmalise that 80-ball 100 I was talking about

If England dont get bowled out chasing runs, what should they declare at? 170? 200? remember if you score too many , the WI will just defend and get an easy draw.

I suppose Eng might want 2 overs before lunch

Since Gayle bowled last night he better not be allowed a runner

If England dont get bowled out chasing runs, what should they declare at? 170? 200?

The lower the better. Let's see what Strauss is made of.

Declaring early is only ok if you get gayle out quick. He could knock a small target off himself

colly out

it's priortime!

So they lose, who cares? Better than drawing.

Free the Northampton 1 (Tom D.), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 14:21 (fifteen years ago) link

no point in bringing it forward. set a decent tsrget not an easy one

also the bigger the total the longer the fielders can stay in close

England going well!

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 15:01 (fifteen years ago) link

infact if the WI were to collapse it would be to pressure. So how the fuck could there be pressure built if they have a low score and plenty of overs left to chase? It would be fucking stupid.

Gayles gone off the field, i think he's doing it so he can say hes injured again so he can get a runner for batting. Cheating cunt.

but he had an injury before this innings and he bowled so england should object if he requests one.

and this time wasting is worse than in football

Needs a lie down, he broke 2mph earlier today (xp)

Free the Northampton 1 (Tom D.), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 15:19 (fifteen years ago) link

If England declare before lunch they lose 2 overs to bowl. If they bat to lunch and declare they get the full allotment

the pitch hasnt done anything today so im guessing thats a consideration. if it had been misbehavng they woulda declared. God i wish fred and harmison were there bending their backs trying to bowl 90mph. Thats the only way to get wkts

hey LJ u posted a cricket picture fairly recently, like a diagram explaining the fielding positions and whatnot, for americans, can u post that again

Yeh were being to hard on the yanks I mean it only took me 10 minutes to get the hang of it when i was 4 so we should give the average adult 22.72 years.

boner state university (cankles), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:14 (fifteen years ago) link

lolol well trust me on this, it isn't all that difficult, the trick is to chill out and let things reveal themselves, rather than demand to know everything at once, it's better to learn about it thru demonstration than thru theory imo

also cheers (ty) for that NFL thing!

ya i am a trial-and-error learner, ie. it's easier to learn playing than watching - are there cricket videogames?

boner state university (cankles), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:24 (fifteen years ago) link

Brian Lara on EA is considered the gold standard for cricket games, if I remember right.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago) link

hahaha yes there are actually, Brian Lara Cricket has been a profitable series and EA Cricket has also had its moments (especially in '07)...I've only ever played BLC and it's probably about right for a beginner, good fun, doesn't require too much thought, very lucid about its gameplay.

there's also a cricket management sim, International Cricket Captain, but that's only really for ultras

lol @ Neil confusing EA and BLC

EA's heyday was '05 btw, I got that wrong

This is the day when fisticuffs happened everywhere (country matters), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

lol i have gotten into Football Manager, but cricket simming is too next level for me rn

boner state university (cankles), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:30 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe even '04, Metacritic is giving me conflicting signals here

lol xp true say, i wdnt expect anyone to cricket sim apart from total nuts like myself, and even i don't cricket sim no more

This is the day when fisticuffs happened everywhere (country matters), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:31 (fifteen years ago) link

basically, give BLC a go, it's the clearest, funnest and most arcadey of all the respectable ones

This is the day when fisticuffs happened everywhere (country matters), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:32 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah you got me! I assumed EA's franchise was Brian Lara, like Madden for American Football.

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:35 (fifteen years ago) link

is Madden available over there? i'll use that as my barometer of whether or not there's a NA vers of cricket games

boner state university (cankles), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:40 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah Madden's available here, I know a few ppl who play it

this Coach Stilo thing is pretty entertaining fwiw

240 to win from 66 overs. In other words, Windies will be playing for a draw.

Free the Northampton 1 (Tom D.), Tuesday, 10 March 2009 16:45 (fifteen years ago) link

So much for tempting them with the prospect of a win.
