I don't get No Doubt but "A Simple Kind of Life" is nice. Wish it were on this list.

Voted for -- god -- Weezer.

Weezer has several surprisingly good '00s singles imo but def not "Hash Pipe"

Photograph, Simple Pages, Keep Fishin' are my favorites from the (first?) Weezer comeback era.

If we're going to talk 'ridiculous Creed CGI videos' there really is only one, the big heavy single from the closest they have to a New Jersey:

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 16:57 (nine years ago) link

Only thing preventing Weathered from being a true New Jersey is the fact that they broke up after the touring cycle and didn't record another album for 7 years.

intheblanks, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 17:06 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Also nobody would remember even the biggest single even if prompted. Might actually be a Fairweather Johnson, I dunno.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 17:10 (nine years ago) link

i totally remember what "my sacrifice" and "one last breath" sound like, unfortunately

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 17:11 (nine years ago) link

Oh yeah true, I kinda lumped that in with the previous record by mistake! To be fair, Human Clay singles campaign took a smooth handoff from My Own Prison lineup - basically just felt like one continuous three-year period of Creed being a gigantic rock band, and then just...going away.

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 17:12 (nine years ago) link

Dear God, that "Bullets" video... imagine if the full-length Creed video game had actually seen the light of day.

Frontier Psychiatrist, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 17:13 (nine years ago) link

Yeah, but it still sold 6.5 million, which is a pretty big number and more than half its predecessor. It's hard for me to classify it as a Fairweather Johnson, which sold less than 20% of what Cracked Rear View did.

intheblanks, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 17:13 (nine years ago) link

@Doctor Casino that's why I've always liked the N.O.R.E. line about how he's going to "sell more records than Creed." It's such an effective timestamp on "Nothin.'"

Photograph, Simple Pages, Keep Fishin' are my favorites from the (first?) Weezer comeback era.

I enjoy a decent amount of Weezer's post-comeback output (still dig "Hash Pipe" and the Green Album singles), and some of the singles from Maladroit onwards are some of my personal favorites from their whole discography: "Island in the Sun", "Keep Fishin'", "Perfect Situation", "Dreamin'" and "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" (which will turn up in the next #2s poll with the far inferior "Troublemaker")

Frontier Psychiatrist, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 17:27 (nine years ago) link

Schism was the first song I learned to play on bass that I was proud of so it has some attachment for me - comparing it to the rest of Tool's output it is pretty weak though.
I'll probably vote for one of the Incubus cuts. I really enjoyed some of their early stuff when it came out but haven't thought to pick up their last couple albums.

I still wind up my best friend about him loving The Offspring as much as he did back then. Oh man, looking back so much of that stuff disappoints.

i am literally the only person on earth who loves light grenades but yeah, that's a great record

'Stand Inside Your Love' is by miles the best thing on this list, so that.

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Tuesday, 3 June 2014 18:05 (nine years ago) link

voted for "the rock show," a song i can yell from memory, but i was sort of into that "boys of summer" cover as a concurrent teen

xgau on "schism"

Lateralus [Volcano, 2001]
What am I supposed to say about the latest in meaning-mongering for the fantasy fiction set? That they are not as good as King Crimson? That I do not like my Billy Cobham comp even less? That this is not progress? That I am not a virgin? All of the above. Plus I never liked Crimson much to begin with. C

"Anna Molly" and "Dig" were great singles, if either comes up in any of these polls it's getting my vote. never listened to the album a lot but it seemed as good as any Incubus record.

I still wind up my best friend about him loving The Offspring as much as he did back then.

I'll bet this really hurts his self esteem

idk why some people got so exercised by the black flag lyric, it probably annoyed don henley and that's good enough for me

i think it's hilarious

Also, "Oil & Water" and "Diamonds & Coal." Incubus gets elemental.

Oh man Blink is going to get hurt so bad due to vote splitting
By the way the correct answer is ROCK SHOW as I determined from listening to all four of these entries back to back on Youtube

ascai, Tuesday, 3 June 2014 22:44 (nine years ago) link

I think I would rank the five Blink #2s (including the one from previous poll) as:

1. What's my age again?
2. Feeling this
3. Adam's song
4. Man overboard
5. The rock show

LimbsKing, Wednesday, 4 June 2014 13:35 (nine years ago) link

"What's My Age Again?" > "Feeling This"/"The Rock Show" > "Man Overboard"/"Adam's Song"

Too difficult for me to give each song an individual ranking, and if one were to throw in "Stay Together for the Kids" with them that would be even tougher

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Oh well, at least it wasn't a Blink-182 track.

Toni Braxton-Hicks (Turrican), Friday, 6 June 2014 00:55 (nine years ago) link

Expected "Sweetness" to win, but the turnout for "With Arms Wide Open" actually surprises me more than "Schism" getting the most votes.
