I have "not walked" in a club game. In fairness it was my first ball and the edge was down the leg-side so it felt a bit unfair. When I got a huge snick on it 5 runs later trying to mash it out of the park, and the keeper pulled off probably the best glovesman's catch I've ever seen at that level (top-right corner, flying through air etc), the bowler turned round and asked the umpire bitterly "how was THAT"...'twas all very droll.

I knew you wouldnt walk

strauss gone

Gayle gets Strauss out C&B so the WI aren't punished after all.

I would walk in most circumstances, actually!

So will Shah run cook out or himself? Or will he get out on the boundary slogging?

Shah was lucky there

Shah out

(for good)

england falling to bits

lol chill out dude, this is gonna be a bit white-water, plenty of batsmen still in the hutch

like, Shah *had* to go for his shots, as do all the others. some will fall.

WI wont chase a total. Gayle might but the others wont. England have to and could easily be all out for 40 or 50

Shah didn't. You never HAVE to chase wide balls.

England have to and could easily be all out for 40 or 50

Sometimes I wonder whether you're watching the same sport as I am :P

You don't HAVE to chase wide balls, but I sense that quite a lot of balls delivered in this innings will be just that, so it kinda helps.

WI will feel that once they get KP out games over.

Cook reckons he didnt edge it so is referring

but the umpire must have conclusive proof to overturn in

so im guessing out

unless they get it wrong like with chanderpaul

i dont think he hit it btw. even with the replay

so i cant see why that was given out in the 1st place

This is all very silly.

given out

now we might score some quick runs!!

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Monday, 9 March 2009 21:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Makes you wonder why he reversed the decision to give Chanderpaul out. All this is doing is giving the WI a benefit.

Still a little peeved about that Chanderpaul decision tbh.

Dar told Harper that he only heard the sound of the ball hitting the glove, no nick. Harper insisted he did hear it so wont change his decision.
HARPER IS A CHEAT!

oh here we go again

WI so confident in getting dodgy decisions theyre referring an lbw

Will harper insist he got it right again?

Aaaah don't know wha's goin' off aaht there, I tells thee

Lets see which umpire is corrupt this time! ;)

this has to be not out

and is

thank fuck they have none left

i dont think the referrals system is going to be used in the ashes series. Bound to be a gentlemans agreement.

^^^yes please

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Monday, 9 March 2009 21:27 (fifteen years ago) link

(unless it's a VERY basic referral system, along the lines of "was it a stinker")

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Monday, 9 March 2009 21:27 (fifteen years ago) link

still doesnt work. cook was still given out

A stinker = "clearly, blatantly errant"

they probably drink corporate water (country matters), Monday, 9 March 2009 21:29 (fifteen years ago) link

But the referrals arent the problem. It's the incompetent men in the middle and up in the chair.
Take tv out of it and you still have 2 morons in the middle getting it wrong.

I wish we had fred. we'd be 2-1 up

Chanderpaul wouldnt say if he had hit it or not(ie didnt try to say he didn't hit it) then he said the WI team was happy with the referrals as they had the major benefit of it.

Still doesn't change the fact that Harper is an arse

Look, just be grateful Billy Bowden's in South Africa, will ya? :P

Just seen the cook decision again. There's daylight there, he does not touch it. How could Harper have still given it out? Unbelievable.

I hope KP scores quick as anything tomorrow. get 170 in double quicktime so that WI only have to go at 2 an over so they cant just block, and hope a couple of wkts fall early then they get nervy and wkts fall at regular intervals.
Sadly on this pitch its morely likely gayle will knock it off doublequick and get a 10 wkt win.

England can quite easily get a 200 lead before lunch. Set 'em about 210 to win, watch the sparks fly.

That would take some bold captaincy, not hitherto a feature of the series - but what's the alternative, declare at tea and hope for a miracle?
