That's mostly why I said 'wtf'. Also, it seems like a strange dish to show up at a SoCal fast food place with a tacky theme.

carl agatha OTM. I would nominate Grotto Pizza as a runner up. Jerry's kinda sucks imo, I think Ledo Pizza is more of a thing for Maryland people although I don't like it much myself.

Haven't read any articles but it's likely they just copied the Taiwanese one wholesale or it might even be an overseas franchise

Yes, it was a branch of the Taiwanese restaurant. I haven't been in the City of Industry for a long while, but it seems like an odd place to locate. It's mostly an industrial business area but it does have a high-end hotel complex. Woulda killed in Alhambra.

not a chain but
http://www.seriouseats.com/2014/05/our-top-10-burgers-in-atlanta-georgia.html

"Meatstick." If you saw that word listed on a menu—with zero accompanying description—would you tempt fate and order it? Let's hope so, 'cos the One Eared Stag's not-exactly-secret burger with the kooky codename (which comes from a never-released Phish song; how's THAT for obscure?) is well worth the leap of faith.

would not wanna eat produce from a chef who is familiar with unreleased Phish songs tbh

Yeah, so here at Taco Bell, one of the great things about our company is that they are very understanding that the world is changing and the world is changing very quickly. Whether it's companies like Uber disrupting the taxi cab industry or Airbnb disrupting the hotel industry, disruption is happening everywhere and Taco Bell recognizes that. And the great thing about it was they sort of really embraced disruption and how do we do things differently, how do we reinvent what we do. And so my job here at Taco Bell is to really think about that.

is that like a microwavable Dorito treat or do they come straight out of the bag like that?

odd proggy geezer (Moodles), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:06 (nine years ago) link

looks like a filthy good time

chikungunya manatee (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 18:10 (nine years ago) link

are these just cheese sticks only it's cheddar instead mozarella and there's dorito powder in the breading?

balls, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:04 (nine years ago) link

I would assume so

No word if they are served with a side of marinara sauce or Cool Ranch flavored ranch dressing

, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:05 (nine years ago) link

Fuck. I wish I could come up with this garbage.

how's life, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:05 (nine years ago) link

it's not really the idea, it's the extensive breading experiments that make the idea viable

j., Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:17 (nine years ago) link

that's why we can't just give loaded doritos away to sub-saharan africans

j., Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:18 (nine years ago) link

These have probably been around for a while but last time I was in 7-11 they had these "secret flavor" Doritos in shiny foil bags that only have a number for a name so you don't know what they're going to taste like and I think they were being marketed as like "experimental" flavors. Like Russian roulette corn triangles.

Immediate Follower (NA), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:26 (nine years ago) link

Oh yeah! Haven't had them but I know of them from DORITOS POLL

, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:27 (nine years ago) link

I was hoping the breading was just crushed doritos

odd proggy geezer (Moodles), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:30 (nine years ago) link

This was touched on earlier, but seeing this menu in real life gave me ptsd

chikungunya manatee (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:39 (nine years ago) link

That looks gross and I would totally eat it.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:40 (nine years ago) link

My understanding is that food in advertising is often doctored (sometimes to the point of not actually being the food advertised) so as to make the food in question appear as appetizing as possible. So I guess I don't understand why the food depicted in Taco Bell's breakfast advertising looks so much like tortilla-wrapped vom.

If you're eating at Taco Bell you've already given up

Nhex, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 19:54 (nine years ago) link

i've been eating soyrizo and egg breakfast burritos with half of a hashbrown in them and hashbrown in a breakfast burrito is the best

chikungunya manatee (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 9 July 2014 20:07 (nine years ago) link

i appreciate those stupid ads where taco bell's like "man, mcdonalds don't care about the hash brown, BUT WE DO, do we put it in into our breakfast burrito, suck it mcdonalds"

Nhex, Wednesday, 9 July 2014 20:08 (nine years ago) link

There's a restaurant nearby that made hash brown-wrapped omelets that were amazing but they stopped making them and I stopped going there. Because what kind of a decision is that even.

When I worked at Taco Bell, someone ordered an "ice taco" – a wheat tortilla filled with ice, and cheese sprinkled on top. Why hasn't Taco Bell tried to mainstream this???

huh if they're thinking about making something like a luther vandross burger version of a breakfast sandwich that would be right up hardee's alley, though it wouldn't be that different from a mcgriddle really.

I think that you could make non-gross versions of most of the Taco Bell breakfast items at home with basic cooking skills, and they would be far less greasy and overwhelming than what you get at Taco Bell and still be kinda greasy and overwhelming.
