good results. weird results. hard to believe that more people genuinely like some unlistenable fucking khanate record more than ace of spades or jailbreak, but poll results are always mystifying, ime. were jesus lizard excluded on princple?

I was kind of expecting Cynic (Focus at least) and Ved Buens Ende to show up. Most of these bands just aren't really my thing but the only selections I actually balked at were MSP. I did, however, spend last night re-acquainting myself with the first three Ulverses because of this.
oh and xxxpost by 'parochial metalhead' I mean anyone who has an absurdly narrow view of what good and/or true metal is. That for me includes anyone who dismisses anything outside their personal preferences, or anything past 1989, or even purist black metal dullards etc.

i dismiss khanate, but am right to do so

Also I doubt jesus lizard think of themselves as heavy rock or metal.

just re-reading bits of the thread and I'm surprised so many ilxors were stuck in the 70s or 80s

if jesus lizard can listen to "the art of self defense" and not think of themselves as heavy rock, then, well ... they can't, so it doesn't matter
nice to see that bullhead did so well for itself

I can't believe I never listened to Sarcofago's "Laws of Scourge" before today. three songs in and I'm going gaga over the riff salad.
always liked I.N.R.I. a lot but man this is top quality stuff.

― american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 21 October 2019 20:50 (four years ago) link
i guess it's possible for an entire country to be wrong
― american bradass (BradNelson), Monday, 21 October 2019 20:51 (four years ago) link
Very much agree.
― pomenitul, Monday, 21 October 2019 20:51 (four years ago) link
Paranoid > Master of Reality > Black Sabbath > Vol. IV is how I'd rank them.

Nah, I briefly haunted ILX in the early 00s then wandered off for more than a decade. Besides, I wasn't really into metal at the time.
― pomenitul, Monday, 21 October 2019 20:54 (four years ago) link

― Vote (with a bullet) (Oor Neechy), Monday, 21 October 2019 21:00 (four years ago) link
Fairly different from my ballot if I'd have to come up with one now (in part because I don't really get stoner metal) but, as with the all-time poll, and at the risk of sounding like a purist, at least it's mostly metal metal and not just variegated shades of heavy.

I do wonder whether people care as much about Isis these days. They definitely acted as a stepping stone for me.
