dear bill magill,

shut the fuck up!!! god what the hell is wrong with you. half of us are "from these parts" and got a different rememberance than you, this is possibly because only retards and degenerates actually think the post's every-changing back page reflects opinions "around these parts"?

also the idea that you actually think the giants would've ever wasted money on favre actually seriously makes me think that you've been hit on the head a lot of times. a LOT of times. like joe montana levels of times. there are only two goddamned teams in the league would've done something THAT stupid as picking up someone like drunky mccajun and those two teams are minnesota and the jets. since everyone in minnesota would've burned down the metrodome had hated wisconsinite brett favre come to play there forever and ever, the jets had to man up and take control of the idiocy.

EVERYONE KNOWS THIS SHIT, IT'S LIKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

sincerely,
your neighborhood schef

don't gis "vikings blowing each other in the streets"

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 19:49 (eleven years ago) link

I'm guessing a GIS for "XXXX blowing etc etc." will always yield savory results.

srsly who the fuck is this guy

cankles, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 20:31 (eleven years ago) link

he used to play for the packers for years and years, with the jets now. i'm surprised you haven't heard of him.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 20:32 (eleven years ago) link

heh. nice one, cumdad.

bill magill has been consistently on of the most suspect poster on ilx

look out for his valuable opinions on metal vs. pop music

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 20 August 2008 20:47 (eleven years ago) link

Shefter,

After the Minnesota game, even Jerry Reese called Eli out. I'm not going with what the Post said, I don't even read it. But a lot of people were looking to run Eli out of town on a rail after that game.

I'm actually happy for the guy. Notwithstanding what I said above about the Samuel play, the Giants four-game playoff run was phenomenal. Had they lost to the Pats, it still would have been amazing.

And Jordan- how "suspect" am I? I don't claim to be an expert on any of this stuff, including the "metal v. pop" issue. I'm just posting about topics I like. My opinion is no more important than anybody else's.

Bill Magill, Wednesday, 20 August 2008 20:51 (eleven years ago) link

v suspect.

"If Eli orders steak and they bring him flounder, he'll just eat it," Archie told SI. "What would Peyton do? You ought not bring Peyton the flounder."

You know in a few years when Peyton and Eli are done playing football, there are going to be a lot of people that look back at these two brothers that played football with some wistful eyes.

Two brothers, both engaging (yet different) personalities and yet so damn successful in anything, let alone sports.

It just doesn't happen and I think it is going to take awhile for people to really register how unique a thing it really was.

Enjoy it now. In a weird way, I kind of had a similar feel towards the last Bulls run with Jordan and I remember it kind of well against the Jazz in that last series. He retired again and came back, but I kind of remember from that last series, you know, this is really great but it's almost done. The Manning brothers might go on for a few more years, but I don't think it is quite acknowledged how unique it really is, even though they are such big popular and really great athletes.

earlnash, Monday, 7 May 2012 04:45 (seven years ago) link

one definite HOFer, + one who is increasingly perhaps likely?

omar little, Monday, 7 May 2012 17:44 (seven years ago) link

peyton just needs to pad those stats a little more

omar little, Monday, 7 May 2012 17:45 (seven years ago) link

I could see Peyton wanting to hang around for a bit to try and win a second title and then maybe get the alltime Yards or TD record. He'd probably have to play, be good and stay healthy 4 or 5 years to do that though, since Favre played into his 40s.

earlnash, Monday, 7 May 2012 23:15 (seven years ago) link

Even if Peyton doesnt get either of those records, and doesnt win another SB, he will still be more highly regarded historically than Favre.

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 17:41 (seven years ago) link

Why do you say that?

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 18:01 (seven years ago) link

In my opinion he is just a better quarterback than Favre. Same amount of SB's, but i just think he's better, and i think that would probably be the general consensus among cognoscenti going forward. Pretty sure I'm not going out on a limb here. I'd much rather have Manning in his prime than Favre

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 19:00 (seven years ago) link

yeah, i dunno about that; let's say peytey does one season with the broncos, fucks his neck up and retires. You still think he'll be considered a better qb than farvrevrere?

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:11 (seven years ago) link

by most people, yes

One Way Ticket on the 1277 Express (Bill Magill), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:26 (seven years ago) link

ok. i'm not arguing personally but it seems like sports culture starting with THE WORLDWIDE LEADER hold brett up as exemplar for the ages; would be kinda surprised to see that worm turn.

(Name Withheld to Avoid Hassle) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 8 May 2012 20:30 (seven years ago) link

i think brett favre is about as disliked as roger clemens these days, both w/attendant comedic blundering re: extramarital misadventures, though at least brett seems to have kept it 100% age of consent.

omar little, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 00:07 (seven years ago) link

manning bros are genuinely beloved imo, favre is "a legend" whom no one actually likes anymore, not even GB pack fans it seems.

omar little, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 00:09 (seven years ago) link

i'd say peyton is/was a better quarterback, had a longer 'prime' than favre and was definitely smarter/made better decisions

otoh there was a window there in the mid-90s when favre was making throws i don't think i've ever seen anyone make (maybe because they were too smart to try). and, probably unfairly, i think favre's half-assed exit has diminished his, uh, legacy

mookieproof, Wednesday, 9 May 2012 00:24 (seven years ago) link

...that's why they put in a QB and WR nearly every year....
