One of the ugliest band names ever. Just felt like getting that out of my system.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 26 November 2007 02:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Thx for posting links to those interviews. I've liked Skullflower for years but never researched them at all. Im particularly fond of Xaman.

Kewl. But I admit I was hoping for a 1991-era clip or something similar!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 May 2008 16:57 (fifteen years ago) link

kewl?

ian, Thursday, 8 May 2008 17:00 (fifteen years ago) link

1991 talk on my part, clearly.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 8 May 2008 17:02 (fifteen years ago) link

awww, whadda drag. would anyone mind re-upping that singles comp? I'd love to hear it.

Theres a new one out. I forget the name of it but I saw it floating around the WNYU studio... Will post when I figure it out.

jonathan - stl, Friday, 9 May 2008 06:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Its called "Desire For A Holy War," out on Utech. The song "Frozen Spectres" is pretty cool.

jonathan - stl, Friday, 9 May 2008 06:32 (fifteen years ago) link

I was at the Skullflower gig - Bower started the performance 'singing' from inside a big sack-like blanket, for reasons that I'm afraid escaped me

Ward Fowler, Friday, 9 May 2008 09:07 (fifteen years ago) link

there's also ANOTHER new skullflower. "pure imperial reform."

one year passes...

Anyone heard anything about further Skullflower reissues on Crucial Blast? I picked up their excellent IIIrd Gatekeeper reissue a while back, but there's been no word since...

Reassuring Drops, Wednesday, 20 May 2009 23:15 (fourteen years ago) link

I dunno about reissues, but there's a new LP on Noiseville with some serious black metal moves. I like it. Pschyed out, heavy black metal.

ian, Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:02 (fourteen years ago) link

didn't they just play no fun fest?

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:10 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, but i did not go. And actually I haven't heard any reports, either. It was the only draw for me this year, but it sold out before I even knew tickets were on sale.

ian, Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:11 (fourteen years ago) link

not to rub it in, but that's a pretty solid lineup

SUNDAY 17 at 6:30pm

Skullflower
Prurient / Kevin Drumm
Black Pus
Emeralds
Cold Cave
Peter Rehberg/Marcus Schmickler
Jazzfinger
Conrad Schnitzler
Con-Cert

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:12 (fourteen years ago) link

I saw black pus a couple weeks ago... thru the judicious use of triggers it's like seeing lightning bolt w/o dealing w/ lightning bolt crowds

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:13 (fourteen years ago) link

oh, black pus i would have seen.

tbh i think cold cave sucks, emeralds are boring stoners, prurient/dom is a macho creep and conrad schnitzler is old and often very boring.

ian, Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

i saw one of the earliest ch1ppendale solo shows when i was in high school--billed as Lord Sun Sun.

ian, Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:14 (fourteen years ago) link

so solid like constipation is what you're saying

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:15 (fourteen years ago) link

something like that.

i haven't been to no fun fest since the first year (well i went for half a day the second year, all the way down in red hook.) it's such a weird macho/fratboy atmosphere.

ian, Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:16 (fourteen years ago) link

pvd noise scene has spoiled me, not a lot of sausage factory shows

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:18 (fourteen years ago) link

providence scene is something v different, in my experience. blame the midwest.

ian, Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:23 (fourteen years ago) link

Back on Skullflower, I saw them a couple of months ago at Glasgow Implodes 4 (Skullflower photos) and they were truly excellent. Even a dodgy amp down they were loud, heavy, totally psychedelic, complete with heady incense burning, like being trapped in a glorious mind-transporting wind tunnel. Highest recommendation.

Anyone have the new CD, Malediction, on Second Layer? I've heard very good things about it, so am definitely going to pick it up shortly, following the wonderful GI4 experience.

Just bought "Pure Imperial Reform" today. It's sounding pretty tasty right now.

Sadly http://www.monotremata.com/skull/ seems to be down and has been for a few months, at least when I've checked. Anyone with any info?

krakow, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 09:43 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah... well, sort of. rkf was sick of the hosting company he had, they would routinely lock him out of his site or go down for long periods of time, various other issues were involved...

anyway, it's here

six months pass...

New album out in February on Neurot: "Strange Keys To Untune Gods' Firmament£" a 2-disc set!

Strange Keys to Untune Gods' Firmament evokes Wagnerian sonic bombast, a Nietzchean worldview, and a warlike cry of rebellion against the false, encased in a whirlwind both psychotropic and psychoacoustic. Each spin brings new themes to the forefront. Not easy listening by anyone's standards, Strange Keys is not for the faint of heart--but those willing to submit and immerse themselves in the deep, thick waters of self-transformation will be greatly rewarded. --Steve Von Till (Neurosis / Neurot Recordings)

bower should probably be limited to 7"s til he gets over this really boring, tinnitus-inducing period.
