Gravediggaz' "6 Ft Deep" is the best album I've heard this year

Too Poetic does the verse with "Old fat Ned, schemin' on a blow job from a crackhead". Dude had some of the best vocal inflections I've ever heard. Very creative.

His verse on "Mommy, What's A Gravedigga? (RZA Full Mix)" is fucking awesome. Like the part where he goes "You was washed in the blooooooooooooooooooooood of a lamb to be cleansed!" is cool.

Too Poetic is the one who was in Stetsasonic, right?

oops (Oops), Tuesday, 21 September 2004 17:53 (nineteen years ago) link

Prince Paul and Frukwan were both in Stetsasonic. Not Too Poetic.

You know what I only just discovered and can't believe I slept on so long? Liquid Swords! What's weird is I stuck it on the other night getting ready to blow my non-muso pals' minds and they were all "I can't believe you never heard this before"!

"Freak the Sorceress" on whatever Gravediggaz 12" it is rules as well.

I've got a dbl 12" with a version of "1-800 Suicide" with totally different, Jim Jones inspired, lyrics too.

The Portishead remix of 'em is dull tho'.

Is this the same as the video version of the song? Because it has totally different lyrics which are less satirical and more anti-suicide.

Gravediggaz got some votes from me, at least, in the ongoing Wu poll: THE POLL IS COMIN THROUGH, THE OUTCOME IS CRITICAL — WU-TANG CLAN — Artist Poll — Results

2 Cups of Blood is my jam.

If this wouldn't include "Bang Your Head", it'd be a perfect album. I always skip that track, cos the beat sounds so horrible, what were they thinking?! It's still better than any other album featuring RZA tho.

I so loved this one at the time and 1-800 Suicide is a stone cold classic, where the fuck does 25 years go so fast?

calzino, Friday, 9 August 2019 21:33 (four years ago) link

During one of the roughest, most hopeless nights of my life, I got cute with myself and decided to listen to "1-800-SUICIDE" again. Uh, that was a bad idea. The sound of that sampled laughing became the sound of everyone who ever wanted anyone to kill themselves, ironically or not. Their voices became the sound of me laughing at my own pointless self-pitying, unable to escape the pointlessness, hating myself more and more for thinking what I was thinking what I was thinking. "You don't even HAVE any REAL problems, you fucking loser." Not exactly a helpful mindset to be in when you want to get out of that mindset.

I liked it when I first heard it, but the friend who played it for me the first time twenty years ago turned out to be a giant asshole, anyway. Dickwads like Tyler the Creator probably jack off to it.

Gimme Liquid Swords instead, that at least has your back.

yeah, I've never understood the appeal of this album. even at the time I didn't like it.

fine album is it, not listened in years like.

this is a great album. bang your head is prob my fave track on it too.

never understood why shakey doesnt like this

big city slam (Spottie), Friday, 9 August 2019 22:23 (four years ago) link

it's true, it seems like the kind of thing I would dig, but somehow the lyrical approach is just off-putting to me. It's not funny enough to be taken as a joke, but taking it seriously just seems sad and morbid

Οὖτις, Friday, 9 August 2019 22:28 (four years ago) link

i think it's pretty silly! and the production helps aid the silliness in a lot of instances.

I bought this album while I was part of a car pool to work. She usually slept on the drive.

And when my passenger heard "other rappers are flatter than a white girl's butt" she woke up briefly and said "he ain't wrong".
