yeah man I hate it when I hear songs I've heard before

Josh, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Buying 12 or so records you've never heard and a blank CDR + making a mix with a song from each picked at random = best method evah. I did this once...

... er, no. I cannot tell a lie.

I closed the mix with Dio's Rainbow in the Dark, which I had heard before.

Andy K, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yes, but I'm rubbish and a benchmark of what you shouldn't be doing.

Graham, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

josh, do you want to turn yer mate into a manic depressive?

nath @ woik, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

haha andy we are not all rich kings sitting atop vast piles of wealth with which to get cds. or amg writers.

graham, as long as you put it that way then I am inclined to agree.

Josh, Saturday, 22 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Everybody now a) (its a cdr) Tom Waits - I Dont Wanna Grow Up, The Vasilines - Jesus Doesnt Want me For A Sunbeam, Sloan Dreaming Of You, Big Star - Thirteen, The Weakerthans - Left and Leaving, Rheostatics - Clair (live), Serge Gainsborough - je Taime... moi non plus, Art Bergman - Hospital Song (earlier electric version), Aphex Twin - Xtal, Black Eyes - January, Mojave 3 - Bringing Me Home again, 13th Floor Elevators - Splash, Cowboy Junkies - 200 Miles, Stone Roses - This Is The One, Rheostatics - You Are Very Star.

Im becoming convinced its my job to spread the love of Art Bergmans music around.

Mr Noodles, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

Haha Josh no see it's just that my priorities are wrong -- I bought actual real clothes for the first time in ovah a year last wkend.

Favorite part of this mix: the part where it goes from "I'll come running to tie your shoes" to "Fucking kill her fucking kill her kill her already kill her," etc.

Andy K, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

3 is the magic number followed by Jus 1 Kiss, nice.

Ronan, Sunday, 23 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-one years ago) link

andy the shellac was a crowd-pleaser for sure! usually it's the gangsta rap (oh it's so awful and nasty) that draws the comments from the girls my roommate plays the tape for. don't know if any of them have caught the juxtaposition tho.

also if a girl came to me with an original and a remix on the same tape...! *shakes fist*

one time gareth mustve put up some old country tune on 1471 called umm... 'i'll take the dog' about a couple breaking up to making up and i raggo raggedly put it on a girltape! oboy did that ever work a treat, cheers g

(probly also my most shameful internet-related shenanigan somehow)

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 17 December 2005 14:18 (eighteen years ago) link

people generally put too many tracks on mixes I think

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 17 December 2005 14:20 (eighteen years ago) link

i lost it on the old computer, i'm afraid. it's too jaunty for that tape anyway, i put mine after 'overnight celebrity' by twista n kanye i think! ur probly right about too many trax tho.

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Saturday, 17 December 2005 14:24 (eighteen years ago) link

DVD-Rs will overtake CDRs in popularity, MP3 decoding capability will become the norm in hi-fis, leading to 1000 track mixes. "Did you like the transition between track 562 and 563? I spent ages getting that right."

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 17 December 2005 14:25 (eighteen years ago) link

why dont we - play something these hoes'd liiiike / drive whips i know they liiike

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Saturday, 17 December 2005 14:33 (eighteen years ago) link

can't bookend a mix w.an original & its remix

but you can w.no reproach use it as second and penultimate

or have the tracks seperated by a ratio of 8:5, I think

i can't tell, if putting it on a mixtape worked with that girl, or not, but i do know that if its a shameful internet-related shenanigan, then here is the best place to share.

i bought that record in Nashville itself, i just remembered. there were no guitar shaped swimming pools though

terry lennox. (gareth), Saturday, 17 December 2005 15:17 (eighteen years ago) link

I stayed in a guitar-shaped swimming pool for four hours in nashville and got an ear infection

thats the 1 yes

erm i should clarify this was probably a well-ensconced 3rd datey tape; i'm not so jovial on a 1st, naturally.

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Saturday, 17 December 2005 15:24 (eighteen years ago) link

perhaps i should be.

I don't think I've ever put two mixes of the same track in one mix - but when I DJed at club Freaky Trigger, I started with the tune that has the horn part used in Crazy In Love, and ended with the Beyonce track. I don't know how many people noticed...
