A ten year run!

Wow. I remember when it debuted when I was in college, and we'd all see who could run to the TV fast enough to turn it off after The Simpsons was over.

three months pass...

So I'm on season 8 now and this has just been getting better and better. Some of Dale's dialogue has been amazing, and probably my favourite character. Although I do like Bill a lot of the time.

I've probably posted this a few times on this thread already, but this is still one of the best shows on television and might be Mike Judge's best creation. The ZZ Top episode was the closest it's been to losing the plot because of a celebrity guest, and it still held it together. The Simpsons is handling guest plots worse as the seasons go by...

Who's been the best guest on this show in terms of keeping a coherent plot and actually blending into the show? I was going to say Johnny Depp, then I remembered the Chuck Mangione episode!

One of the great things about their use of guest stars is they generally have them play a role, not play themselves in the crap way the Simpsons has been known to do.

That said, best guest star is definitely Ann Richards.

Hank, Bobby, Peggy and Luanne were animated into an episode of "The Simpsons" (1989). At one point, Homer makes a reference to the Springfield football team playing the Arlen football team, then, the shot goes to the Hill family, where Hank says "We came two thousand miles for this?" The rest of the characters do not speak. In an episode of King of the Hill, Bobby also has a Bart Simpson doll on his bookshelf.

Almost instantly classic: any episode with a Bill flashback. After being set up as kind of a sad sack for seasons, we figure out that he even though he's kind of an earnest, solid guy that he used to be the guy that the others wanted to be. It's mildly heartbreaking to see him as a middle-aged mess after that perspective.

Oh, and what about that recent episode where we find out that Bill's cousin is some sort of French-descended Louisianan gentleman and Bill kind of is too, by extension?

an all-time favorite is the one where bobby joins the soccer team (coached by Will Ferrell) and he and his dad have this conversation:

Hank: "Whats that on your arm there bobby? A muscle?"
Bobby: "No, its a lump from when I got hit by a football. You know dad, the soccer team doesn't have any lumps or bruises. And coach Lucas lets them eat oranges at halftime."

Man, the soccer episode is great, especially the end, when Bobby convinces Joseph to quit soccer and go back to football. Paraphrasing here:

Hank - "You know Bobby, that was a great decision putting Joseph back into play. You might make a great coach someday." (puts his hand on Bobby's shoulder)

Bobby - "I think I'd like that, as long as I could wear the uniform."

Hank - "Uh, OK."

Bobby - "And a cape."

Couch Sours was played by Phil Hendrie

Phil was raised in Arcadia, California. He attended Pasadena City College for two years, then went to work in Orlando Florida doing construction and cement finishing.

Phil worked as a DJ in a variety of radio stations around the country. In 1990, he was doing a talk show at a radio station in Ventura, California, when he created his first alter persona, Raj Fahneen. Phil then moved to Atlanta, then Minneapolis, then Miami, modifying and improving his characters and the format of the show.

Phil finally wound up back in Los Angeles, at KFI AM640, in 1996. His program became syndicated with the Premier Radio Network in 1999, and was heard on over 100 radio stations around the country.

Phil has 'appeared' in guest roles doing character voices for Fox TV shows Futurama and King of the Hill. He has appeared in the flesh on "Dinner and a Movie" on Turner, and guest starred on NBC's new show A.U.S.A. He is currently working with writer Peter Toland on a new show for NBC.

June 2006: Phil retires from his nationally syndicated radio show in order to pursue his career in acting.
