Bad playoffs at the plate or not, it is good that Larry Walker is leaving the game while he still is somewhat a viable player. If he wanted to play next year, I'm sure the Cards would have had him back, if at nothing a lesser paycheck.

Bernie Williams should take some notes on Larry's exit, but I am sure he will be a Devil Ray or Diamondback in March.

Walker is just too banged up to continue. He spent most of the season either limping around or in rehab. I think it's more of an issue of health/injuries affecting performance rather than a steady decline.

Which leads us to Bernie... whose last decent year was 2002 (but he's made over $30M since then so he's not had any major incentive to just up and quit the game).

fifteen years pass...

Stopped by the Canadian Baseball HOF today (literally just down the road from me) and got an autographed Walker card--a series the Hall produces for inductees--for my brother-in-law, who grew up in Montreal. $40, not bad.
