I'm quite liking the "Well Hung" comp. Great funk and prog mix.

i like everything i've heard on this label. though i was a little put out having to pay over $20 for the galwad y mynydd thing (that's like a dollar+ a minute). but i'm cheap.

VAMPIRES OF DARTMOOR -
DRACULA'S MUSIC CABINET

Finders Keepers presents this uber-rare soundtrack to a film that never existed, performed by an imaginery pop-group. Incredible Polanski-inspired German hip-hop psychsploitation beats from 1969....

the new b-music comp (drive in, turn on, freak out) came in the mail the other day- basically same deal as first one--multi-contributor dj tag team. it's also really good, has the requisite handful of duplicate tracks that i recognized from somewhere else in the votel/Fkeepers stable.

the liner notes also tipped off two upcoming releases; one a pakistani film comp, other one from spain, not really any detail past that.

So what happened to that Vampires of Dartmoore thing? It looked interesting, but I can't find any info about it at all.

it's pretty great. my friend almost dropped $250 on it before it got reissued

One of the best tracks on the Finders Keepers compilation was by them.

Reissued by whom, though? Can't find it anywhere, and there's no mention of it on Finders Keepers, Delay 68, B-Music et al's websites...

Finders Keepers will put out a Massiera comp soon - CAN'T WAIT.

Marco Damiani, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:52 (fifteen years ago) link

...and the Vampires of Dartmoore will reissued in early 2009 too. Its going to be a good year.

Marco Damiani, Friday, 5 December 2008 16:55 (fifteen years ago) link

so stoked on the Massiera comp. heard a few clips this morn of the single, but it's earlier sounding stuff http://www.finderskeepersrecords.com/discog_fkrhny.html still pretty sweet.

chick korea (jaxon), Friday, 5 December 2008 20:12 (fifteen years ago) link

so that's like three massiera comps in three months. i guess that's cool, i hope there isn't a lot of crossover in their choice of songs.

"L'ivresse des profondeurs" is plain great.

I still have to investigate the other comps - now, if only someone put out again that Horrific Child lp...

Picked up the "Anagram Jam" record, which is Andy Votel (and also Dom Thomas) doing re-edits sourced from the typical B-music-esque genre material. Pretty great summer jam possibilities and the reedit angle is nice for extending some of the juicier bits that normally blast by on the Votel mixes.

Downloading a digital copy of the "Science Fiction Dance Corporation" album right now, which is apparently the same guys as the "Vampires of Dartmoore," though even the Finders Keepers site is ruthlessly short on actual information

Shark Ridden Waters

SHARK ATTACK!

Help! A song in the form of a large silver shark was discovered yesterday off the west coast of Wales.

RECORDING

A mysterious recording was made of it as it swam aggressively past a miked up dilapidated wooden fishing trawler, like some old boat off Jaws.

ANDY VOTEL

The recording, that you can listen to up there in bottled form, goes under the name Shark Ridden Waters and is believed to bear all the sonic hallmarks of producer Andy Votel."

jaxon, Saturday, 15 January 2011 06:39 (thirteen years ago) link

They're pretty awesome if you like weird shit. The early ones, anyway, lots of inexplicable "vampire" things happening, without any real reference to trad-vampire things. "Le Vampire Nue" is a good one to start with.

I didnt know Rollin died.
My favourite of his movies is probably Lèvres de sang/ Lips of Blood.
I have fond memories also of his first one (Le Viol du Vampire), if you like catatonic acting, beautiful cinematography and unintentionally comic '68 French pseudo-philosophy!

Marco Damiani, Saturday, 15 January 2011 11:55 (thirteen years ago) link

The first song on that Thai Dai comp is a mad cover of Sabbath's Iron Man... Also, Dom Thomas's latest Brutal Music mix 'Synthetic Soul' is reliably excellent.

and yeah, have heard a few bits off the HB label, not this album yet though.
tis fun stuff, especially when he drops in samples/loops from the finders keepers catalogue.
