Like Minds is technically a Gary Burton album, I think, but if it's here then I'm voting for it. It's not way out, it's just perfect.

i only own one of his albums - the falcon and the snowman album - specifically for the amazing bowie sung track "this is not america". i've only heard one other song of his - the balearic banger "slip away", and i love it, but i guess i'll go w/snowman only out of ignorance

I'm partial to Offramp.

My runners-up include Bright Size Life, Still Life (Talking), and Letter From Home

I'm a big fan of that analog guitar synth sound that he's always using.

I'll vote for the only one I have-- "Rejoicing" feat. Haden & Higgins--acoustic gold and synth craziness in equal measures.

...and it's not even on the list for some reason. Still gets my vote.

Though I've been listening to a shit ton of Offramp ("Barcarole," "Are You Going With Me?" and the title track which is a colossal guitar synth freak out) and Rejoicing with Charlie Haden and Billy Higgins which has a great mix of atmospheric, extremely melodic straight ahead jazz and several awesome guitar synth tracks...

Likewise "Waiting For An Answer"--all harmonic-y bowed bass and guitar swells--and "Story From a Stranger"...

Witchita Falls is the only great album from Metheney.

Another that should be added to this list is Question & Answer with Dave Holland and Roy Haynes. Great straight-up jazz with some of Pat's most burning guitar.

Ha, that's actually a good explanation.

My love and respect for Metheny has really grown in recent years. He keeps cranking out music, but never shies away from experimentation and innovation.
