Three out of four Turtles (including the core "Flo and Eddie" duo) joined Zappa's band.

Earth Wind & Fire ate the Pharaohs

mulla atari, Monday, 9 April 2007 11:40 (seventeen years ago) link

and if the Bob Dylan thing is accepted: Neil Young/Crazy Horse?

or is that a whole other thread?

StanM, Monday, 9 April 2007 11:41 (seventeen years ago) link

I think this tends to happen more when bands are still forming. Don't know if you'd count it but didn't Noel Gallagher join Oasis then turn them into his backing band?

Matt #2, Monday, 9 April 2007 12:23 (seventeen years ago) link

The Loud Family ate This Very Window.

warren zevon ate r.e.m. and spit them back out after one great album and one meh high-concept side project.

Does this count, though, if Stipey sat the collaboration out? (I could never understand why there wasn't a proper duet on Sentimental Hygiene, since Stipe was at his most duet-happy at the time. Must be some personal reasons).

Erroneous Botch, Monday, 9 April 2007 22:27 (seventeen years ago) link

AoA had every member of modern Boredoms except Y. Seiichi

Catsupppppppppppppp dude ‫茄蕃‪, Monday, 9 April 2007 22:27 (seventeen years ago) link

which could be said of most of the non-Seiichi boredoms sideprojects.

Steve Shasta, Monday, 9 April 2007 22:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Brian Wilson has more or less eaten The Wondermints these days.

Serves the Wondermints right for "eating" the Dukes of Stratosphear (who in turn ate XTC before purging themselves).

Now where's that 'am i rite' emoticon nabisco used?

Cunga, Monday, 9 April 2007 23:50 (seventeen years ago) link

i thought of that but since stipe shows up to sing harmony on one track on sentimental hygiene ("bad karma"), i figured that qualified for a complete sucking of the entire band. i always assumed the reason stipe wasn't around otherwise was that the whole project was just something for the rest of the band to do when stipe wasn't around. not that i ever really thought about it that much.

Heaven 17 ate B.E.F

10cc ate Hotlegs

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 11:14 (seventeen years ago) link

And Yes ate the Buggles, of course.

Yes have done this a lot. In 1980 they ate Buggles, in 1983 they ate Cinema, and in 1991 they ate Anderson Bruford Wakeman & Howe.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 11:28 (seventeen years ago) link

There's a difference between eating another group and becoming another group. Hotlegs became 10cc, 10cc didn't exist before Hotlegs. And BEF was a spin off from Heaven 17, so that doesn't count either.

Tom D., Tuesday, 10 April 2007 11:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Henry Cow ate Slapp Happy and spat out the Art Bears

dan selzer, Tuesday, 10 April 2007 15:27 (seventeen years ago) link

Hotlegs became 10cc

Graham Gouldman became a member the moment 10cc were formed.

And BEF was a spin off from Heaven 17

Wrong. Heaven 17 was a spin off from BEF that proved to last.

eleven years pass...

Was there a more recent iteration of this thread notion?

Anyway -

Cardiacs fully assimilated a group called Ad Nauseam IIRC.

I think they only grabbed 2/4 of AN tbh - there was also a bassist and a saxophonist which they passed over!

They also nicked 2/3 of Sidi Bou Said to be their backing vocalists, lol
