the walkmen are my favorite band right now. their songs are so much better than anyone else's- they write great melodies that aren't ripped off from the ramones/the velvet underground/iggy and the stooges, and the arrangements are consistently interesting and strange. i wish more people would talk about them rather than the dumb strokes.

The Walkmen are pretty sweet, but their bass player is a menace! I hung out with that dude when they came through Detroit and lets just say the guy knows how to "re-freak".

If anyone wants to hear an mp3 they've got two here

I like the 2nd one better but both are good.

I thought this thread was going to be about walkmen as a retro thing. with the strokes being so hip, i figured walkmen might go well with the skinny ties and smudgy mascara. so i was wrong. time to get that walkman from my backpack and replace it with my mp3 playah. not. i'll stick with my walkman and the jam compilation tape i just made.

Has anybody heard "Everybody Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone"? I've first heard it yesterday, but it's the only thing I've been listening to since. Very atmospheric and moody, and it sounds a bit like a mix of Joy Division and early U2.

I like that creaky piano sound on "French Vacation" and a few other songs. The singer reminds me of Bono and a bit of Thom Yorke, which could spell a short honeymoon. I can't tell if it's the same guy who sang for Jonathan Fire Eater with a change of style or somebody else.

I must have heard it dozens upon dozens of times by now but 'Rue the Day' is one of a very exclusive number of songs which invariably wrecks me. I could easily be convinced that it is, in fact, magic.

I don’t feel like these guys get proper credit - they got better as they went on. Their last album was their best album.

If you don’t fuck with EWPTLMIG, you’re like at least 2 levels below me.
