nabisco - the writers/director/producers of Lost have been contracted by Paramount to make this movie

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 24 April 2006 18:56 (eighteen years ago) link

Are you talking about the Lost that's like not even through its second season?

yeah. J.J. Abrams creator of Lost & Alias (and director of MI-I-I-I) is doing a Prequel Strek movie.

xpot

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 24 April 2006 18:57 (eighteen years ago) link

on the one hand, y'know, return to highminded B-movie roots?
on the other, COME ON.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 24 April 2006 18:58 (eighteen years ago) link

pros: Rick Berman is not involved
cons: DeForest Kelley not available for flashbacks

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 24 April 2006 19:00 (eighteen years ago) link

i was confused for a second thinking Strek meant Shrek.

Star Shrek.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Monday, 24 April 2006 19:03 (eighteen years ago) link

The Part of Dr. McCoy will be played by Lil' Jon.

hahahahaha

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 24 April 2006 19:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Ha, sorry, I thought you were comparing Lost to the pointless straggling-on of the Star Trek movies!

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 24 April 2006 19:22 (eighteen years ago) link

I had the same "huh?" reaction that you did, then this little wave of anxiety that ABC would cancel Lost because somebody on ILX didn't like it.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Monday, 24 April 2006 19:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Is According To Jim still on because somebody on ILX DOES like it?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 24 April 2006 19:30 (eighteen years ago) link

I'd like to see outtakes for the casting call auditions for Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk, as there would have to be some that will be down right hilarious.

Will this be better or worse than Dumb & Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd?

polyphonic (polyphonic), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 00:05 (seventeen years ago) link

You've got to aim higher. This will clearly be 2008's "Carlito's Way: Rise to Power".

Sparkle Motion's Rising Force, Tuesday, 25 April 2006 01:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Spock will find out his mother was really a Klingon, and Captain Kirk will disappear halfway through the movie to go find his kidnapped son. After losing & regaining the use of his legs.

VegemiteGrrl (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 02:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, if they've got Terry O'Quinn playing a Klingon, I'm there.

Sparkle Motion's Rising Force, Tuesday, 25 April 2006 02:43 (seventeen years ago) link

this could be good. I miss good star trek (by which I mean, the original series, most of the original cast movies, and most of TNG). I hope they keep the sexing it up to a minimum and get back to the pulpy. Enterprise was a horrible wasted opportunity. I don't envy, though, anyone trying to play a young Shatner or Nimoy; those guys are still like the most charismatic actors around.

kyle (akmonday), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 06:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Agreed, but how much fun would it be to have William Shatner come down and coach you on set? Lots of fun, you have to think.

The problems I foresee:
TV people can't always transfer to films
It could turn into hilarious cameo-athon
It could just, you know, be shite

However, I'll be going to see it.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Tuesday, 25 April 2006 10:28 (seventeen years ago) link

they should get that kid from Freaks & Geeks to play Shatner.

this should be cool, it's nice to see them send nimoy off into retirement. i'd be surprised if they fuck this film up, since star trek's cultural capital is about as low as it can be right now.

(although admittedly you could say they've sent spock off into retirement twice before)

also, considering the age of Quinto , this would def. seem to put the academy ideas out of scope, he's too old. I guess he still looks younger than nimoy did around the first season though. who knows? it would make more sense to set this before the first film but after the series.

now I feel like a 12 year old again!

Russell Crowe -- the new Ricardo Montalban or the new F. Murray Abraham?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 17 September 2007 03:45 (sixteen years ago) link

but it was a decent movie. wouldn't buy it, though.

I would recommend the blu-ray for anyone who has the setup and likes the movie...It looks incredible and has tons of features. There's a little doc on Nimoy playing Spock for presumably the last time that turns out to be fairly moving. The man himself is in tears as he completes his final scene.

not a star trek dude really, but finally saw this and it was AWESOME.

Totally with this. It's not really a proper Star Trek movie even, it just riffs on the mythology. But's it's my favourite of the lot.

bc srsly i got misty at the end of wrath of khan and st iv and v are almost like awesome buddy movies. way more enjoyable imo.

No, just because you don't have to have anything but the most fleeting knowledge of its parent shows and movies to fully enjoy it.

BTW, I'm frightfully middle-class (chap), Saturday, 23 January 2010 03:50 (fourteen years ago) link

it's because the whole movie is set in an alternate timeline!

manichean ramen (latebloomer), Saturday, 23 January 2010 03:57 (fourteen years ago) link

here's the quote from Spock in the film:

"Nero spared my life for one reason: so that i would know his pain. he beamed me here so i could observe his vengeance."

I figure that means that Nero told him, but let's say he didn't; that still doesn't explain why Spock would stay on the planet when he knows where the outpost is.

ok thanks i couldn't remember exact details of the movie!

tehresa, Saturday, 23 January 2010 04:02 (fourteen years ago) link

Basically the Romulans changed everything by going through the black hole and killing off Kirk's dad, so now everything is slightly different.

max, Saturday, 23 January 2010 12:55 (fourteen years ago) link

that's kinda my point....it's not of a piece with the rest of the series, it's just another 'pretty people in peril' JJ Abrams sci-fi soap opera with ST characters and a bunch of fan service references plugged in.

"No, just because you don't have to have anything but the most fleeting knowledge of its parent shows and movies to fully enjoy it."

Cranking Beastie Boys in the kid kirk sequence wasn't enjoyable until I found out upthread that it might be a reference to an obscure tape of Shatner throwing a hissy fit over pronouncing "sabotage" for the animated series.
