Why are there so many Cubans in Kentucky?

All I could find was "Readily available work in metro Louisville's factories and the service industry along with a lower cost of living attracted many Cubans." That sounds like every other state in the two or three regions you could say Kentucky belongs in.

Myanmar and Bhutan are the intriguing ones to me.

^^ Yes! I know it says India but my friend is a teacher in AZ and her class consists almost entirely of kids from Myanmar.

This is an attempt to maximize the most noteworthy restaurant chain (with an emphasis on fast food where possible) associated with each state. Could mean it was founded there. Could mean it's headquartered there. Could mean both. There were some tough calls (click here for more detail on the decision-making process), see if you agree with them. Again, this was done with an eye towards businesses with local resonance but national notoriety.

I drive across North Dakota too often during the summer and always make fun of Space Aliens Grill & Bar, I assumed it was some local 1990s alien fad hangover that stuck around because there's nothing interesting in Fargo. I had no idea there are more than one of them and that anyone would deem it "noteworthy" other than to mock it.

joygoat, Thursday, 29 May 2014 19:09 (nine years ago) link

There's at least one in Minnesota, smartly positioned near a giant outlet mall in Albertville.

And, yes, it seems to exist only to be mocked.

apparently it's a sub shop chain with 13 locations in New Hampshire and 1 in Maine. there's one 10 minutes away from me, but I've never heard of anyone eating there & the name didn't even ring a bell until I GISsed it just now. NH isn't really noteworthy for...things.
