I don't hate this - I found it enjoyable, actually - but it's disappointing to me in the same way most of that Angel Haze album was.

Still confident the album will deliver some firebreathing stuff.

way more confident that the Wayne album will end up good than this tbh. Mostly cuz he's bounced back in the last year or so while Nicki Minaj is doing the usual Nicki Minaj

her last album is clearly better than tha carter IV, that's about all she has

that's crazy. wayne had like 2 years where the spectrum was 'awful' to 'passable' hovering mostly near the former. nicki over the same stretch was 'passable' to 'awesome' hovering mostly near the latter

the x-factor is that wayne's features were often change-the-radio-station bad during that whole period

I would dispute that her last album was better than C4 (or a lot of things) but then my non-Wayne Young Money interest is pretty limited, select Drake/Nicki songs/features aside. actually prefer hearing random Jae Millz/Mack Maine/Euro nevergonnabes spit solid verses on Wayne mixtapes to a lot of their material

There are more Nicki songs I would willingly listen to from the last 2 years than there are Wayne songs I'd do the same with.

Champion off the last one was p cool actually. sorta Moment 4 Life-ish, same producer though so makes sense

well I had heard the song many times and it didn't rilly make an impression, but the video I saw on VH1soul is all moody Nicki, no glam, etc etc.

it's still pretty lol to me that she described pills & potions as sounding "like urgency" before it was released when...there was so much more urgency in those buzz songs she put out beforehand

i like the percussion on this song - as far as sia-style songs go it's better than most. and the video is cute. but yeah obv she can do much better.

yeah this is my final judgment too. so so fun (and idk how it's doing commercially but it sounds like exactly the kind of thing she should be going for to score a ~hit as well) and then it goes on pointlessly for at least a minute more than it should

i think the final minute is the only good part. the rest of the song is really clunky, it's like watching a car with an engine that keeps sputtering out

it's funny to think that Polow Da Don and Da Internz and another producer all worked together to assemble this, the track sounds like something literally anybody could've thought of and executed. whole thing is so boringly on the nose.

completely agreed w/ j0rdan. i like it more than i did initially and it is 'fun' but i think it could have been executed much better.

nicki's verses >>>> beat >>>>>>>> hook >>>>>>>> "oh my god look at her butt" >>>>>>>> bizarro screaming about skinny bitches >>>>>>> nicki cackling >>>>>>>> song not stopping when it needs to. the first two of those are very very good, the next two are eye-rolly but tolerable, the last three are problems. nicki's cackling usually kinda works but it does seem rote here. it doesn't help that she's trumped herself twice within a week of its release (and that a bunch of her tracks this year have been so next-level).

I do feel like she's gonna go the Wayne route and devolve into a bunch of annoying verbal & rhyming tics

Sometimes she reminds me of Chino XL when she gets technical

her rapping-ass rapping has been as strong as it's ever been this year though, notwithstanding the annoyances (minor or major) that will always be around the corner (usually on her most prominent songs) in her career

and yeah occasionally the tics can be overdone but in general i think she balances them well (across her body of work rather than within any given song), many of them are still effective and they're definitely not cause for overall concern
