I did not fit into this poll. If I happen to have it then a lot (every night or a bunch of times on the weekend days) but these days that happens like 3x a year so most weeks it's none.

That might not have made sense.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 13:49 (nine years ago) link

about a bluntworth of an ounce i bought 20 days ago.
at this rate of daily moderate smoking, about a half a week.
also depends on the weed.

dylannn, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:06 (nine years ago) link

missed voting on this, about an 8th, maybe a lil less. i'd say an 8th every ten days is about right.

ian, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 14:37 (nine years ago) link

xp to enbb yea there was definitely a missing option for a lot of us who very rarely smoke but still do occassionally

Remain unconvinced that weed is any good once you hit 30. I diligently try because of the benefits to creativity, abstract thought, and engagement with books, video games, and especially music. 50% of time I just get vaguely confused and hungry. 25% of time I get uncomfortable, anxious, or "feel old" and the remaining 25% actually have the effect I remember from my early twenties.

fields of salmon, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:50 (nine years ago) link

please don't say that. i turn 30 in 8 days.

Mordy, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:52 (nine years ago) link

In 8 days weed turns into Alzheimer's.

fields of salmon, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 21:57 (nine years ago) link

About to turn 40, I buy a half every 9 months or so which works out to maybe half a gram per week. Basically I take one hit before I walk the dog or watch my hour of episodic television every day and I'm good. I never bothered with a medical card cause it was easy enough to find friends of friends in Seattle or Portland which I visit pretty regularly. Shit's cheap and abundant. Stores here in WA hopefully open soon so even that minor hassle will be gone.

I quit for six weeks for the first time in years to see what that was like and realize weed totally eliminates a couple weird anxieties and causes no problems for me; my wife can't wait for me to start again and be less anxious and paranoid.

joygoat, Wednesday, 21 May 2014 23:41 (nine years ago) link

I can attest that, for me, over 40, strong weed has the potential to make for a night of "fuck...my life decisions, what shall I do about them" instead of "wow, 70s Bowie sounds terrific" a lot, but the chance of just soaring with great metal is high. I know a dude in his early 30s who also reports that the last couple times he smoked out, he just ended up in an obsessive-thought loop and it sucked, and he's turned it down since, because those obsessive-thought weed loops are rough when there's actual-life stuff running around in them

Now I Am Become Dracula (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Wednesday, 21 May 2014 23:59 (nine years ago) link

My natural default is those sorts of negative life decision loops, weed seems to break them and make me think "stop wasting your time on that shit, did you ever think about how awesome ____ is? fuck yeah!"

joygoat, Thursday, 22 May 2014 00:07 (nine years ago) link

This has also gotten so much better since legalization as it eliminates that last anxiety related thing - like I can be kind of high, out walking the dog, and just get all chatty with my cop neighbor without the whole "oh shit he knows I'm stoned I'm going to jail thing" and just talk about motorcycles

joygoat, Thursday, 22 May 2014 00:11 (nine years ago) link

yeah for me I think it's about strains, last time I was in Amsterdam I was able to test one against another on successive nights and found one that was just right. when the shit's as strong as it is now it's more important to me to sort of know what I'm getting myself into

Wife and going through 1\4 lately. Might be time for a tolerance break but fuck that, right?

It's just the w33d these days is on some amazing space bud status that looks, smells and taste so amazing. A lot of times I'm already high as shit but i still want to make love to the sweet smoke

(•̪●) (carne asada), Thursday, 22 May 2014 01:07 (nine years ago) link

I can't smoke whatever quantity I buy fast enough that it doesn't become a nasty, dry, skaggy mess of stems and coughing. How can I make weed not turn to shit? I have tried keeping it in a ziplock inside a sealed mason jar.

fields of salmon, Thursday, 22 May 2014 01:47 (nine years ago) link

it should never go bad - it just get more dry (which theoretically makes it easier to burn surface space and smoke better i've heard). but you may want to sift out the stems.

Mordy, Thursday, 22 May 2014 02:01 (nine years ago) link

also if you're using a pipe, it could be that it has become too finely ground from drying out and you're inhaling some through the hole - which could account for some of the coughing. if that's the case i highly recommend upgrading to a vaporizer. there are some amazing portable ones out there.

48 y.o. here. I have similar issues with "gah, my life decisions suck" loops so tolerance breaks are a must.

obv my strong anti-w33d thing here is partly an act (right?), but really it's never done much of anything for me. I ruined my throat for a week sucking too hard on my pal's bong (yes that is the noun i mean) about 5 years ago and swore off all but the most occasional hits.

two months pass...

hey any of you guys apply for life insurance?

marcos, Friday, 25 July 2014 19:38 (nine years ago) link

i rarely smoke. last time i did was two months ago in colorado. before that it was 5 years ago, before that probably 7 or 8 years ago. but a friend hooked me up with a quarter a couple weeks ago and i am eager to smoke it.

marcos, Friday, 25 July 2014 19:40 (nine years ago) link

i have a few questions:

1. i had my physical and gave blood/urine - is it okay to smoke weed now? or should i wait to hear whether i was approved? what are the chances of them having to come back and ask for an additional urine/blood sample?
2. if you do smoke weed and have life insurances, what did you tell them about your smoking? if you told them you smoke, did it affect your rate?
3. once you get approved, do you ever have to get tested again?

marcos, Friday, 25 July 2014 19:43 (nine years ago) link

I smoke a couple times a week but way less than any of the options on this poll...?

jaymc, Friday, 25 July 2014 19:47 (nine years ago) link

life ins are typically looking for meth/coke and such. weed doesn't figure into actuarial tables really.

Οὖτις, Friday, 25 July 2014 19:54 (nine years ago) link

I was tested initially years and years ago and saw the results (which is how I know they weren't looking for weed). never tested again.

Οὖτις, Friday, 25 July 2014 19:55 (nine years ago) link

smoking on the beach atm

Mordy, Friday, 25 July 2014 20:04 (nine years ago) link

they told me when I applied for life insurance that if I test positive for weed they'll give me a smoker rate. I laid off for two weeks and took something called sonnes #9 (or #7? Something like that) and it worked

Mordy, Friday, 25 July 2014 20:06 (nine years ago) link

mordy, did you have to fill out a questionnaire asking about weed & other drugs?

yea given how little i smoke and that my last bowl was two months ago, i feel like the test will come out clean. just wondering whether i should hold off on smoking until i'm approved or whether it's cool to just go ahead and smoke now that i already had the physical

marcos, Friday, 25 July 2014 20:11 (nine years ago) link

if they already gave you the test then what is there to worry about?

Οὖτις, Friday, 25 July 2014 20:12 (nine years ago) link

I may have filled a questionnaire but I don't remember

Mordy, Friday, 25 July 2014 20:13 (nine years ago) link

yea i think i'm just being paranoid. e.g. "what if they need another sample" etc etc.

marcos, Friday, 25 July 2014 20:15 (nine years ago) link

you must be high already

two weeks pass...

so it's been really interesting to smoke again! like a way different feeling than when i was in high school and college. it honestly doesn't feel like an escape anymore, it's more like tuning in closer into my life.

does anyone else feel a surge of clarity when they smoke? i feel lately like smoking gives me a view 10 feet above my life, where i'm able to get a meta-picture of everything going on that i am otherwise too busy with work, kids, routines, the daily grind, etc., to ever notice.

i feel like it's been a really healthy thing for me. like i've been procrastinating like fucking crazy at work this whole summer, but i've been too fearful and paralyzed and distracted to do much about it or even think much about it. then i smoked a little pot the other night and i'm hit with this powerful fucking clarity that tells me "MARCOS YOU NEED TO GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, YOU HAVE BEEN PROCRASTINATING LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER AND YOU ARE AT MAJOR RISK FOR FUCKING UP A LOT OF SHIT AT YOUR JOB. YOU ARE ALSO NOT TALKING TO ANYONE ABOUT IT AND YOU ARE FUCKING ISOLATING YOURSELF." over the next couple days afterward i am calling up my best friends and talking to my wife about everything and getting connected and finding support.

i also haven't done yoga in months, and while my body is feeling it i just can't find the time. then i smoke and i'm like "marcos you must do yoga right now, it will be so healthy for you."

smoking has motivated to make this big list of all the things that are stressing me out right now, like....i'm handling all nightime wakeups w/ my son b/c my wife's weaning him, my son is getting early intervention treatment for speech delays, we're trying to have a second child, one of my best friends is moving to california, i'm having this major rift with my sister, i have three major projects at work due at the end of august, i am planning three out-of-town trips over the next couple months, we're interviewing candidates for the director at my job, etc. i was not otherwise putting together this big picture but smoking has helped me be holistically aware of all this. lol it is not the escape i was really looking for! it has more been a reality check!

marcos, Thursday, 14 August 2014 15:31 (nine years ago) link

It sounds like you have a lot going on right now. You know what "they" would say. You're "self-medicating during a time of anxiety and stress. The clarity you feel from the high is actually the marijuana intensifying the anxiety you already feel." Or something like that.

Plausible, I guess. For the sake of argument, why would anyone self-medicate with something that produces these effects? It's far too uncomfortable an experience, at least for this thirtysomething.

fields of salmon, Thursday, 14 August 2014 17:10 (nine years ago) link

your experience has been very much what i would like a return to cannabis to be for me but i am still pretty wary.

"and why would you want to feel that? let me sell you some valium."

difficult listening hour, Friday, 15 August 2014 16:31 (nine years ago) link

yeah, marijuana helps me think about things better sometimes. not always, though, it's a dice roll really. one session it's inner vision. another it's anxiety freak out. another i'm just laughing my ass off. etc. etc. i just finished vaping all mine, so i'm thinking of what to do with the leavins.
