Questions to Montanans re: Ned...

If Burns wins, and he gets indicted via the whole Abramoff thing, does Burns reappoint someone, or is there a special election?

I feel bad for Chafee tonight. Mostly for losing, because he's a real decent guy. But also because Wolf Blitzer called him 'Lincoln Cheney' on two separate occasions.

Anyway, hoping the returns in WA-8 are coming from east to west.. the closer they get to Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland/Juanita, the more promising for Burner.

a poll out last night showed Burner leading early voters by 8 and trailing the rest by 5, which put her in a statistical tie. i figure her voters are more motivated, and while the CW is rain favors the GOP, i think she wins in a nailbiter.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 06:14 (seventeen years ago) link

CNN say VA. votes to be canvassed til Nov.27, *then* (if winner still ahead by only 1%), then they have a recount. So right after that, they show Webb declaring VICTOREE, with still 1% of precincts (18 precincts )still to be counted the first time. But yes, McC.'s ahead by 1400 votes now, and still got most of St.Louis to report

don (dow), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 06:17 (seventeen years ago) link

Testor leading by 53% (shouldn't they be done counting by now? Only a million people in the whole state)

don (dow), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 06:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Testor's not that hot either though, libertarian at best. Huffington's complaining that Obama and others have been already cautioning voters to lower expectations (but the war's not going to be so convenient for anybody)

Hotline lists as "Recount races": CT 02, FL 13, GA 08, IA 02, NM 01, NC 08, PA 06, PA 08, WY AL

and quotes Webb from CNN: "It's getting pretty late. I wanted to say I appreciate what Senator Allen said a few minutes ago. ... I'd also like to say the votes are in and we won"

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 06:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Let's see, a year ago DeLay was still majority leader, Cunningham, Ney, Weldon and Foley were all in the House...satisfying, this.

Anyway, let's see what assholes and fools have now been elected among the winners. It'll be a long two years but not uninteresting ones.

I want to congratulate all of our Democratic candidates who ran strong campaigns, worked hard, and offered the American people a clear choice and a strong vision for a new direction based on the priorities of the American people. The American voters also sent a message to Democrats that if we show up, work hard and ask for their vote, we can win in any part of the country. I also want to congratulate Representatives Emanuel and Pelosi, Senators Reid and Schumer, DGA Chair Governor Bill Richardson and DLCC Chair Joan Fitz-Gerald, Colorado State Senate President, for their hard work. Our work doesn't end tonight; it begins tomorrow as we put forward an agenda that puts the American people first.
