ok, so I'm Not Waiting is the first song from my ballot to actually place. collects into a modest frenzy before i've had a chance to get over the hypnotics of the opening guitar line.

charlie h, Friday, 25 April 2014 15:26 (ten years ago) link

"Heart Factory" first song on mine to place. Is it too early for a TOO LOW ? Always stood out as a DMO highlight for me.

DMO is all highlights

The guitar in "Pompeii" is some of my favorite S-K playing from their whole run.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 25 April 2014 15:48 (ten years ago) link

I like how more people put lie in their top 20 than bottom 5, but the relative lack of worst ballots means we get to go "omg why u not like that one ilx??"

big, big fan of Was It A Lie?. manages to sound fidgety, languid and tender all at the same time.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 25 April 2014 16:08 (ten years ago) link

I didn't even bother re-listening to The Woods before voting, because it was plenty easy to fill my ballot with 20 tracks I knew I already liked. This list could be a useful guide, but I'm wary still.

Hah! I randomly had "Heart Factory" pop into my head this morning! PRESCIENCE. Even the poppier cuts on Dig Me Out are heavy rocks.

LOWER

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Friday, 25 April 2014 16:27 (ten years ago) link

Since hot rock was my #1, I'll go ahead and call "too low" on that one

good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Friday, 25 April 2014 16:30 (ten years ago) link

Though I guess I take some comfort in my points guaranteeing it a place in the top 50

good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Friday, 25 April 2014 16:33 (ten years ago) link

i'll second 'hot rock' as too low, song was kinda devastating to me at the time

balls, Friday, 25 April 2014 16:43 (ten years ago) link

WMIY ws my #5 or so, so I prob gave it a leg up

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Friday, 25 April 2014 16:44 (ten years ago) link

@grisso I voted hot rock at #1 but it isn't listed as receiving any #1 votes above. Is that a typo? Sorry to be so anal, just want to make sure justice is served on behalf of that heartbreaking masterpiece.

good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Friday, 25 April 2014 17:24 (ten years ago) link

It's a typo.

I've got this one, and then I've gotta go do some crimes errands. Hopefully I'll be back for a few more later this afternoon.

Man, Janet is raging on that live clip.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 25 April 2014 18:40 (ten years ago) link

great images for these, <3 the one for rollercoaster.

three of mine have placed (one song, pompeii, god is a #), all three of which i was like "do other people like these enough to put them in their Top 20?" i'm totally psyched to see them here and with so many votes!

reddening, Friday, 25 April 2014 20:17 (ten years ago) link

"one song for you" was the first s-k track i ever heard, it's such an A+ example of their characteristic interplay that my mind was instantly blown.

reddening, Friday, 25 April 2014 20:22 (ten years ago) link

i was the #1 voter for "God Is A Number" :)

^^So glad this one made it. Had it at #9 on my ballot, the last several voters put it on the list. One of the best car songs of the last 20 years.

Damnit Janet Weiss & The Riot Grrriel (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 25 April 2014 22:06 (ten years ago) link

That'll be it for today. Do we want the rollout to continue over the weekend?

Damnit Janet Weiss & The Riot Grrriel (C. Grisso/McCain), Friday, 25 April 2014 22:07 (ten years ago) link

xp YESS! "Not What You Want" crept up on me for the poll because it kind of gets lost in the second-half murk Dig Me Out. Their sub-2:00 songs are almost all classic.

Call the Doctorb, the B is for Brownstein (Leee), Friday, 25 April 2014 22:09 (ten years ago) link

Leave You Behind was in my top 10, that's the song I dig out AHOTBO for more than any other. And Not What You Want was a last-minute sub for me, I deleted something else to make room for it. "You think you wanna watch/ I think you better not..."

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Friday, 25 April 2014 22:43 (ten years ago) link

Leave You Behind is way too low

voodoo chili, Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:24 (ten years ago) link

Agree that Leave You Behind is way too low. It was my number three. Beautiful song.

Kitchen Person, Saturday, 26 April 2014 01:47 (ten years ago) link

I feel like maybe "Good Things" siphoned off the votes "Leave You Behind" would receive. I love both of those songs, and feel like they're two sides of the same coin.

good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Saturday, 26 April 2014 03:51 (ten years ago) link

I guess I mean they feel like two versions of the same song, but written at different times in life and/or in the specific trajectory of this band. Either way, I love them both. Someone smart said it in the other thread: Sleater-Kinney writes incredible break-up songs.

good and relaxing like akon dont matter (intheblanks), Saturday, 26 April 2014 03:53 (ten years ago) link

aw fuck totally forgot to vote for "leave you behind," great song

Simon H., Saturday, 26 April 2014 04:23 (ten years ago) link

didn't vote for either "leave you behind" or "good things" and went riff-heavy on my ballot. listening to them again they're great, so i'm not sure if i made the right choice. but on the other hand i just don't connect with their slower stuff anymore, tho at one point i know i must have. rollercoaster is great and i regret not voting for that as well. i never did find the right way to connect with the woods, though there were a few standouts for me -- probably i should pay more attention to it.

anyway, my main point is just to double check i listened to glass tambourine again and its still dire.
