nik cohn sort of invented this thread in 1969:
In my own life, the Monotones have meant more in one line of "Book of Love" than Dylan did in the whole of [/i]Blonde on Blonde[/i].

It's not that Radiohead is no good, just that "Surfin' Bird" is better.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 15 April 2014 21:57 (ten years ago) link
I can vividly remember the first time I ever heard Surfin' Bird. I think it was on a cartoon or something. At any rate, it freaked me the fuck out, I was dancing uncontrollably, and I recall writing down the lyrics cos I just HAD to remember how thing song went.

Honestly, the results were much closer than I imagined when I clicked on the thread. I didn't vote obviously, but The Trashmen have the advantage in almost any contest.

Look, as soon as Thom Yorke writes a song as good as fucking “Mony Mony”, give us a fucking shout.

I mean, come on, I like Radiohead fine, but it's still "Surfin' Bird." And the Trashmen never erased the internet.

Radiohead is awesome. But, c'mon: Surfin' Bird.

Did Radiohead ever cover 'Surfin' Bird'? Seems in their wheelhouse.

I had to spend a few weeks last summer with an obnoxious young Family Guy fan who couldn't stop playing Surfin Bird, and I think that might be making me slide towards choosing Radiohead.

Never really heard them but the warning sign is people writing about it. People only write about things that are bad further exacerbating inherent anxiety.
When a record is good "yes mates" is all that can be said, or some convivial variant.
The Surfing Bird record is more efficient, it means someone nearby is preparing to fill you in. Once the blows start raining down the soundtrack changes to one of the Radiohead records. You have to keep your wits about you if you hear any of this music or something that sounds like it might be this music.

there's a local car commercial that is a parody of Surfin' Bird.
are there any car commercial parodies of radiohead? i'm not sure how it would tilt things but it seems like important background info

I was in a Morrisons in Portsmouth recently at 7am, wandering the aisles aimlessly, and “Karma Police” came on the store’s radio. I suddenly understood ILM.
