HANNIBAL on NBC seems amazing and therefore deserves it's own thread!

Oh yeah still the best series right now.

Seeing Beverly like that was xtremely distressing (>_<) I was a bit annoyed with the last act because we know from the first ep that he is not in genuine peril.

has there been any hint of their plans post-capture-wise, if it comes to that? i think one of the hardest things for them to do would be to put hannibal in the asylum for a season, since that would go against basically their whole setup and force them to make it all ~~~psychological~~~ (plus put them pretty close to being back in the book/film territory). lesser shows in that circumstance basically just break the baddie out as soon as possible.

I hope I am wrong but I think this will get pumped for the likes of Believe to survive, that is depressing.

I hope NBC will keep this around for prestige purposes (it's quite critically acclaimed now, I think), like how Geffen kept Sonic Youth signed despite them not selling shit compared to their label peers. Hannibal is the Sonic Youth of network TV.

Apparently the Euro co-financing helps it out, too.

Hannibal would have been a goner last year - but it was saved because its almost entirely paid for by its international co-production status, with NBC having very little financial risk (if any) involved. That, capped off by the glowing reviews, could (and hopefully will) once more bring Dr. Lecter back. If NBC does cancel it, there's also hope that another outlet picks it up, which was in the cards last year when the show was in the same precarious situation.

I'm not so hot on this season so far. It's insanely beautiful and the score is amazing, but I'm less and less involved in the narrative. The turn with Will this week was dispiriting.

I'm way more into the show this season, now that they've put the overarching plot at the forefront and put the serial killer of the week stuff as support.

don't like how they've kept this chesapeake ripper thing going so long and we still have no idea who it is -- hope the series doesn't founder because the audience gets tired of not knowing.

they already suggested will is the ripper, and now they seem to be saying maybe he isn't. pulling the same twist twice with hannibal seems like it would be lazy writing imho

also mads is a fan favorite, it would really break a lot of hearts :-(

canonically speaking hannibal is known as the chesapeake ripper tho. i mean spoiler alert i guess but

like in red dragon whatever will graham's level of public acknowledgement is attained by having caught 'hannibal the cannibal' also known as 'the chesapeake ripper'

um clay otm - i think the show is pretty obvious with the fact that Hannibal is the Chesapeake Ripper? Although he's usually seen committing copycat kills (Garrett Jacob Hobbs, the mural artist, etc) for his own purposes (to frame Will, his own amusement, testing a hypothesis etc.).

xpost sigh. Hannibal killed that one girl (whose brother Abigail killed) as a 'copycat' murder of Garrett Jacob Hobbs, to help Will solve the case. that's what i meant by copycat kill.

And he killed the mural artist, in the style of the mural artist... but left enough of his own mark (taking the organs) for Beverly to figure that this was the work of the Chesapeake Ripper - the guy who steals vital organs from his victims as trophies.
