A little POO! (in honor of Keiko) --> "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" [Blue Monday Remix] - That one's a classic. Dud: Didn't she do that "brand new dance" the "Locomotion" ... ? I could do without that song.

one year passes...
I just picked up Light Years today and I'm really digging it. Of course every time I go to buy a Kylie Minogue CD I feel like I have to compensate in some way, so I also grabbed Ace of Spades.

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 31 May 2004 05:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah, me too. I always pack a Kylie CD in with something credible, so people don't look down on me.

Pack Yr Romantic Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 31 May 2004 05:37 (nineteen years ago) link

Oh, and to prove I'm not taking the piss, Light Years is fantastic. Body Language sounds awful initially, but on repeated listening it really improves.

Pack Yr Romantic Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 31 May 2004 05:40 (nineteen years ago) link

I've been looking for this for awhile, and I find myself unconsciously shifting slightly to the left if people come near to look as if I'm scoping out what Ministry has to offer.

agree on that last point too.

I'm really enjoying body language right now.
It's weird to me that all you pop crazy daftpunkbasementjaxxmissyelliott loving types don't cotton to Kylie.
Same thing, isn't it?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:05 (nineteen years ago) link

dude I love Kylie, I've got her last four CDs.

Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:10 (nineteen years ago) link

I dig it; upthread there's a lot of venom being spewed about her corporate plasticity.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:13 (nineteen years ago) link

I like Fever enough to say classic without having heard much other stuff.
I like the "Slow" single, too.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:17 (nineteen years ago) link

Impossible Princess, Light Years, Fever, Body Language....all excellent.

Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:18 (nineteen years ago) link

Was Slow nominated for ILM best single? If not shoulda coulda woulda.

It's weird to me that all you pop crazy daftpunkbasementjaxxmissyelliott loving types don't cotton to Kylie.

To tell you the truth I put on Fever a ot more than say, Rooty or Under Construction.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:22 (nineteen years ago) link

"a lot more"

AaronHz (AaronHz), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:22 (nineteen years ago) link

she was probably sort of a dud when this thread got started, but she's not anymore. fever is pretty damned perfect, though i listen to "love at first sight" a lot more than "can't get you out of my head" (which i still like).

J.D. (Justyn Dillingham), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:28 (nineteen years ago) link

I like Kylie's rapping on "Secret".

Gear! (Gear!), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:35 (nineteen years ago) link

Body Language is perversely addictive. I hate enjoying it but I can't help myself.

Fever is inconsistent. Light Years is all bliss, except that horrid ballad thing in the middle. You skip that obv.

Sexual Air Supply (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 22 August 2004 06:52 (nineteen years ago) link

Has KM gone out of style, in a sense?

I mean, is her explosive commercial success of 2 years ago now eclipsed?

I like the "Slow" single, too.
-- AaronHz, August 22nd

I finally downloaded it yesterday and I'm obsessed with it now.
It's even better than I remembered - that synth part, that bassline, the whispered backing vocals in the chorus...holy shit, it's the best song ever.

It's hard to kill a horse with a flute (AaronHz), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 15:13 (nineteen years ago) link

The new song is quite, quite lovely, if a little short.

Any thoughts on 'Ultimate Kylie'? Mine are that the first disc is best used as a frisbee, but that the second is really pretty great. I'm surprised by how many of these I like. I can even cope with the Robbie duet and 'Spinning Around' in retrospect.

the FUCKERS have fucked around with the chronology of YET ANOTHER best-of! IT MAKES ME SO MAD WHEN LABELS DO THAT.

Otherwise, quite good.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 15:36 (nineteen years ago) link

They haven't with the DVD.

The only Kylie thing I bought was "Some kind of bliss" the nice 7" single. It's not on this.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 15:40 (nineteen years ago) link

The title not being AKA Charlene is a Popinjustice

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 15:54 (nineteen years ago) link

I don't remember that single...must have been during my Kylie Denial years - when did it come out?

I am thinking 'I believe in you' might be my favourite single of the year. This is odd, really.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 15:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Her best singles were undoubtably I Wouldn't Change A Thing and her cover of Chairmen of the Board's Give Me Just A Little More Time, which I prefer to the original. of her recent stuff I like the one with the synth bit which sounds like Thieves Like Us which has several Kylies walking down a French street in the video. Can't remember the title, I'm having a "senior moment", sorry!

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:15 (nineteen years ago) link

'Come Into My World', which is alright.

B.A.R.M.S. (Barima), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:23 (nineteen years ago) link

"I Believe In You" is like the singles off Body Language but even better. My favourite Kylie is sadly v obvious, "Confide In Me".

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 1 December 2004 16:24 (nineteen years ago) link

Yeah I love "I Believe In You" - it reminds me of Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle's "Your Love"!

Her vocals sound great on it, and it's got that icy siren quality that made Fever so brilliant.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 2 December 2004 00:34 (nineteen years ago) link

I like just about everything she's done except the "Loco-motion."

Have you all heard 'Made Of Glass' - a Xenomania production that Kylie recorded but decided against making an A-side and has thus been passed to Rachel Stevens instead? It's leaked and is really good! I think it might suit RS better though.

'Made of Glass' is fantastic! Although I second the opinion that Kylie's vocals aren't that great. Does anybody know if it will still be included in the forthcoming Rachel Stevens album?

daavid (daavid), Thursday, 3 March 2005 05:52 (nineteen years ago) link

'I Believe In You' is killing me. It reminds me (lyrically) so much of some early/mid 90s minor hit with similar lyrics. So similar in fact, I could swear Kylie lifted them wholesale, especially 'I don't believe I'd love somebody / just to pass the time'. I think it was some industrialish thing with monotone vocals. I initially thought male vocals, but the more I listen to 'I Believe In You' the more my memory of the song that's torturing me warps to resemble Kylie.

minolta (minolta), Thursday, 3 March 2005 09:07 (nineteen years ago) link

'Made In Glass' is the b-side to next Kylie single (Giving You Up) so unfortunately it seems a bit improbable that Rachel's people will want/get it now.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Thursday, 3 March 2005 09:21 (nineteen years ago) link

anyone heard the new remixes of Giving you up ?

alter ego and riton .. i am somewhat excited. especially as the normal version is just soooooo .. good.

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:52 (nineteen years ago) link

'Made of Glass' makes me think of a Moroderized Altered Images. It would be much better if Clare Grogan sang it.

I wonder if Tom still stands by this:

The recent return-to-pop stuff has been weak, on a level with Geri and Emma Bunton, not even as good as Louise's comeback singles.

Or has Kylie listened to Tom's criticisms and returned with Can't Get You Out Of My Head, Come Into My World, Slow, I Believe In You, Lovin' You, Made Of Glass, etc?

Well done, Tom. GYBE never listened though, did they?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 4 March 2005 03:16 (nineteen years ago) link

As to the alter Ego and Riton remixes, well, depends what you want from a remix. If you want a bleepy, bloopy track which has little to do with the original song apart from the occasional vocal line, go for the Riton Re Rub. If, however, you want the song played over a Daft Punk Discovery-era album track with added gay-disco fills and handclaps, go for the Alter ego.

I'll take the latter. Till the Almighty.

The most pop act thread has made me speak up to say that Light Years may be the gayest thing i've ever heard. if there is a gayer album, please inform me because i will have to download pronto.

title track is one of my fave Kylie tracks ever at this point, just sublime stuff imo. the rest of the album is less unpredictable, but still stellar. i imagine this is going to be her biggest US album since Fever, riding the Padam Padam wave, and bolstered by the Vegas residency.
