i got 'the godfather' trilogy box in sainsburys for £15.

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:14 (thirteen years ago) link

Cor!

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:29 (thirteen years ago) link

I borrowed that Twin Peaks set off someone in anticipation of purchasing a DVD player and now I finally have a DVD player so I went to watch it and in the intervening time the trays have come loose!

What am I to DO? It'll look like I've abused the lend something chronic.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:50 (thirteen years ago) link

You can hardly be blamed, Tim. It is obvioulsy poorly designed packaging. Not that this will get you off the hook, mind.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:53 (thirteen years ago) link

I think i'll have to take a trip to Cockburn or Rose St for a gander at the bargains.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 08:56 (thirteen years ago) link

my sopranos trays are a bit rub like that. would a dollop of glue do it?

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Why don't you give it a go, and let me know how well it works before I return these to the lawyer who owns them?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:15 (thirteen years ago) link

er, ok.

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 09:19 (thirteen years ago) link

I have given it a go with a previous digipak tray disaster. Glue was no help at all, because the surface area of the tray that actually makes contact with the cardboard is very small and fiddly. All that happens is your tray gets semgged up with glue.

Of course, I might just be a big spazz.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 10:01 (thirteen years ago) link

i think i would fail in a similar way.

Theorry Henry (Enrique), Tuesday, 25 October 2005 10:07 (thirteen years ago) link

four months pass...
Justin Timberlake's Justified, Outkast's Speakerboxx/Love Below and R Kelly's Happy People... all £3 at the Cockburn Street Fopp in Edinburgh... (!) I've been considering stocking up to give to people for gifts but none of my friends like anything except the Outkast.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:39 (thirteen years ago) link

There's a new FOPP in Camden too

Rotatey Diskers With Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:41 (thirteen years ago) link

whereabouts?

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:45 (thirteen years ago) link

not that i'd, you know, go to camden.

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Just by the lock, next to Vinyl Exchange.

Neil Stewart (Neil Stewart), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:48 (thirteen years ago) link

I think it's bigger than the one in town

Rotatey Diskers With Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:49 (thirteen years ago) link

ooh, i might go to camden!

The Man Without Shadow (Enrique), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:50 (thirteen years ago) link

A Brighton branch opened up a couple of months back too, which I can see putting the squeeze on a few of the smaller record stores in town. And on my bank account too, I shouldn't wonder.

NickB (NickB), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 11:54 (thirteen years ago) link

I might go to Fopp later on.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 12:09 (thirteen years ago) link

The Virgin Megastore in Reading has closed.

It was 100 metres from Fopp.

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 12:31 (thirteen years ago) link

The New Camden Fopp is on my walk to the bus stop in the evening, thus I have spent over £50 there in the last 2 days (on twee DVDs though, so Vinyl Exchange can relax).

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 13:07 (thirteen years ago) link

Hopefully the appalling branch of Virgin in Camden will close now too.

Matt #2 (Matt #2), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 13:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I want them to open one in Dalston.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 13:11 (thirteen years ago) link

(on tweenies DVDs though, so Vinyl Exchange can relax)

Yeah, I saw they had some for £3 the other week, but Fifi and the Flowertots is still full price.

Can you confirm that it is bigger than the Shaftesbury Avenue branch, Jerry?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:18 (thirteen years ago) link

It's on three floors, but roughly the same size I would say.

For the record, the DVDs were the no less twee: 'Kiki's delivery service', 'Laputa' and the Boosh box.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 14:25 (thirteen years ago) link

new one in Chiswick High Road too - much needed I should add

pretty small and cramped tho

zebedee (zebedee), Tuesday, 28 February 2006 20:03 (thirteen years ago) link

...but better than the spacious Music Zone that took over from MVC down the road.

avery keen-gardner (avery keen-gardner), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 02:25 (thirteen years ago) link

I will always love MVC, for selling me the Faust box for £2 (twice), and the Nirvana 'lights out' one for £20.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 09:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Maidenhead MVC has also become Music Zone. They have the second Werner Herzog box for a tenner. Hmm.

I got a film called Tarnation from Fopp for a fiver. I am quite pleased with my purchase.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 10:44 (thirteen years ago) link

I work just down the road from teh Chiswick Fopp! The Music Zone is shite. I got a load of bargains from MVC before it closed though.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Wednesday, 1 March 2006 13:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Okay: so what's on your fopping shopping list at the moment?

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 9 March 2006 10:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Plenty. But nothing I can actually purchase at Fopp.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 9 March 2006 10:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Cravings for cheap back-catalogue are a weakness I am often powerless to overcome. That and nowhere else being open round here by the time I finish work.

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 9 March 2006 10:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Currently I have a craving for the Laguna Tunes compilation which I can't even find in Oxford Circus HMV, never mind Fopp.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 9 March 2006 10:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Laguna Tunes - I don't know what that is, but it makes me think of Slim Gaillard ovootie oroonie.

NickB (NickB), Thursday, 9 March 2006 10:53 (thirteen years ago) link

It's this one. Admittedly it is an import-only job and came out six years ago, but the original American version (with vocals!) of "Groovin' With Mr Bloe" in particular I've been after for ages, and this is the only CD wot's got it.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 9 March 2006 10:56 (thirteen years ago) link

ah but "NO INSERTS - JUST CD!" I like to have the sleeve and booklet and things. Thanks anyway...it's the sort of thing which is sometimes apt to turn up unexpectedly in the racks at Reckless for £5.99.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 9 March 2006 11:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I bought Odetta Sings Dylan for a fiver. Money well spent.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Thursday, 9 March 2006 11:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I recently picked up Kevin Rowland's The Wanderer on CD for 50p and still felt I'd been overcharged!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 9 March 2006 11:10 (thirteen years ago) link

taking sides: Camden

2000: Tower & Rhythm Records

Vs

2006: Virgin & Fopp

Cure remasters for £6 a pop. Oh yes. I only got Seventeen Seconds and Faith, but still.

STOP! Time Thief! (kate), Saturday, 1 April 2006 12:33 (thirteen years ago) link

Are those the stingy single-disc versions, or the full-on deluxe jobbies?

kit brash (kit brash), Sunday, 2 April 2006 01:03 (thirteen years ago) link

It can't be,surely.

mark grout (mark grout), Sunday, 2 April 2006 17:21 (thirteen years ago) link

It's the stingy single-disc versions in the Dundee store, don't know about anywhere else.

Michael Lambert (Michael Lambert), Sunday, 2 April 2006 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

hardly worth the effort, then

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 3 April 2006 04:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Monday, 3 April 2006 08:45 (thirteen years ago) link
