saw my first whole ep last night. one actual laugh in half an hour - cheese for liars - although i appreciated rigsby. don't understand why it isn't working for me - i think i want him to be far more surreal.

See, this is what happens. I watch a bit of a comedy show, think it's quite good, Dawn comes in, and immediately the comedy becomes rubbish (the chat to a drunk on your telephone), and it is ENDED!

This show would be better with a laugh track.
This utterly blows my mind (there was some thread about laugh tracks that got really heated - it might have been Sandbox era - but I still can't believe anyone would want a laugh track on anything, under any circumstances.

> Verging on the classic last night, for Leonard Rossiter alone.
why was he doing ralph fiennes in the style of leonard rossiter?
michael 6 is very one dimensional. didn't enjoy much of last night's at all apart from the cheese and the ice cubes with artificial sweetener.

That Godfather: The Musical sketch reminded me of the guy in Rushmore's production of the stage version of Serpico!

just because the magazine's about paranoia doesn't mean you shouldn't be out to get it?
I have never seen this show

His Robert De Niro face is fantastic. I saw another clip where he did about 40 "impressions" of made up characters but cannae find it now.

i didn't hate this show. tbh i usually think this guy sucks in everything i've seen him in, so to actually like some of what he did was refreshing

His own show was, unfortunately, not really a showcase of his best work. I think they took too much advantage of his gift for impersonation. Which is kind of undeniable. But he has a really funny, surreal sense of humor (e.g. Look Around You) that wasn't as present in the show as it should've been. I think I just like him. His Twitter is one of my faves.

He and Robert Popper are going to be working with Tim Heidecker & Eric Wareheim soon. Expect to see that absurdist streak fleshed out.

The moment I realised what he was actually doing was the moment the whole thing went stratospheric.
So wtf is he doing with that KFC thing? I don't think I properly get it and I'm still crying.

would 'things that just have to be peter serafinowicz sketches' be the closest UK equivalent to 'things that just have to be tim and eric sketches'? some of the forgotten 70s and 80s tv series that are broadcast on Talking Pictures TV look so much like they must be extremely dexterous spoofs
20:30 BOGNOR (1981) Premiere: UNBECOMING HABITS - BATTY TOM #DavidHorovitch #JoannaMcCallum Bognor survives an attempt on his life and strikes a friendship with monk Xavier. With #PatrickTroughton pic.twitter.com/BNYFk2qD59— Talking Pictures TV (@TalkingPicsTV) July 31, 2020
also the adverts they show for DVD or CD compilations that list a dozen or so beloved entertainers of yesteryear, about 50% of whom are obviously made up

I've never heard of Bognor or indeed a lot of the TV stuff they broadcast, making me think a lot of them were only shown on regional TV.
